When your gear gets wet, you hang it on the outside of your pack, plus who doesn't line their pack with trash bags at the start of a hike that includes a river crossing?
Exactly, he was taking some serious and unnecessary risks there... Also instead of let the clothes freeze overnight he'd better wear some of them while walking to dry some stuff... Respect for his toughness though, he's pretty badass imo
You can hang it on the outside of your pack to keep it from wetting other stuff but it will freeze if it is below freezing and it won't get any drier(unless you have good sun). I prefer to isolate it within a dry bag inside my pack and keep it from freezing then dry it. This is also preferable if like Shiey you are walking through precipitation. The best option in winter is to wear it or sleep with it. If you have a warm enough sleeping bag(and this is key in winter), and I do this with a down bag(more susceptible to moisture), you can put very wet things in there and you will almost fully dry it by morning. Even when my bag feels very damp or wet at night by morning it is fully puffed out and if damp it is just on the surface.
An interesting detail is how last time shiey went to the zone, he stated that he had to show his face on the bus to not cause suspicion. Though this time around however with the corona virus out there, it's not an issue to look shady :P
Some people have made some great comments in regards to survivability. I definitely agree you should really invest in waterproofing your bad or at least necessary clothing. I'd also invest, especially for a winter journey, a set of warmers, for your neck, hands, and feet. Maybe also an electric hand warmer of some sort or thermal space blanket. One thing I also would have done is wait until the next day during daylight to cross the river. I understand if you're on a time constraint but if not then that area isn't near radioactive enough to worry about. I'd just find a really really out of the way spot to lay down and conversate, eat, and get some early sleep.
shey, please buy a back pack cover. Tuck your shoes on she side of your backpack to make it wider, then put your backpack on water, it'll float and stay dry. I use tarp and rope, but its more time consuming so I assume its not fit for you. Use trash bags to waterproof stuff or one big clear plastic bag inside your backpack. Drybags are stiff, heavy and take too much space. I also highly suggest to use good quality foot talc that is sold at pharmacies. Prevents blisters, feet and shoes stay dry much longer.
20:41 the final date is two days after the Chernobyl disaster which means they were exposed to the radiation for two days before they left. Well done Soviet government keeping it a secret.

(3) "Exclusion Zone": No entry is permitted under any circumstances unless from an authorized government agency. An illustration of a man with a red circle and diagonal slash.
I'm so glad he records like this. Last building i got into (10 years ago) was a 13 story refrigerated warehouse in Louisville, KY, USA, no windows for 12 floors and an open elevator shaft through the whole thing. It was the most treacherous location I've ever been to but equally exciting. I miss the shenanigans and am so grateful for the adventures shared with us.
It looks like he has a Huawei P smart 2019 (I could be wrong, the P smart has a thicker bottom bezel) , me being a Huawei enthusiast I know that Huawei has their own step counter app called Huawei Health (it even adds the step count to your lock screen if you have a Huawei) so ya, I don't know if he uses it but if he did then it'd be awesome to see EDIT: 2 possibilities now!!! He either has the P smart or he has the P30 lite. They both look identical but the P30 lite has super great hardware for the time being
I get so much creative inspiration from your videos! There’s so much subtle story- telling. The people you surround yourself with are all such interesting characters! Found your channel last weekend sick on my couch... literally been watching Every video start to finish.
Great video you made Shley, I have heard so much about Ukraine and the city of Pripyat, near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant which explode in 1986, its a pity to see so many huge buildings, apartments and playground now in decay and totally abondaned...everything left behind since the outbreak of that nuclear poison radiation in that Red wood zone. Very sad to watch this all, but my compliments to show us all those memorable places, moments which will never come back...... forever !!
So, let me get this straight: he comes here for the second time within one year, knows he has to cross a river in the winter and still is so unprepared that he doesn't even have a waterproof backpack and/or sleeping bag? C'mon man, that is backpacking knowledge 101... Still, nice video! I bet you had fun doing that trip again.
Great video! Get yourself a dry bag/rucksack liner, then everything in your rucksack stays dry even if it goes in the water. Some are better than others, I’ve found Ortlieb the most robust.
my guy never asks for subs, likes or shares. does illegal stuff and dosent care for cops and has a life that ordinary people wish they had. dude's a freaking legend within us humans
hindsight is 20/20 and i learned the hard way as well.. any time you know your crossing water bring a couple garbage bags to through your stuff in... i too crossed a river at night near the canadian border in NY, almost ruined my entire trip. our issue was we crossed at the same point during the day and 10 hours later its was about 3 foot higher from snow/ice thaw and a bit of rain up river. we were actually quite lucky as we heard some the bridges in the area were washed away.
One of the best tips I learned from my year long hiking journeys was to use a heavy duty “contractor” type trash bag as a liner for your backpack on the inside. This keeps everything dry no matter what. You can also use it to empty out your backpack quickly when needed.
Great footage...thanks once again for taking us along on yet another epic journey. Can't imagine that river...I've been in some cold water here in Canada, but I didn't have to get out and walk for hours in wet clothes. Respect

A tip from the military for Shiey - Put a thick trashbag in your backpack and then put everything inside it. your english has improved so much over the past 2 years
15:02 When Shiey uploads a new video
I saw chernobyl in the title, and heard a 'friend from england' and i got excited that a certain bald and bankrupt lad would make an appearance
that graveyard they were at looks like the one bald went to with that old man who lives alone out there
An old soviet trip to Chernobyl😂😂😂
I was thinking in his first journey one of those cars was "Bald and Bankrupt"😀😀
@@zindca Bald went to the Belarusian part of Chernobyl though
he'd say soviet every 5 seconds and get everyone caught lol
Can't wait to watch this later!
"can't wait to save this in my watch later list and watch it next month."
Can't wait to erase this asap as the Kremlin has deemed it highly sensitive & a threat to National security.
Lol I'm watching right now just like I said 😂 and yeah before anything happens to it
@@karakayser6609 A lady of your word! :)
@@cussyplays yes! I just cant watch while I'm working ya know lol
shey, please buy a back pack cover.
* attempts to resist the urge to watch, to wait for full-length video *
* fails *
I was about to do my homework but...
*sometimes you have to do it later*
Yea, I should ne studying for my finals, but I guess I gotta do that later
Yep. 21 minutes and 27 seconds later 😉
20:41 the final date is two days after the Chernobyl disaster which means they were exposed to the radiation for two days before they left. Well done Soviet government keeping it a secret.
It's because of videos like this UA-cam was created. Having said that, respect mate for editing and putting subtitles throughout the whole video for the rest of us to enjoy! Thank you :)
(1) "Prohibited Zone": You are not allowed to cross into, or remove objects from, this area. Usually a circle with a diagonal slash indication. (2) "Danger Zone": Entry into this area may cause death or injury. There are significant hazards to life from various sources. Skull and cross bones illustration.
I want to see this guy's step counter
It looks like he has a Huawei P smart 2019 (I could be wrong, the P smart has a thicker bottom bezel) , me being a Huawei enthusiast I know that Huawei has their own step counter app called Huawei Health (it even adds the step count to your lock screen if you have a Huawei) so ya, I don't know if he uses it but if he did then it'd be awesome to see
EDIT: 2 possibilities now!!!
Very sad to watch this all, but my compliments to show us all those memorable places, moments which will never come back...... forever !!
"we're going to do the routine"
Going to Chernobyl is already routine?
love how he calls Anton "our boy"
Ayyy! Season 2 in the exclusion zone!
Damn bet there's some serious asbestos in that attic 😭
Great video! Get yourself a dry bag/rucksack liner, then everything in your rucksack stays dry even if it goes in the water. Some are better than others, I’ve found Ortlieb the most robust.
my guy never asks for subs, likes or shares. does illegal stuff and dosent care for cops and has a life that ordinary people wish they had. dude's a freaking legend within us humans
Anton is the 🐐 good to see you guys collaborating
Being in Chernobyl when Coronavirus is active is just perfect.
Best place to survive.
hindsight is 20/20 and i learned the hard way as well.. any time you know your crossing water bring a couple garbage bags to through your stuff in... i too crossed a river at night near the canadian border in NY, almost ruined my entire trip. our issue was we crossed at the same point during the day and 10 hours later its was about 3 foot higher from snow/ice thaw and a bit of rain up river. we were actually quite lucky as we heard some the bridges in the area were washed away.
One of the best tips I learned from my year long hiking journeys was to use a heavy duty “contractor” type trash bag as a liner for your backpack on the inside. This keeps everything dry no matter what. You can also use it to empty out your backpack quickly when needed.
Drying my wet clothes across Chernobyl - part 1
16:12 The best ASMR Ive ever heard!
My mom when I get home from school: How are you? Me: 0:33
3:27 me and the bois in an gta Cutscene
Great footage...thanks once again for taking us along on yet another epic journey. Can't imagine that river...I've been in some cold water here in Canada, but I didn't have to get out and walk for hours in wet clothes. Respect
This guy: "0 hour of sleep for the past 24 hours"
Also this guy: "I'm feeling fantastic"
Loved the first exclusion zone series, didn't think we'd get one so soon after!
16:12 quick reminder to all of you.
Wonder if I can catch radiation through a screen
techincally yes because it,s everywhere but a little of it
If you're using a Display that is based of an cray machines shooting through a Pixel matrix into an xray viewer definetly yes
i wouldn´t go to woods in Chernobyl cuz they are more radioactive than roads
@@michal9888 yea - cause the "roads" were at least somewhat "cleaned" - but in contrast to fukushima where they're de-cont every single square meter back at chernobyl they just declared it lost
@@michal9888 Did you watch the first journey? Most of the places aren't much worse in radiation than probably where you live. If you live in a sandstone area you probably have higher radiation around you all the time anyway ;)
2:13 Shiey's hair looks fire! as always
That's a bad one about the backpack getting a soaking . . You carried on good though full of the "shiey adventure vibes" ▶️🔁▶️ . . Video was a blast and good to see Anton there + Jack on a mission with ya . . Siempre bien .
6:19 Captain MacMillan taunting Shiey from behind "Oi, Suzy!
Shiey, I think you should watch “Our Planet” Episode 8 on Chernobyl if you haven’t already. It’s amazing to see the wildlife flourishing in the exclusion zone years after human life left the area.
I loved the first Chernobyl series, I already love this series
When packing the backpack it's a good trick to pack all your stuff inside a 200 litre plastic waste bag.
Easy and cheap way to have a waterproof layer inside your backpack.
Cool content, keep it up!
i like that ur completely off ur rocker but still have core values like keeping warm, refuelling and planning.
Was expecting the guy from bald and bankrupt when he said he was meeting up with a mysterious Englishman.
WVURxMan Lool imagine
No cheap girls, no Bald.
Anyone else who was just waiting for him to say that Anton was coming with him?
man i love Anton :D
15:46 this is what every boy's sleepover looks like
I feel like im watching a horror movie where nothing scary happens
finally up to date on the videos again. almost gave me a heart attack when i saw you slip into the water.. man..
Don't die of hypothermia, thanks. ;D
oh word Anton's back, more paranoia incoming when shiey wants to climb
these captions go hard, sitting in detention rn w
Dang bro, your content is RADD☢️☢️
man this stuff makes me feel so nostalgic, 2 years ago I basically took the same path and that bridge you climbed after the river crossing is trolly, my friend fell back trying to run up there, but we did the whole journey when it was dark.
A tip from the military for Shiey - Put a thick trashbag in your backpack and then put everything inside it. Put your water bottles outside of the trash bag so nothing gets wet and put your 2nd pair of shoes and sleeping bag in a seperate bag. 100% safe, waterproof and cheap. Please like so Shiey can see 👌🏽
