is good learning practices
piano lessons from the beginning
I’ve just bought a keyboard. This has been my dream since I was a child but the times and finances could barely afford living. I’ve finally purchased my first keyboard 2 days ago, 26 years of wait. I just couldn’t help myself but to go crazy sounding awful lol. This is my first time having an instrument and very first time playing it. I was searching where to begin with. I cant even follow a single pattern going up and down. This made me thought i’m passed my time to learn piano as it takes years to move both hands in different directions but i don’t want to give up. My brother, this video has given me hope. I’ve heard this at least 10 times now, i still can’t play anything but now, i believe if i stay consistent, i can do it. I can’t afford any piano tutors. Sometimes, we might not realize how we are adding values into people life, and your video is one example of it. Looking forward to learn more from you. God bless you, keep doing the good work that you’re doing!! Much respect.
Thanks for the feedback that’s nice to hear. Just remember you’re asking your hands and fingers to move and be controlled in ways they’re not used to yet,it’s like learning to walk again. It’ll be wobbly for a while and you’ll fall over but eventually you can run.
@Julian Oostdam Pidal I’m obviously not the creator, however I’m a beginner too and my absolute favourite books have been the Alfred Basic Piano books. They’re amazing and have helped tons. Best of luck!
Hello you ! I just bought a piano yesterday. It just arrived ! I am 28 this year. Now im employed and I able to buy my own 1st piano. Back in the days, just able to see friends using it since child. Hahahha. Now own it, yayy .Still struggling with it hahah. Gonna cheer it and try my best to study and play it flawlessly. Goodluck to both of us ✨✨😄
You will be a great pianist one day, much love
Yea Brother, btw it takes longer to get your fingers moving independently than anybody ever says! In the very beginning, I literally had to use one hand to guide my fingers on the other hand! But within a couple months, no problems - now it's a whole other story. Daily practice works wonders.
Started playing (professional taught) at 8 yrs. Over 40 years now. Believe me, start with counting the music score and properly. Then reading the music score. Practice right hand, then left. Bring them together. Practice daily! Doing scales, triads, is very important too! All the best!
I just went with synesthesia and now that I actually want to learn real piano i can't
@@30k_Challenge_with_0video Do you have the feeling or seeing type of synesthesia? I have the seeing type, for example there is one song that I never found the name of that is forever called "Orange Rectangles" because thats what I saw when I heard the song. With the seeing type, you can try using the colors as a guide. I don't know a lot about the subject, I have produced for several years, but I am also still new at piano and learning myself so I don't know if I have any good advice for you other than we are in the same boat.
(Edit: Were in the same boat, but that doesn't mean you are not capable of learning piano. Use your gifts to your advantage.)
@@gingerisland6877 yeah, I don't think he meant to say synesthesia at all. He could've been referring to synthesia, which is a computer program that helps people learn to play the piano using a visual representation of falling notes on the screen.
Thank you my brother
if u have any additional practical daily habitual advice sir i’ll write it down ty for this comment
Its literally 4 am and I dont even have a piano Edit:Wow so many likes and relatable comments :))))))
Bruh same besides it’s not 4 am
It's 2 am and I got mine this morning

@Julian Grayson Surprisingly easier to learn if you know playing guitar already
@@kspades2530 At least we can learn to pretend we know how to play piano or to do shadow piano 😂
I’m not a beginner, but I get sucked into watching piano and keyboard tutorials all the time. Your generosity, kindness and positive spirit are easily seen in this video! Cheers and continued success.
Thanks Pierre!
@Pierre, Me too! 🤣🤣🤣
Same, I've been watching tutorials and not really perfecting the basics. Now I'm starting from the beginning and taking it slow so I can play like a proper pro.
Nothing wrong with the tutorials just get the basics mastered first!
Starting piano from scratch at 26.
Hoping to be a “master” by 40.
Wish me luck!!
good luck ✨
I believe in u bro u gon do it
Dude same, I'm just a year younger than you. I started 3 days ago, I want to be able to play fantasie impromptu by 35
.. im starting at 51 due to all this covid stuff .. by 61 i be lucky to play a complete song ,if dementia dont catch up to me ..haha
@@user-gd5bj8kj8i very cool, good luck! Just checked that Chopin piece out cuz I was unfamiliar and it’s so beautiful but really complex too so good luck with that as well! As for me, I’m progressing slowly but some of the early stuff I’m learning mostly comes from Super Nintendo games haha
I am 72, already a musician of 60 years but not piano.
I have just bought an electric piano so I can play with phones on at silly hours.
You are young and by heck you know how to teach.
Those chord progressions were good.
Practice all four with both hands?
I did not know all the black notes formed the minor pentatonic. That was great to learn and there is some good improvising to be done with the black notes.
You are a breath of fresh air.
Its all very well people saying " get a teacher".
Some of us cannot afford that...pensioners like me!
I rely on young ones like you to teach me!
You are great.
And thank you.

I'm 14 yrs old and I decided to learn how to play the piano and this helps a lot thank you

Dude I've learned more from this in 30 minutes then I've ever had before I gave up on piano 2 years ago but this has given my confidence a boost
Great to hear, glad it has helped. Hopefully you find other stuff on the channel useful too and good luck with your playing
I am a pianist and a friend of mine asked me to give my opinion on this channel (and others), since she is keen to start piano (at 35). I have to congratulate you. Although this will never replace (obviously) a teacher, you have done a great job, showing patience, perseverance and knowledge. Well done sir!
One question since u are a pianist?
@@akiko_angel5945 weird question
I don't have money to spend on a teacher, how should I learn piano, through simply piano?, this youtube channel?, wich youtube channel?
Please give me advice on what, I should do.
And did your friend get better through this channel?
Thank you and have a great rest of your day,
Wish you all the best.
i had a piano sitting in my room for years. now it's the time to learn how to play it!
I almost never comment but couldnt leave this video without thanking you for doing this for free, ive seen a lot of half content, and clickbait because if you want to learn you paid their expensive curse, you give me hope again that i can at least learn the basics withoyt paying 200 dollars, again, thanks for the video i really aprecciate it, looking forward to see more content for begginers

My grandad died around 10yr ago and he had a keyboard, its been at my mums ever since his death..never been used by anyone since his death..until yesterday by me. Now I have no idea how to play keyboard really, but I was messing around with the keys/tones ect and managed to teach myself bits of "The final countdown, wonderwall, beat it" granted these will be the absolute basic version of the songs..but it's a start...and had no help ,tutorials or anything whatsoever, So I'm now I'm actually thinking of learning everything from scratch. I will add that I used to be a drummer in many bands for 15years, and can play bits on guitar and bass too..and I get people say if you can play guitar you can play piano /keyboard..let me tell you that's not the case with me,looking at a keyboard and trying to play it is complete alien to me.
I’m sure experience in music in general will help you out as you progress, with your sense of rhythm and your ears and musicality. But yes getting familiar with the actual keyboard layout and technique etc will take some getting used to. Practice often and things start to feel a bit more natural after a while! Good luck!
Try playing Van Halen’s song called ‘Jump’. It’s pretty easy and fun.... I’m a new keyboard player from a guitar background. It sounds great using a ‘Synth Sawtooth’ waveform. 😊
Exact same circumstances here, except for being an drummer in a band - but I have played guitar on and off for a good while. My Grandads keyboard is circa 1999 I think but will be a good place to start!
My heart goes out to those watching this without access to a piano. I feel so incredibly lucky to have a keyboard lying around. I hope you all can get that piano you've been wishing for soon ❤
My piano hasn't even arrived yet, but this tutorial is looking promising. Think I'll give it a go. Thank you!
Have fun with your new piano!
I'll put it to you like this, I'm definitely not an expert piano player. I've just messed around most of my life, learned how to play the first part of yankee doodle as a kid, just the one hand. I've never ever played using two hands. It was extremely easy for me when watching the tutorial. I never knew those chords existed like that. Now, I feel like a whole thing for me has been opened up to playing piano, because the black notes, I've never understood.
I have no clue how to read sheet music, other than we learned FACE is on the spaces and EGBDF (Every Good Boy Does Fine) is on the lines from bottom to top. No idea what a quarter note is, what an eighth note is or how to apply those to playing. But this tutorial really opened things up for me.
Mine hasn't arrived either....still watching videos in the hope that I'll be an expert by the delivery date!! haha
@@lozza1874 mine has arrived early today. And I gotta tell you... Be. Patient.
IMO a lot looks easier than it actually is. But practice is the key. I for myself do see progress though already so yeah.. Good lick y'all!
@@eden4949 oh fab! Maybe we should share progress somehow? I've had lessons before and I can play guitar so maybe there's hope for me yet 🙂 happy playing!
I'm so impressed by the delivery style and clarity of objectives in this beginner's tutorial. I'm 66, an absolute novice with no musical experience bar learning the recorder in the 60"s at school, too long ago to even remember the notes etc. A latent yearning to play the piano has been propelled by the promise of attainment I felt when watching your video. Very inspiring, thanks.
Thanks for the feedback, really glad it helped you get going! Good luck 🎹
How have you got on? I’m 66 too. It must be a ‘now or never’ thing,
@@suewilliamson7271 I am 50 and this young man encouraged me to start the piano.
61. Started two days ago. Working on scales, first. 😊 I've given myself 3 years (1,000 hours) to figure it out! (Alexis Matinée Pro keyboard.)
I’ve just started learning piano at age 60 and this is by far the most relatable and easy to follow tutorial I’ve come across. Thank you!
Thank you for these tutorials. After decades of wishing I could learn piano, at 63, I am finally committing myself to learning to play. I should be ready to play Carnegie Hall by the time I am 163, but in the meantime, I hope to develop a modest set of playing skills. Thanks again.
I’m 66 and thinking of starting. How have you got on? Did you continue?

Starting at 40, with my 5 year old daughter. This was very helpful.
“Don’t be afraid to sound bad”
As a beginner violinist I think I’m probably desensitized to that 😬
Thanks for putting these together!
This works like therapy for my old tired brain, I can follow this. My memory is so poor that when I restart this video I get excited because it seems easier every session. I don’t think I’ll play as well as Billy Preston but that’s the way God planned it.
Yes! Music is therapy!
Thanks for making content without the childish thumbnails, super annoying sales pitch youtuber-voice.

I’ve watched a lot of beginners lessons since I’m looking for my very first piano and to kill the wait I was already watching lessons/tutorial, but this is definitely the best so far.
Same!
The best lesson I've found on UA-cam so far. Thank you!!! ❤️
Where have you been all my life? I am a musician, I don't play keyboard but I play guitar, Oboe and Sax but I've never had the patience to learn keys, why? Because all tutorials want me to start at the beginning with scales, I don't care about that. This great information and a lot of teachers could learn from this, I am using this to teach my son who is an impatient learner and needs this to get him playing but then he'll learn his fundamentals afterwards. Not everyone has the patience to learn scales...or even wants to. A good teacher (like you) understands everyone has different goals, some people just want to be able to play a few chords while others need the whole gamut because they want to be a concert pianist, discussing goals and realistic expectations is a really important part of successful learning.
That is a fantastic tutorial, and right at the moment when I started feeling exhausted it proceeded with a crazy improvisation section which relaxed me and unleashed the desire to just dwell and explore the variations of a pentotonic scale. Thank you so much for that
This is great!! I’m a guitarist and just started learning piano. This video was really helpful. Cheers!!
wow dude, this is 1 year+ worth of lessons, excercises and practice! thank you so much!
Great lesson, just wanted to say thank you for posting this!
Thanks for sharing this video. I looked a lot of piano tutorials for Beginners but this seems to ne the best to start. It not only shows the basics but also encourages me to try some improvising. Well done.

I’m your fan already…. I’m learning piano, and your videos are great and easy to understand by beginners…👌🏽❤️
Wow, in this single lesson I accidentaly found out how to play fragments of my favorite songs. Thank you so much, this lesson made me so confident and this just starts sounding nice. You've become officially my piano teacher =)

You’re the best! I’ve been playing for 2 years and finally started performing( in front of people and it’s 😧. Hopefully it gets easier the more I do it. Thanks for sharing this.
Congratulations on 1 million views!! This video was great!! I'm learning piano and this was really helpful 😀
Yo thank you for this. My keyboard will be arriving this week and this has been very helpful. I've been going along your exercises with my air piano in the meantime. Upvote and subscribed!!!
This video was amazing! As someone who has never attempted to learn an instrument before this was incredibly easy to follow and understand.
It took so much brain power to coordinate my hands to move correctly for the chords. But after practicing the progression for even 10 minutes it felt much more natural.
Can’t wait to keep working my way through your videos. Thank you!
This is outstanding. I've been to a number of sites which cover learning piano, but this one actually includes some key foundational and technique principles, which you would normally get from a teacher. It's really important to learn proper technique from the start if you plan do get serious. I made that mistake self-learning guitar and had to "unlearn" a bunch of bad habits. Thanks for posting - I'll be checking out your other videos as well.
Glad it was helpful, good luck learning!
This was an incredible amount of useful information cramped in one video! Amazing and extremely useful!
Really cool video. Straight in there with some stuff that is fun and makes you feel confident right from the off. Cheers fella
Thanks dude! Helps so much
Hey man, just wanna say this is by far the best tutorial I've found for piano online, both in terms of delivery and presentation. Such a shame your channel hasn't been discovered by more people like me (complete beginners!!!) - please don't stop what you're doing, it's so cool that this kind of content is on the public domain for people who can't afford lessons. Thanks! I look forward to improving under your tuition :)
Thanks for the feedback dude, glad it's been helpful for you. Yea it's hard to get videos out to an audience when you're starting out but beginning to see a bit of traction. Like and comments like this really help though so thanks!
I have never thought I'd adapt to soemthing this fast in one day. This tutorial is so well done and easy to digest!
Great stuff :-) ... I dabble with a keyboard whenever I have the chance, and it's often hard to get the right balance between mastering some fundamentals, and having some fun, and learning something repeatable. I think you hit the sweet spot in this video. Many thanks.
I had lost hope of learning how to play it,but with this, am back on trail, big up
I been trying to find a good video for a long time and here it is. Thanks. Now I need to coordinate my finger movements
Glad you found it helpful man. Yes getting control of your fingers takes a bit of work and time to get used to but stick with it, it’s going to start feeling more natural with time. Check out the major scales playlist on my channel, starting with C as a good next step. Good luck!

It's been almost a month since I finally started to learn the piano, out of all the videos so far this is one of the most important ones I've watched. Proper posture, hand and finger placement, I really needed to learn those and I really started to feel like I can be an advanced piano or keyboard player some day. I'm planning to play choir songs for my church in the future but for now I need to know the basics. Have a like and sub mate. 👍
Found you and won't let go now. Hubs bought me a keyboard for Christmas because I've always said I wanted to play; had no idea where to start and then came across you. You are clear, concise, easy to follow and I just know that if it is in me you will bring it out. Thank you so much.

Dude this is so cool. Ive been playing metal/punk guitar for years. Always by ear. I bought an 85 casio for 20 bucks just for fun. Ive been messing around but i wanna learn for real. This was a lot of help man. Thank you so much

I just bought a small keyboard from a local Uber driver, random I know, and I’ve always wanted to learn how to play piano. I’m 46 now, but when I was 10 I used to play clarinet though I don’t remember anything. I tried a couple other videos first that were recommended but they spent no time with learning where the notes were in respect to getting comfortable playing those notes with a specific fingers and I was totally lost with those videos. However, your video has made it that I feel not only comfortable at the pace you work but I actually feel like I’m learning something! I know it’s gonna take a long time to get to where I want to be, able to play as an outlet of creativity, and I’m very grateful for your videos and I know will help me build the foundations I need. Anybody got recommendations for a good sewing channel too?
Thank you for taking time to put this video together for us that are intimidated by getting to learn how to play a piano. It's the best "intro to piano" I've come across, and it's helped me a ton. I appreciate the lack of unnecessary tricks and tips that always seemed to confuse me when watching other beginner videos. I've watched this a couple of times today while playing along, and I already feel that much more confident. I will continue to dedicate at least an hour of my day to my keyboard and hope to some day impress myself. Thanks again!
This is so helpful! Thank you!

One of the best tutorial for beginners. Thank you!!!
This lesson is great and very helpful and knowledgeable!
this beginner lesson/session is amazing. I cant believe it only has 3000 views. this helped me get a grip of basic technique (hand fingers and coordination) and the keyboard as an instrument so much more than any of the other "beginner" lessons where they straight up just jump into random chord progressions without any explanations.
