All I could think while watching the opening was "Wow those are some low singles prices."
I figured the really neat cards would have higher prices on them. I was shocked to see everything I was interested less than $0.30.
Ya it awesome when there’s they giant hitters in the set like manna drain, Jewled lotus, and vampiric tutor so these take al the money of the box so the rest is really cheap and great for singles buying!
@@zacharia4061 It's also the fact that the collector boxes are being opened a lot so there is abundance of even foil versions of all these cards. That's why even foil etched are cheap.
I think this is due to the fact, that most rares are Commanders. Demand for different commanders is not that high because they are often specific and you hat to build a deck around them, so you have an oversupply of commanders. Great for people who wanna buy their new commander tho.

I'd love for The Professor to have a bonus segment where he tries to deckbuild with cards he pulls from the boxes.
We all know he'd have, like, 2 half decks that would need a bunch more (singles) cards to make good, but I think it would be fun (and could pad out the time).
Absolutely loved the music choices lol. Felt like we were all getting crazier and crazier with each box. Well done Professor!

finally prof! you finally say it right, buy the singles you need, yes, but always recognize some of us open packs for fun and like to build with what we get. it takes a brave soul to come up with something out of the cards you get from a booster box, and a level of creativity most people forget about.

Man, I love that the set has cards like Jewelled Lotus, Hullbreacher, Opposition Agent... those cards are the ones holding most of the value in the set, which means the cards that are actually fun and worth playing are SO cheap! Happy for Mana Drain and Vampiric Tutor to soak up some of the value too, though I wouldn't mind if Scroll Rack were cheaper still... and then I wish the dual lands were less than $5 a piece, but maybe at that point I'm being greedy.

Ahh... the feel of having a stack of full packed unopened boosters ^_^. The excitement of what card might show behind the current. Looking at the foils, the art. It's all good fun ^_^. Some cards are really beautiful to look at.
In the time of Covid, my friends and I all bought a draft box of CL and we are opening half of the box and building a 60 card singleton commander deck using that card pool. Then each week we play via spelltable, and at the end of the week, we open 3 more packs, and add 10 cards to the deck for the next week. After 5 weeks, you have a 100 card commander deck built entirely from our draft boxes. Deck building has been a blast so far, and i think it's a fun way to get extra value from the box, and not just crack packs for the heck of it.

That first box was pretty dang good. Netting 25 dollars. Plus with all the leftover cards, you have a pretty good tool box for commander.

I thought of a way to enhance the "buy singles" message with the booster box game, after the box show us the cards that counted beside a stack of all the ones that didn't.
Hey Prof. Thanks for the great videos. Even without the "lesson" to not crack packs just for singles these are among the highest quality pack openings out there. I just want you to know that I for one, notice just home much effort has to go into these. Thank you again!

I don't know ... I have seen some commander legends openings and the cards don't excite me that much to buy a whole box for that. I just buy singles when the lockdown in my area is over.

@@duditsgrey5148 Not a dude... :) But, I cracked a few packs of Commander Legends (got some real sweet stuff) and I'm doing a janky Ghost of Ramirez DePietro (apparently Spanish and Italian is the same language for Wotc), just because how cool is a spirit pirate named Ramirez as a commander? Now I just need a black legendary to partner him with and one mill/discard pirate themed deck with some Lazav/Hostage Taker/Body Double action coming right up! Also I just sleeved up a Reyav Boros equipment deck (I added some white and Boros to my old Valduk deck, basically...)

legends was fun playing sealed, I got to create a stompy pirate deck with it. Also sorry prof, I bought 2 normal boxes (1 for sealed now and 1 for sealed later) and 1 collectors box as I wanted to have a go at all those weird alternates.
Buying for games is the right way to do it, I've bought a box as well to either draft with friends or play sealed with my hubby.
As I look at all these packs being opened, I'm depressed at how low the overall reprint value was in the set. Missed opportunity.
Also, I'm surprised the value of most of the etched foils is so low. Curious how the market reacts long term.

I hope some Hasbro sales rep watches this and realizes: "Wait, prof loses and still goes on? But he didn't do that with the masters sets. They are 300 per box and legends is 120. What does production cost per box? 2 dollars?! But he just opened boxes for more than 300! Does that mean we make more money when selling the boxes for cheaper!!?"
In an unprecedented opening, My box contained (and my first booster I opened) A Jeweled Lotus, Opposition Agent, Commanders Plate, Foil Etched Tymna the Weaver, Wheel of Misfortune, Jeska the Thrice Born. I sold the jeweled lotus for 75 about 10 days ago, and I kept the rest and that foiled Mana Confluence, so my total expendeture was 60 bucks - it wasn't bad.. but I still do slightly regret it since I still bought all the single cards I wanted (in quadruplicate) for 32 dollars (minus Sakashima and Hull Breacher)

Commander legends is a great set. I bought a commanders legend collectors booster pack and I pulled a full art foil mana drain!!! And 2 etched foil mythics as well as a full art three visits and a full art staff of domination and a foil legendary rare it was the single best pack that I’ve ever opened in my life!! Great video professor 😉 love this series
Could you make a video on how you sell your cards? I’ve been looking into selling some of my cards and have struggled to find a good way to do so
I'd recommend either selling to a company like Starcity Games through their buylist as a convenience, or by setting up a storefront on tcgplayer.com
You will get more money through tcgplayer, but you will also spend a lot more time mailing cards. M
Card kingdom will buy your cards and gives you a little extra if you choose store credit over cash.
Like all recent sets: It's mythic or burst. They put all the good cards at mythic and some at rare.

Funny enough, i added up all of the totals for shits and gigels. All the priced cards (In the video) amount to *DRUMROLL* $496.5 with a cost of $500.
You lose $3.5 without counting shipping and whatnots.
Ofc you are left with 1575 cards that arent priced. But at 5 cents a card you get $75.35 of net gain or $575.35 Gross
Again without shipping, sorting and publishing time taking into the price.-
Another fun stat 5 cards in the 4 boxes amount to 35% of the gross (abt 200 bucks), and out of the 1920 cards only 5 are worth more than 20 bucks.

Bought commander legends yesterday from my LGS for $110, and I pulled a Vampiric Tutor, Sakashima, Opposition Agent, Apex Devastator, Araumi, and Kodama. I also pulled one of each of the dual lands so I'm pretty pleased. No Lotus for this timmy though.
I usually crack a box of each set so I can get a copy of each common, uncommon, and a good amount of the rares (also for fun). To get one of every single in the set would be a massive headache to do from either LGS or online and it would definitely cost more than just opening a box (especially online ordering at preorder prices). If I only wanted a handful of cards, I totally would just buy singles (and did for Double Masters). Waiting is an option for people who have patience and luck that online stocks won't sell out or skyrocket in price (looking at you, Hullbreacker).

Commander Legends is one of those sets where I cracked the box purely for fun and interest first with value coming only second. Honestly had fun with this and glad that this is has an unlimited print run.
