Maaan, this is such an impressive set! Lots of value to be pulled, a lot of amazing new cards for multiple formats, and even actually decent reprints of the fetchlands! I’ll admit, I will happily buy every card I want from this set, cause they’re all so good!
Honestly, until I found your channel, I had no idea that buying singles was more cost effective than cracking packs. I mean I played in middle school, so like 1996ish, had few resources then and not too much access to local game stores, then fell out of MTG by High School. Picked it up more recently and grabbed some boxes, just because cracking packs was fun.I honestly didn't realize all the resources out there or that you could construct decks online and then buy those cards specifically (lol, clearly I lived in a cave). Your videos have really helped me enjoy the MTG experience so much more (not just financial tips, but deck construction, and product reviews). So, I'm glad you remind us that buying singles can be a way to go. :) Thanks so much for your fantastic channel!
I’d love to reiterate the statement at the end, they make a much better margin from singles and it’s a lot easier to move the sealed product of sets like this so if you really just want to buy something and can’t decide which of the two please do consider the singles you need and help your store keep things going :)

Second, I also wanted to thank you for addressing the shallow thinking comments of some that would say, as you gave example "I will save you blah blah minutes, buy singles!". As you have pointed out many times over, that advise is sound advice. Anyone who is just looking for a specific card should not be opening entire boxes of boosters just to search for those few cards. If they wish to open entire boxes for the fun of it, or maybe the chance to expand their collection with nothing specific in mind other than "Let's see what I get!", then they are on the right track. Who knows, they may find enough value beyond the cards they decide they want to keep from their finds, and still sell the rest to buy the cards they actually need. But playing booster box lottery just to find a specific card can leave anyone jaded and feeling remorse over their purchase. So as you say, Buy the singles you need. I love cracking packs in my old age coming back to this game after a long hiatus, but your right professor. Singles would be the better bang for my buck. Also, the shop I have been playing commander at does survive with online selling. The majority of the business is selling singles online, and the store front is bonus. Great video.
A super good way to demostrate the singles-buy thing is at the end of each Booster box game video a resume with total amount of each important card that a person would like to crack in a pack. In this video a saw just 2 monkeys in 7 boxes!! That would be pretty cool.

Also, thank you for gambling for me because this is an itch I cannot afford to scratch at the moment.
This is supposed to be an unlimited run set. I'll be curious how much Wizards reprints it
great track : The last time I saw Uran Zorb, was around 10 years ago I think. It s cool that they brought it back. I always like it, when they resurrect some of the old cool cards. Can`t wait for the next historic anthology set.
That feeling he gets when he pulls the retro frame merfolk... #thegiddyisreal
Happy to see you take cards for yourself and your deck Professor!
I'm going to guess more than one, it's a positive value product.
Nice work on the 69 puns sweet editor. A grand job.
Since I'm new to MTG, buying a box makes some sense to me. I watch your booster box game videos to see if the value of a box is worth the chance of getting the most diverse and best cards from each set. Thank you for your videos that have helped me to get into this fun game!
Professor single handedly does a mass box opening.
I love the booster box game videos, it scratches my itch to buy and crack packs when a new set comes out. These videos have probably saved me thousands of dollars over the years. Thanks prof!
“oH bUy SiNgLes.” Bruh yea, if you spend 275$ and get that last box that’s such a feel bad moment. Where instead prof. could have spent about 240$ getting two play sets of the Merfolk cards in foil retro frame and still had enough money for a misty.
Yeah but what about all the cool commons and uncommon playable pog
would love to see this kind of thing with set boosters, looks like that’s where the value for just cracking packs is
The slowly dropping price of Esper Sentinel gives me hope...
As an LGS Owner, we LOVE selling singles for 2 reasons. A. they are good revenue and B. it means we get to open more packs which we LOVE!
AN HOUR LONG. Never thought it'd happen
Watching this video in 2022 and these boxes are still nutty to open. Ive been buying set boosters as I can afford them pushing $250-75/box at this point. Love that Marsh Flats Hat Trick in box 1!
I know there's a ton of work involved in this already so I don't expect it. But I'd love to know some statistics about where the value came from. How much came from fetches, alt frames, things like that.
That sort of post game autopsy would be cool.
I love cracking packs in my old age coming back to this game after a long hiatus, but your right professor. Singles would be the better bang for my buck. Also, the shop I have been playing commander at does survive with online selling. The majority of the business is selling singles online, and the store front is bonus. Great video.
Wish we saw your face when those retro cards showed up.
I am glad you were able to get as many boxes from this one.
Long time fan prof, loved you on the take your shoes off podcast!
Was super cringe to see a self diagnosed autist try and live diagnose The Prof as autistic 😂💀
A super good way to demostrate the singles-buy thing is at the end of each Booster box game video a resume with total amount of each important card that a person would like to crack in a pack. In this video a saw just 2 monkeys in 7 boxes!!
That would be pretty cool.
The Prof: Buy Singles!!
Also the Prof: *opens banger after banger in the booster box game*
Love the booster box game and that box you opened with the two retro frame fetches had me grinning! Great video prof and I was lucky enough to draft a box with friends this weekend. Such a fun experience! Keep up the positive attitude and love for this game
Box #4 was absolutely crazy, just wow
And #7 a complete junk.
Prof! Repping a Warmbo, Some More News shirt. Excellent source of news in these trying times. Loved the video, music especially, and loved your frankness on wanting to complete your merfolk deck. Good luck and super happy to learn you also are trying to stay informed.
Oh boy I'm finally early to a hour plus booster box game! This is going to be epic :)
Wow what an epic run. Glad you got some of the merfolk you were looking for.
Very generous of you to give away the old frame fetches too.
Luckily I got this set to get back into mtg, the set is packed full of good trades
Keep chasing those merfolk prof! They've been my tribe since 95.
You missed Tireless Provisioner, selling for >$2
You hit the nail on the head with the idea of karma for how I think about it I just hadn’t put it words. Thanks prof.
The length of this video alone says enough about this set.
I'll never get tired of the Buy Singles mantra. Good advice is always worth repeating.
This set is fantastic! I would only buy singles from it after opening the boxes :)
Got to love those Retro Framed Cards! I still have never gotten over the change back in the Mirrodin/8th Edition era.
Awesome wrap up Prof. Starting to slowly watch your content again because of wrap ups like that!
Awesome! Thank you!
I pulled the OBF version of Svyelun in my set box. It is a glorious foil!
New challenge: The Signed Card Game
Can I make enough money off of Prof's signed card level on Patreon to buy another month of it?
(Disclaimer: I'll buy from myself any retro Merfolk Gods I pull)
You get a signed card more than once? I thought it was a one time thing when you become a patron.
Never mind, just got to the signed card part with the fetches
Fetches?
@@Ujabuja that's the hope.
33:15 those 4 packs were insanity, got basically the whole box value. Retro misty, ragavan, marsh flats, retro verdant
