My god, I've got one of these locks. Opened the pack while working away. Got home and realised the code was not generic and it was put in a drawer. Watched your video so i could learn how to open mine . After you opened yours, i paused the video... got out my lock and 8455. What's the chances of that eh. Now i need to figure out how to change it. Will watch the rest of your video as you could show us that too. Great video, over the moon i found this today. Thanks man, have a great day
@@LockNoob In the end, a lock is a lock and no matter how easy, or finger crampingly long is is to pop it, it's a ton of fun. Plus when you're having a rough patch with a new one it's good to just go back and whoop a buncha Masters in succession to get your groove back.
Pretty much the same way as I used to open those 4 digit combo chain locks for bicycles when I was a kid. With a bit of practice can open them in about 20 seconds without any tools. Speaking of tools... I have the same screwdriver pen as that, but found the bits too short to reach the screw to remove the cylinder from padlocks. So I found an old hex wrench the right size, and cut off a piece to use as a spacer and glued it into the socket of the pen so the bits stick out further. I also have a Master combination padlock I have no idea how to open, it has a single round button on the face that looks like a dial but is not and 4 arrows around it. The idea is to push the button in the 4 directions in the proper sequence to release the shackle, and it has me stumped.
Have you tried using really hard tension in each direction, releasing after each try, to find the odd one out? Then you release the tension, make the first move, add tension and find the odd one out from the remaining directions. Next release the tension, go through the first two steps, add the tension to find the one which does the same thing. And finally release the tension, make the first three steps, and then move the final direction to open the lock. That should work. If not, try using less tension. It would be interesting to know if that works for you.
@@locknut5382 I'll definitely let you know how it goes.....once I find it again. But uhuh no way am I making a vid. I'll leave that up to you guys that know what you're doing.
@@parapicktog7734 Thanks! And what makes you think that I know what I'm doing? 🤣 Having seen your video, it's clear that you have enough skill for the task. I was reticent too, until encouraged by Deadlocks and Hobby Picker. Videos don't really come easily for me, but they can be fun to make. Lock Nut videos are really basic, and are made with old iPads, no external microphones, no studio lighting, no proper workbench, no editing, apart from trimming of the ends, and multiple takes to capture something close to the desired result. The lock picking comes from lots of watching people carefully, asking questions, patience and practice. If you watch the experienced locksporters on YT, you'll notice that most are very relaxed when they pick locks. It makes a big difference. Give it a shot; you might surprise yourself. 🙂
I picked up one of these a while ago, couldn't feel my way into it because it was so stiff but I found that if you're careful with a decoding shim you can feel a feature beside each of the wheels which corresponds to the gate. The only problem is that you'd get the same feeling at diametrically oposite ends of the wheel, so if you felt it at 0 you'd get it at 5 for example, which gives you 16 possible combinations to try.
I have noticed the same thing on mine that I'm trying to decode now. I tried all sixteen variations, but not in all ten positions...is there a secret to figuring out where the gates align or do I have to brute force all 160 possible combinations?
@@isaacwoodard1029 yes it's quite simple. Once you find the notch move the wheel two numbers up. So if your notch is at zero your number is two or seven. Add tension and test the resistance on both wheels. The number you are looking for will lock up.
Love my frisbees, didn't realise there was a combo version of this. You realise that you're now responsible for me buying a combo version of my master frisbee Locknoob 🤣. Regardless nice vid, will be trying to do the same when mine comes in.
They have a key lockbox with the same sort of mechanism. The box can be recognized as it has a push-down lever to the left of the combination wheels, and a small-ish sliding dust cover over the wheels and lever. A challenge to tension in the wild.
Hey Ash! I was wondering (maybe you’ve already have done it), but an updated ‘what Lock Noob is carrying around these days’. I would love to peek inside your kit!
@@LockNoob that's the thing...locksmiths in my area thought my old lock was good ..which it was but it was pickable...a mult T lock...not even one of the harder ones with laser elements etc....so yeah...I would just like an opinion based on your practice . No pressure ofc
if it took long enough to pick the lock, for most people it will take even longer ;) except LPL xD unless the lock is bypassable or can be opened by a low skill attack easily, why not use it? I'd probably not use it for high-security applications then ... unless I want to be able to pick it in an emergency :D
Ok, I guess the picking makes the lock a 3 or 4 out of ten. But what about that key? It looks like it might be even easier to attack the lock that key is for.
Said it before and I'll say it again, Master lock exists solely for the entertainment of the locksport community, and provides invaluable training tools (the locks) to new pickers :)
This method didn't work for me. I slid a shim down the right side of each wheel and turned them until i found a notch. Then moved them two numbers up. So if my notch was on zero my number would be two. That meant that there would be a notch on the reverse of the number, in this case would be seven. I now know it is two or seven. Then I put tension and tested the two numbers for resistance. It will only stiffen up when you find the correct number. This works a treat for me 👍

I wanted a go at decoding one of these locks for ages, but was waiting until I could buy one at a rock bottom price! Fun decode though 😃👍
Good old MasterLock; (un)dependable as ever... Nice exploit, Ash! 🙂👍 Will it also shim or lift open?
