The beauty of Rammstein: it's not just good music. It is Art capital A. They blow you away with heavy songs, They get you crying with sensitive emotional songs, with gorgeous melodies. It is Theater from the highest quality. Their videoclips are better than Hollywood blockbusters. And their live shows are a not to be missed experience. Their pyro's , their backdrop, everything is the best of the best. Like we did not forget about the Beethovens and Mozarts from the past, I can only hope Rammstein will still be remembered in a couple of hunderd years to come.
They really are from that level and fully deserve it.

The beauty of music in my opinion is the ability to transcend linguistic barriers.
One does not need to understand the lyrics of a song to grasp the essence of the piece.

I am a true worshiper of Rammstein's art and sound, and I know they can get pretty hard and heavy, bit this song is no doubt the heaviest song I have ever listened, ever, any genre!!! It's so emotional,I can't play it more that once or twice in a few weeks... My mother is 75 years old, speaks perfect Deutsch, and she was blown away!!! Maybe this was the one song we ever had in common, and I'm glad about it!!! Rest in peace mom,and thank you Rammstein for this !

He's singing about him being the darkness that gives children nightmares and he's sad that he has to be the darkness to bring nightmares. He actually made all those cuts for real, for authenticity. Only Til would do that for his art. This was the first song of Rammstien's that I heard and I loved it. Now I'm a truly huge fan. Love them.

    [Intro]
    Now, dear children, pay attention
I am the voice from the pillow
    I brought you something
Have ripped it out of my chest
With this heart, I have the power
    Blackmail the eyelids
I sing until the new day comes

    [Chorus]
    My heart burns
    [Verse 1]
They come to you at night
    Demons, ghosts and black elves
They crawl up from the cellar rows
And will take a look under your blanket
    [Pre-Chorus]

    Verse 2]
They come to you at night
And steal your small hot tears
They wait till the moon awakes
And push them in my cold veins
    [Pre-Chorus]
    Little children listen now
I am the voice from the pillow
I sing 'til the day awakes
A bright light in the heaven's sky
    [Chorus]
    My heart burns
    My heart burns

    To blackmail the eyelids

Till is not just singing songs, he is PERFORMING! Wether with the full band or alone, he is in full character in every song. In this case, he is impersonating the ""ghost of past times" that is haunting you as an adult. Just like a "bad sandman", but he is feeling sorry, he is only doing his job 😉 In a way, he reminds me of Brad Pitt in "Interview with the vampire".
If you watch the original video and translated lyrics, you will understand.

  • @Hellknight27

The video for the original version of the song is well worth a watch also and is quite different.
Part of this song is actually taken from a children's show called Das Sandmännchen (The Little Sandman). Das Sandmännchen (The Little Sandman) is a TV show from Germany that started in the mid-1950s. Every night the show would come on and the das Sandmännchen would tell bedtime stories. Each show started out with "Nun, liebe Kinder, gebt fein Acht. Ich habe euch etwas mitgebracht" ("Now, dear children, pay attention. I have brought something for you"). This should sound similar already.
The working title for "Mein Herz brennt" was actually "Sandmann" ("Sandman"). Basically das Sandmännchen was nice and good, but the subject of the song that Till has dreamed up is quite the opposite. In fact, he was even worse in a previous incarnation of the song played at the Fanabend concert in April 2000 at the Knaack Klub, Berlin. In the old version, a man has killed the real sandman and stolen his hair to look like him. He shows up for the children instead of who they were expecting.
Now, dear children, pay attention I am the voice from the pillow I have brought hair for you I bit them it off of the sandman
I wear it, because you were bad I robbed him of hair with skin I bit off the bloodsmeared beard and tossed it on my bald head.

Based on a German fairytale about a character who tells children stories to get them to sleep. Till interprets this in a darker way. He plays this story teller as a tortured soul who is forced to tell children stories to get them to sleep, but once they're asleep the nightmares, demons and dark fairies come out. Thus the chorus "My Heart Burns". The 2 times he tries to smile that tortured pain comes out as he tries to look comforting but is in fact terrifying, and the smile quickly fades into a look of despair.
Deep, dark and brilliant. Just Till and a piano in an empty room with a hole (pool) in the floor where the tortured soul goes after his job, which he hates and causes his heart to burn, is completed....until the next night.

Humor, horror, tragedy, love, lust, hate, fear, loss, fun-loving, happy..................etc. Let alone side projects by members that are also amazing. The care they put into videos and live performances. They deserve so many more accolades that they will most likely ever actually receive.

Also fun fact that is the same room they used in the original Mein herz Brennt song where they kept the little kids, and Till was staring and crawling over them in that weird funny suit with a mask on and huge nail gloves.

I don't know if it helps, but the way this song is written and presented is as a very dark and sad lullaby.
Till gives us a bizzar version of a fairy who brings children to sleep, by ripping his heart out of his chest.
I think the lyrics of Till Lindemann are most often written in a classical German poetry fashion.
Even to me as a German his lyrics are not easy to understand, not on the first reading or listening.

❤️‍🔥I hear that this song has pieces borrowed from a children's show about the sandman, but it turns him into a tortured demon from hell. This song is addressed directly to the liebe kinder (beloved children), and is probably a twisted attempt to explain himself to them and gain sympathy. So... it is deeply sad - just in a creepy as hell way!

So goggles for no eye contact and becoming a pyro technician etc even the treadmill and wings its all anticts to keep him busy in between verses and choruses hes come a long way and one of my fave frontmen ever. Cool also that he was a poet but finds writing lyrics more difficult. So the fact he's so sure and confident and artistic fully now is so amazing

My Heart Burns was Sandman. The Sandman is a positive figure in the German-speaking folk myth. He is supposed to put the little children to sleep by throwing sand in their eyes. The title also bears the title of a story by E. T. A. Hoffmann, in which the Sandman is a monster who plucks out the eyes of small children in order to feed them to his young.

This song is also great as the official video with the full group, as well as Ohne Dich (without you), Zeit (time) - as recommendations for future watching. Lots more too, of course, but if you liked the 'sadness' aspect of this one, those are great too, and avoid rushing to the 'Adieu' which is a whole thing, but I'd leave it until later....

3 versions of this song : piano version, live and official video. Every has it's own "flair"! The piano version is something special, but live is life... ☝️😊

He is a guardian of the night, protecting children so they can peacefully sleep. When the sun rises he fades away with the dark until the sun sets again. It is a painful existence for him requiring a sacrifice of his heart which burns to protect the children.

Disagree. He is the bringer of the nightmares - that's why, even if you try, you cannot kill him.

I read some place the lyrics are based on a German folk story about a demon who brings nightmares to kids.
I have always interpreted this video as the point of view of that demon who does not like his task, but it is what he has to do, so he describes the bringing of the nightmares, but his body language tells you how much he suffers his task.
The original version though, might bring a completely different view on the same lyrics and melody.

Please please please have respect for Rammstien, don't talk through it. Learn before you listen. 95% songs have a story, sad, good or just funny. The work they do is just powerful. Go to see alive gig....... you'll never want to see anybody else as th3se guys are just pure. I've followed them since 97, and unlike most bands still the original line up.....

As I studied both English and German, I'm probably biased, but the similarity between the two langages are striking. "Mein herz brennt" "my heart is burning" is pretty obvious. In french, that would be "mon coeur brûle" : we still recognize the possessive "my/mein/mon" but the rest of the sentence is different (brl vs brn, and that's a coincidence). So, is german absolutely inintelligible to native english speakers ?

    • @uliwehner
      @uliwehner Рік тому +1

not really, but there have been people who tried to remove all the french words from english, leaving the germanic words only and speak that way. a nerdy language joke if you will. Pronunciation is so different though that people would struggle to see/hear the similarity. body parts would be easy, and food would be hard. All the animals have germanic names, all the meats have french names.. if you speak french you know what i am talking about.
