    @Toyota Maintenance. Thank you Professor Peter for showing us the difference between really bad and better transaxial/transmission fluid. You have great eyes for details. I only used a quick lube place once when I ran out of time to do my own oil change. Big mistake. They convinced me to change the transmission fluid showing me the fluid color was too dark. The transmission slipped after the service. The techs overtightened the pan bolts and damaged the cork gasket so I was losing transmission fluid. I took my car back and they replaced the gasket. I never went back. Hate when something that doesn't leak leaks after someone works on it.
    Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

    I feel like he should have checked to make sure the rear actually had enough oil in it. The only way I know how to do that is to see it slightly run out. With a 2004 4Runner that has the drip at the actuator seal I have to check fluid level frequently. I would love to see a video of pulling the transfer case and replacing those seals.

    I have a 2009 Highlander Sport with 145K miles, I love my car. I am going to replace the front evaporator core as it has a leak. It is a massive job and wasn’t able to locate any documentation on the best way to handle the tear down. I have watched a few YT video on it and know it is a lot of work. I want to replace my differential oil as well along with the transfer case oil as it has never been replaced. Also want to replace 4 quarts of the automatic transmission fluid myself. I would like to know where you can find all the torque specs for the 2009 Highlander? And what brand and model is your Torque wrench? Is a SnapOn? Wonderful to watch your videos, so much to learn. Thank you for sharing

For real life situations I would say 85-90% of people driving these drive with severe conditions and should adjust to severe recommendations. And if towing, halve those numbers additionally.

    Peter, Go to the dollar store and buy a few clear plastic cups. They don't even have to be the hard plastic ones... Getting the ones like the water cups at In-N-Out Burger will do just fine.
    You could even buy food service sauce cups at Smart and Final. They have lids. It would look so much more impressive to a new customer than a used food container.
    An added bonus would be that you could put a light behind them and set them on white paper for a better comparison shot in your videos.
    You could also offer fluid analysis through that lab in the midwest. They charge $30 to common folks, maybe you pad it by $5 with the goal of capturing more fluid change work. Of course, you have the lab send you the results, not the customer.

    Can someone let me know why to open the fill/overflow plug first... before opening the drain? I did not get what Peter said when he tried to explain. One of the other people mentioned possible low usage of the rear motor for AWD. That is a very good point. In testing the hybrid AWD, the rear does mot get anywhere near usage as the front - unless you live in deep snow and mud most of the year.

    • @seanh2390

      you want to be able to make sure u can fill it again before u drain it. fill plug can sometimes get stuck / not open easily, which is something u don't want to find out after u have drained the fluid. opening the fill plug can also help the fluid drain better (less vacuum).

    • @LAactor
      @LAactor 3 роки тому

      He exaggerates this because a while ago when he was getting a lot bigger a lot of people trolled him about that and that people at home would be stuck and ever since, he reminds people. But I told him, this does not apply to him because he is at a shop and has many professional tools at his disposal as well as a delivery supplier which many people do not have and that he can be exempt, but clear some people hurt him and now he must say it every time until he can heal from it. :(

    4:17 what is that five bolt cover that has a drain plug just immediately forward of the front transfer case? I can't tell from the closeup, is that for the trans? Why such a small panel? i can't tell if that's trans? Can't be motor, it's to the right in camera under the engine, black pan! A hex for that, makes it so confusing if it is, no trans pan!

    I'm taking my Tacoma to the dealer for a four wheel drive service. Front diff, rear diff, transfer case fluid change. How can I make sure they do all the work they say they're going to do?

    • @cottoneyejoe466
      @cottoneyejoe466 3 роки тому +1

      You have to get underneath and remove the fill plug for the rear/front diff and transfer case and check the color of the fluid.
      By having to do all that just to make sure someone did the job you paid for it would be best just to change it yourself. That way you know for sure it's done right. Plus you'll save a lot too.
      Or have Peter do it and know it will be done right.
