Developed Arsys Software and published by Konami in 1992
Anyone who's been following my channel for a while will know, I've played and reviewed quite a number of different versions of the game. Whilst many of these might feature tweaked graphics or boast full CD audio soundtracks, every version that I've played to date has, essentially, been the exact same game with the exact same number of levels and level layout.
Arsys Software was given the task of converting Jordan Mechner's classic platforming game from the Apple II to the Super Nintendo home console. Although the graphics and audio have received a significant upgrade during the conversion process, Arsys has done a lot more than simply give the game a lick of paint and boot it out the door.
Firstly, the number of levels in this version is substantially higher than the original version. In addition to several levels exclusive to this version, many of the original levels have been reworked or have received extensive tweaks over their original designs. The opening level boasts a number of new screens that sets the scene for what one could consider to be a "Director's Cut" edition, with new levels, traps and enemy designs that you simply won't find in other versions.
As with the original game, you're still under a strict time limit to save the Princess from the evil Jaffar, although the amount of time available has increased from one hour to two. Considering the extra levels and the additional time it will take to solve some of the more complex ones, you'll need to make every second count.
The number of special potions that increase the Prince's maximum energy has significantly increased with almost every level containing one (or sometimes even two). Many of these are hidden behind secret walls that are extremely easy to miss - sometimes you'll spot differences in tile markings on certain walls that hint at existence of a secret, but many of them are extremely well hidden. The game allows you to upgrade to a maximum of fifteen hit-points, after which the large potions simply heal you rather than giving any additional life.
As with other console versions of the game, a password system has been included that allows the player to pick up the game where they left off at a later time; this is a really great feature that is all the more necessary now that the game is so large.
For those who've played Prince of Persia before, there's certainly enough new content on offer here to make it worth your while to pick the game up and give it a go - the game delights in teasing you with a glimpse of something that looks familiar and then completely changes everything a few screens into the level!
Prince of Persia on the SNES is a great conversion and the additional content goes some way to making this one of the best versions available.

You got it. The limitations of the platforms or systems made the designers and programmers creative to deliver these masterpieces. Now as everything is packaged form them to just starting designing games with little to no challenge. The fact that video game companies are greedy and want fast money leads to the disasters we've been witnessing in the industry, games launched with 1000 bugs ( Cyberpunk 2077, Last of Us for PC, Mortal Kombat 1 port for the switch) you name it. Hail to the old school!😊

Being a musician/sample enthusiast one thing I noticed is the string sample used here sounded very similar to what was used in Super Ghouls’n Ghosts. Well I got curious so I extracted the string samples from both games and they’re the same sample! Here in PoP it’s got a little less high EQ and SGnG’s is slightly longer. Both composers must have got it from the same sample library.

But religion in government is bad idea since it scapegoats people usually like marxism or fascist ideologies if it gets in government in terms of wars and chaos. But if i were to say, abrahamic religions were made out of spite not truth. If you look at the history and values of it. And what if promoting some of the values does the opposite? Everything else is good, although I'm not sure I like the curly shoes and turban on the Prince. Maybe I just have nostalgia goggles for the white outfit and blond hair in the DOS original.

ahh...great to see this gem again after all these years since first finding in an arcade in the early '90s. You play it well! Just recently got it going on my og Xbox but controls are a bit clunky (or else I'm not fully proficient with them yet). Always thought Tomb Raider was inspired by it when it came out.

I like how the SEGA CD version has the same art style, character designs, and the actions they perform are basically what they’re saying.

    • @scissorman44
      @scissorman44 6 років тому +9

It has more content, actually has music(and good at that), and has visual variety to the levels. In which universe is the Amiga version better? And how does this version look ugly. Compared to the Amiga version, it has, get this, ACTUAL BACKGROUNDS.
At least say the Macintosh version if you're talking about the graphics!

I remember playing this game on the SNES and it was the first time that I've ever played or seen pop , I remember getting stuck before , but after a while I grabbed it another try and finally passed the level 13 I believe , now try beating a game without guidebook nor internet to help you out , if you can beat it without any help, than you're a freaking legend lol , and the SNES version is the best of them all

I give props to Arsys for not only sticking to the feel of the PC/Mac versions of Prince of Persia when translating it to the SNES and Super Famicom, BUT adding a nice vibrant feel while keeping to the atmosphere and adding more to the game.

There is a hidden room in the level with the teleporters. When you inter teleporter no.4 (with a guard and a skeleton on the ground), when you kill the guard, go to the right and pull up. there is a secret room with a High potion.

Had this on our familie snes
i was just a kid and the filth and the skeletons deep down in the lower dungeon scared me as much as the gradually more majestic environment in the mid and later levels. I remember the levels becoming more green psychedelic, and the music near the end, maybe level 17/18 was so weirdly composed i felt like drunk. What also scared me were the mirror and the appearances of jafar. And the random sounds of hard closing doors. I remember level 4 or so before the first female boss. It was summer and we ate fries.
