    I prefer you get to go hunting for Nilghai, but would really like to see you get to shoot TAC with your friends and fellow UA-camr's. I started and continue to do archery mainly for hunting, but I do really enjoy 3D and target events in the offseason. I don't see you making TAC events and 3D shoots your norm afterwards, but I do think you will enjoy the experience and if anything get to say you tried it.
    The paper tuner is awesome, bought mine last year and it is a lot easier than a stand style tuner or ladder. I use it as a starting point, but still work my way out to bareshaft at distance, especially for broadheads. Glad to see it picking up some traction and it is definitely a product worth promoting.

    I shot my 650 grain hunting arrow at TAC and shot every target at distance. My sight tape was spot on until about 60. Then I had to start adding yards on the dial. It may be because I also had 4 fletch 2 degree helical vanes. Once I figured that out it was no problem to hit foam on any target. I also used the RMEF course to practice with my EZ V. I have taken 3 elk with the V so I’m starting to think it works for me.

    I think every bow setup has its own peak efficiency for weight to trajectory. For example, from 350 grains to about 470 grains i get a lot of difference in drop out to 70 yards. But then from 470 to 550 my difference in drop between the arrows is very minimal. Then to 650 or 700 it drops significantly. So i think that around the 550 grains taw range is the most efficient for my bow.

    • @RanchFairy
      @RanchFairy  4 місяці тому +2

      I've see the same thing. Then I consulted some aerodynamics engineers.
      Not structural or mechanical or any "pretendgeneers"
      Aerodynamics engineers.
      What you are seeing (and everyone will) is VERY VERY likely aerodynamic drag.
      The very light projectiles have lower mass and higher velocity. In the drag equation, velocity is squared. NOT DOUBLED - squared.
      To go faster, we give up mass. Square the drag and take away mass, drag goes up and eats the projectile as it goes downrange.
      The 550 "or so" arrow seems (anecdotal - working on this) to be the middle ground for lower drag, a bit more mass to push against the atmosphere, and lower velocity
      Which is still squared.
      So, it's less drag, squared. but increased mass to push against the atmosphere.

    I have a question. This channel is dominated by compound shooters, I am not sure if the fact that I am using the recurve makes any difference when it comes to the arrow build. Assuming that I tune the arrow perfectly, what is "better or best" combination:
    1. 50 grain insert and 250 gr broadhead
    2. 100 in 200 b
    3. 150 and 150
    4. 200 and 100
    5. Something else
    I currently have 200 and 250 single bevel cutthroat broadheads, but I can buy other weights if that would be "better". Thanks in advance.

    You should've went down to 400 grains TAW or even less. You will want to be able to shoot 120 yards at TAC. Your arrow is still stupid heavy for an event like this.
    It's not as fun if you can't shoot all the targets. Why you scared to shoot past 80 Troy?

    • @RanchFairy
      @RanchFairy  4 місяці тому +7

      Well, Im not gonna shoot 120 yard courses. So, as a grown ass man, I can decide not to do that - right?
      I am not putting in the time to get out that far and become moderately efficient. (it's big speckled trout and bass time which will preoccupy me for weeks)
      NOW, AS NOTED. My arrows are built around aerodynamic principles. They are 100 grains lighter than my hunting arrows (also built around aerodynamic principles).
      I did say that.
      For those who want to shoot longer than 80, I think that is awesome. TAC is great for archery and every one can do what they like.
      Ya good with that?

    Your vanes are having to work harder to correct a bad shot with more point weight that why your 200s aren’t shooting as good as the 150s. I was shooting 150grains on my 3D arrows and dropped it to 120grains and the group got way tighter at 60yards

    • @RanchFairy

    Before you all start flinging around ADULT arrows watch/listen to the Nock-On and Podium archery episodes with Troy. He is on his back foot much of the time. Dudley and MFJJ are also very respectful and patient. Troy could take a lesson from them as his condescending sarcastic attitude gets very tiring. It's too bad because some of what he espouses is accurate....especially when he says 90% of the equation is the broadhead!

    • @Tyler_Lyons
      @Tyler_Lyons 3 місяці тому +2

      Except is Dudley episode was pretty much Dudley saying since you aren’t a pro shooter your opinion doesn’t matter. John contradicted himself so much and refused to acknowledge it. Troy was on “his back foot” because he didn’t want to argue the entire time with him. It’s funny cause the same people who say that it’s all about shot placement are the same people who say that they shoot a mechanical just in case they hit them back. No different than Troy saying he uses a sb just in case he hits the shoulder. But only one side gets attacked for it. It really should be the other way around since the stomach/liver/gut area is FAR less lethal than, ya know, the TOP OF THE HEART! Oh yeah, and running on 3 legs doesn’t hurt either.
