Seiko has had yet another strong year of new watch releases.. plenty of new divers and GMTs. But there is one that stands above all- That would be the SRPK17 Seiko 5 Sports 1968 re-issue. Here are my reasons why it's the best watch from the brand in 2023
I’ll be honest. I am not a seiko expert and I get confused by the hundreds of different models and price points. Especially since they all have names made up of digits and letters.
Thank goodness there are reviews like this which help to isolate some of the really good ones.
And this is just so cool. I’m in my forties so I appreciate my opinion on ‘cool’ is probably way off but anything seventies inspired is an aesthetic that really resonates with me.

Great review 👏 That's a really good Seiko 5 release. I think the Seiko 5 is perfect for such reissues and also collaberations, they are affordable and fun! You know you're also getting reliability and longevity. Wear in good health in 2024 and for many years after my friend! ✋
good point on the seiko 5 being perfect for collabs. the Bruce Lee Collab comes to mind.. but there have been some that missed the mark too.

I've been using the Seiko SRPK17 since release and it's damn near perfect daily watch. Pairs well with my SPB213.
Both great choices- I’ve owned the spb213 and wish I had kept it!
this was my favorite Seiko of 2023- and yes seiko can keep pricing themselves out so long as they release great reissues like this one.
Much as I like my high end seikos it can be a hard ask to pay what seikos asks for anything above the 62mas reinterpretation. Here’s hoping Seiko can keep releasing watches like this one!

The domed crystal is a must. Sapphire would be preferred tho.
I really like mine save for it running a little slow. I'm happy I bought mine from an A.D. so I'll get that squared away. I like the choice of Hardlex as it has wonderful clarity. I wrote this while watching, you're the first person I've heard enjoy the bracelet. I wear mine on a FKM tropic or this Geckota Horween strap I bought way back in 2016.
I’ve personally never scratched a hardlex crystal and it works for this watch! Great strap combination too. I’ve got mine on a blue and white stitched rally strap from Monstraps 👍

The bracelet is the worst part. It is so uncomfortable and stiff. I had to change it.
I hate the bracelet! Ordered a red rubber strap instead.
It might not be for everyone but I’m happy it is included with the watch. Lucky we can add straps any time we want!
I love the bracelet, but I understand it may not be for everyone. And the Hardlex isn’t an issue for me.
