Motley Crue sounded like all the other generic hair bands of the 1980s with their own little twist. Guns n' Roses were completely different, going back to roots of rock n roll creating their own signature sound and look.
Musically: GnR. Having a good time: Motley Crue (IMO)

My favourite bands of all time! I grew up listening 2 these bands! Nowadays rock is dead but if these two bands rereleased their albums again rock will be resurected
Guns N Roses
For me .. I'll go with Motley Crue. They're already huge with their release of their second album Shout at the devil (1983) not to mention an already moderate success of their debut album Too fast for love (1981). In 1985 they pioneered/jumpstarted the so called Metal Ballads of the 80s with the track Home Sweet Home of off 3rd album Theatre of Pain(1985). Followed by Girls girls('87) & Dr. Feelgood('89). They have so many great songs, hits,ballads, heavy track etc..
Crue paved the way for GnR
GUNS N ROSES
I think both bands kick ass and have read both The Dirt and Slash but I have to say that GNR definitely have an edge over the Crue!

GNR were all fantastic musicians, slash, one of the greatest ever guitarists, Duff Mckagan a Fantastic bass player and Izzy Stradlin the deffinetive rhythm guitarists all with steve and matt and dizzee read and gilby

Guns N’ Roses had one album and yes it was huge but Mötley Crüe had arguably 4 big albums and two of them were huge with hits in all of them so Mötley Crüe.

when guns was still on the way up, but they weren't that famous yet, I'm pretty sure they toured with Motley Crue in the mid 80s.
Motley Crew were decent at best musicians with write-by-numbers songs. This is not a comparison, MC was a gimmick band while Guns was the real deal. Look who they played with, Rolling Stones, Elton, Springsteen, U2 etc... MC never did alot of that because they weren't even taken seriously

Both Guns n roses and Motley Crue are my favorate bands. In my opinion you cannot compare perfection!

yeah, there's a perfect reason more ppl know of GNR than Crue...cuz (then new) MTV wouldn't play Crue's videos, and obviously there was no internet either, so Crue didnt get a whole lot of airtime...GNR just got a lot more coverage.
btw, just cuz a band has more hits than another band doesnt mean said second band wasnt wallowing in obscurity...Crue is pretty much the only reason GNR got started to begin with...and look at where these two bands are today.

well, I read the Heroin Diary ( nikki sixx Diary in 1987 ) and it says that he was friend with Slash ( they had party togherter ) and he helped them when they were still unknown.

as far as i know, Motley only introduced Guns to the sweet life of being famous.
but yes, the Girls Girls Girls tour, where Guns was the warmup-band introduced the Motley fans to Guns. And because Guns toured with so many bands from 1987 - 1988, they could promote the album to a huge amount of people all over the US and Europe.

Both are legends, but I personally prefer Motley Crue. Saw them live last July and they blew up the entire fucking arena!!!

Of course Guns N Roses. Motley Crue were just another hair metal band from the Sunset Strip. They are mostly known cos of their wild lifestyle and Pamela Anderson. Guns N Roses had critical and commercial acclaim. There is no comparison.
Tight match, Slash is my favorite guitarrist and my hero, but if we are talking about the whole GnRs I gotta give it to the Crue, GnRs-49% Motley Crue-51%
met vince and nikki at hard rock cafe in nashville last year while at college, been a longtime fan so it was awesome. im kinda biased to go with MC on this one. GNR is amazing as well, tho

yes man i agree with you.... i love 'em both. but in my opinion guns n' roses ended when slash, duff and matt eventually left. now i think GN'R should be called somthing more like "Axl and friends" ha ha
no the reason you can't compare them is cause they both rock hard, guns n roses only had 1 really good album because as many people say they were a time bomb waiting to explode and fall apart, which is what made them so good,

Both bands are great but Motley is on a completely different level than G n R is. They kick ass and the continue to evolve, constantly getting better.

If you are talking about the Skin N' Bones tour I'll have you know everything I have seen from that tour has been awesome, and everyone I know who saw it in the US were more than satisfied with it. That was the only tour Blind Melon was a part of. And I personally love how you keep saying Axl eating pizza is a bad thing when there is another video of Axl eating somethin on stage that has like 300 some likes and no dislikes on here.
I love em both, but Motley Crue STILL rocks, while Guns just reeks nowadays... So I'd pick the Crue over Guns any day, they just know their shit better...

its all a matter of taste. Motley Crue is a lot more fun and fast. But Guns is much more heavier.

I'd say Crue for sure. But Slash Deserves Credit as a guitarist big time. I just find Crue has more good songs, whereas guns had a few big hits and a few good gems. In my opinion Crue wins, but Guns definitely has talent, at least when Slash, Izzy, Duff, and Steven (Or Matt) were in the band.

whoever is saying motley crue had more hits... what are you talking about? gnr had over 20 different songs that hit the no. 1 spot on the charts.... sweet child o mine and welcome to the jungle stayed at the numbers 1 and 2 spots for something like 2 months...
and there's a reason the normal person knows of gnr and not as many kno of motley crue...
gnr's music just flows better and they have more talent in single members

guns n 'roses with metallica filled 26 stadiums in america .. motley crue and def leppard 36 ... 30 years later .. motley crue were born before and will die later .. guns were born thanks to motley crue ..guns have made 6 albums in 30 years (only one of covers, one with covers by mcharty and dylan and another with songs by l.a. guns and holywood rose) with 20 different musicians guns are a multinational ..i motley crue are a real rock band .. not to mention the skill of mick mars (slash always does the usual pentatonic) and tommy lee ..
IF and if Axle could still sing. And IF Axle and Slash still got along they would of killed any M/C sales of a come back albume . Slash on a bad day can play circles around Mick!!!
Motley fucking Crue they are way more rock n roll with songs such as "Girls,Girls,Girls,." "Dr Feelgood." "Kickstart my heart." and "Saints of Los Angeles."
GNR made some great hits "Welcome to the Jungle." and "Sweet Child o mine." and others but when Axl's ego got out of control the rest of GNR got fed up with that bitch and formed Velvet revolver.
The crue is still rocking their asses off with their original bandmates while Axl throw's fits at every concert over everything.

oh like a co-headline tour. I see what you're saying. That would have been pretty cool. but Vince and Axl's fight killed all chances of that happening.
