The minute long ovation when Kristin enters is amazing. The audience couldn’t wait to hail her iconic run as Glinda. I remember listening to audio captured from this night years ago - back when a film adaptation just couldn’t manifest for one reason or another until it became likely that the OBC wouldn’t get to play their former roles if one was ever made. Hearing Ariana sing the slight alteration on the last “she died alone” and hitting the E6 like Kristin did here made me really happy. I’m so glad the show has survived this long and when a movie finally happened they did it righteous with nods to its legacy all over the place. I hope the incoming generation can have as much fun with Wicked as mine did when the live show blew up in the 2000s.
It would've meant the world to see Idina and Kristin document their most iconic roles, but the film would've tanked so hard. No studio would've shelled out a tentpole budget for a musical with no discernible male lead; at least, not enough of a budget to accommodate the sets, costuming, makeup, hairstyling, choreography, and special effects that _Wicked_ requires. On top of that, it would've had to compete with the two reigning fantasy franchises of the time: _Lord of the Rings_ and _Harry Potter_ (aka: two of the most successful film series in that genre ever.) A film version would've stood a snowball's chance in hell against those names, and it would've been cornered with _Twilight_ having a chokehold on the teen girl demographic. I'm just grateful the times caught up enough that the kids who grew up blasting the OBC got to see a film version in our lifetimes. And, of course, that Idina and Kristin were given their due respect for their part in building _Wicked_ into the phenomenon it is.
@@SchnarphStudios if they made a 2000s version it would’ve been most truly butchered. I’d imagine they would try to make it a three way cast aka fiero pushed to the forefront . You would have had cut songs left right and centre . Shiz would’ve been a 20 minute scene pack with popular being a background song while it montages them both being awkward around the university . More emphasis on act 2 because of the action and wizard of oz pandering . I could go on , it just would’ve been a mess and you wouldnve gotten people calling it unadaptable as time passed. I’m surprised no one has mentioned the line change in the beginning. “You can respond. It’s not rhetorical.” The line is the exact opposite. She was soaking up every second of this final performance and I’m here for it.
Finally I found a performance where she hit the E6. I know that she originated that opt up but could only find one instance of it on youtube that isn't even dated (that compilation someone made of different glindas hitting this opt up, featuring Megan, Alli and Erin along with Kristin). She's PHENOMENAL!!
I can’t tell if it’s an acting choice of how she’s acting but she feels much more solmn and tired in this 😭😭😭 Glinda been through some shit since the first showing
I noticed too. She sounds so worn out and sad. I think it’s an acting choice because her final Popular was really energetic so I don’t think she’s tired. I think she’s just going hard on the emotion for her last show!
omg. kristin has sung it perfectly. as if she's a formally trained opera singer. she has, i think, a lyric tessitura. very perfect execution of the vocals.
She is a formally trained opera singer(she has masters in opera), and I think she still has some videos on UA-cam singing opera. She is also a coloratura soprano.
i mean she was a parody glinda (the original wizard of OZ glinda) in a really popular brainrot stop motion animation meme show i forgot what it was but i think its name had chicken in it
@taye1509 Sorry if my comment repeats, YT is being weird. But yeah, this was like 20 years ago so she was about the same age as Ariana is now, give or take some years. In theatre ages, she really wasn't old.
She DID deliver that last optional high noteeeeee
It was her last performance so she gave it her all! We love to see it!
It's funny because when Ariana did the same for the movie my memory immediately snapped back to this.

The way they yelled GLINDAAAAA makes her entrance like some wrestler entrance XDDDDDDD
Shoutout to that guy who managed to yell "It's Glinda!" over the applause.

i love how she sings the higher notes here 7:40 and here 8:19 that arent in her studio recording
i love the fact that ariana is such a stan that she did those in the movie
I hear more of the men's harmonies here. They're beautiful.

She is indeed a formally trained opera singer. And yes, her tessitura is so high that some even call her a sopranino😅

4:18 4:19 4:20 when her tiara shimmer mixed with her heavenly vocals is just prove of how ethereal and angelic she is ♡
It's such a shame that she never got to reprise the role at all :(
I think this was her choice.

this is INSANE
Two tech malfunctions, the trap door didn’t lower for the lover, the bed didn’t come in on time
I’d count it as one as most likely the bed came in late because they were waiting to see what the lover did
Just imagine those two young girls named Ariana and Cynthia watching Kristin’s last performance as Glinda
Please give us the dancing through life from this night!!!! I love the way she gives her the hat

Her vocals were so much more effortless and painless
Witch’s father is likely Ben Cameron As Sean McCourt is on as the Wizard (Joel Gray is out)
Cant see anything 😢
What does she say at 2:12??
"Oh, I love you" Someone in the crowd yelled I love you haha
This was also Joel Grey and Norbert Leo Butz last performance right?
I thought so. But it doesn’t sound like Joel Grey in this song

So she was Glinda for just a year?
9 months
Why???
Yes because she decided to take a tv role
I wish Ariana would of said that
So if you're going to do this dont not record the footage. I wanted to see her entrance. It was a let down.
You do realize they were probably hiding the camera from security, right?

bro this was years ago they can’t go back and record it again
2004 we didn't have camera phones. We had to SNEAK in a camera recorder and record it without getting kicked out.
