The prophecy could've been about Harry Potter OR Neville Longbottom, so let's explore what would have happened to the Wizarding World if it had been the other boy.

Also, Harry would have NEVER been placed into the care of the Dursley's. Dumbledore told Harry that there were plenty of witches and wizards who would have been happy to take Harry in to adopt him as a son and the only reason why Harry had to stay with the Dursley's is because of the blood protection. Without the blood protection, Harry would NEVER stay with the Dursley's.
Exactly! If Neville had been the chosen one instead of Harry then the Potters probably wouldn't have had to go into hiding meaning they never would've made Peter their Secret Keeper and Sirius never would've been blamed for their deaths. So James and Lily would've lived and Sirius never would've gone to Azkaban though Peter probably still would've been a spy but no one would've known until the 2nd war started. However I bet the James and Lily would've been tortured into insanity by the Lestranges and Barty Crouch Jr like how Frank and Alice were in canon so Harry would still need someone to raise him and obviously this person would be Sirius, with the help of Remus and maybe Peter, since he's Harry's Godfather. I really don't see why Harry would've had to go live with the Dursleys.
@@hobbes6557 If Voldy choose Neville than Snape would not change sides and so he would not tell Dumbledore who Voldy choose and both families would go into hiding and Pettigrew is the only spy and originaly Dumbledore offered to be the Potters secret keeper but they declined so he would offer this to the Longbottoms too and they would be very well hid and Voldy would not be abel to find them so either he goes after Harry instead or just waits.
@@blankahegyi5561 Yeah...I guess we just have to make it so that Frank and Alice turned down Dumbledore's offer to be their secret keeper as well and whoever they choose was tortured or something and just cracked allowing Voldemort to find them, kill Frank and Alice who would sacrifice themselves for Neville who would then be marked as Voldemort's equal.
@@hobbes6557 The only reason Lily. was abel to sacrifice herself for Harry is because Voldy gave her a choice he would not give a choice to either Alice or Frank.

I wonder who would have been the potions teacher in Snape’s place. I could maybe see Lucius Malfoy be the double agent. What would that do with Draco? And the realationship between him and Harry…

You are forgetting even though Snape only heard part of the prophecy, the rest of the prophecy says the one chosen will be marked by Voldemort and made his equal.
So Voldemort might not give Alice the chance to stand aside but Alice would still sacrifice herself to save Neville the ancient magic protection.

No matter how the Chosen One (Neville or Harry) survives, I do think the whole saga plot relies on the Chosen One being a horcrux. To me, when the prophecy says "and he shall have powers that the Dark Lord knows not" and Dumbledore insists that it is "just love" meaning just Harry's ability to not be tempted by a power like Voldemort..... I think that is a reductive interpretation. Yes, Harry's ability to resist the lure of dark magic is important, but his ability to see in Voldemort's mind and speak Parseltongue etc is cornerstone in Harry's capacity to defeat Voldemort. He used it to find the Basilisk, open the chamber, destroy the diary, see into the Dept of Mysteries, save Arthur Weasley, find out Voldemort's plans for the Triwizard Tournament (partially at least), and the Elder Wand, and most importantly to see where the last horcrux was. To me, Harry being the 8th horcrux was "the powers the Dark Lord knows not", and I think Dumbledore knew this as well, but couldnt fully tell Harry ahead of time in order for the plan to work. So similarly, for the whole plot to converge the same way with Neville sacrificing himself in the forest, Neville would have to be the 8th horcrux..... otherwise, he wouldn't have opened the Chamber and destroyed Riddle's diary, giving Dumbledore the idea of horcruxes. And even if Dumbledore had found out about horcruxes later on, Arthur Weasley would have died, Neville wouldn't have known about the Elder Wand and certainly he wouldn't have come to a place as dangerous to him and his friends as Hogwarts as he wouldn't have known the horcrux was there.
You fall on Hagrid being the one to kill Dumbledore? The guy who wouldn't even harm a magical creature trying to hurt him? The man who threatened Vernon for insulting Dumbledore? That's just silly.
Neville’s family would also probably have some more money because they wouldn’t be paying hospital bills for years to make sure his parents got proper care at Mungos
The sacrifice part is really simple. She still can sacrifice himself. Maybe she jumps in front on Neville because unlike Lily she didn't happen to be holding her baby at that exact moment and rushes in from a different room. Maybe he still tells her "give me the baby and ill spare you" because he does that all the time anyway, he always tries to manipulate before fighting. He even told Harry to join him. He's a manipulator first, killer second. Maybe it's enough of sacrifice that she doesn't go "hey, here's the baby, let me live" since not doing that is what saved Harry.
Would Voldemort ever be able to find the Longbottoms though??? Because it's Wormtail who betrayed the Potters but the Potters were given the option of Dumbledore being secret keeper, I think the Longbottoms would of had Dumbledore be the secret keeper and Albus would never give the location away, so would the Longbottoms just stay in hiding forever and Dumbledore kills the horcruxes and then goes to Albania and kill Voldemort????
Why would Voldy be in Albania he has his body.

Couldnt Remus have raised Harry, since not being the boy who lived means there’s no reason he needs the blood protection.
Or even Sirius, because he probably wouldn’t have been In Azkaban. He wouldn’t have ever gone after gone after Pettigrew because he would never have revealed himself as the double crosser.
I don’t think Remus would trust himself to raise a child alone unfortunately

If Snape isn't scared that Lily might die he doesn't change sides and Dumbledore will just not know who Voldemort choose so both the Potters and the Longbottoms would be sitting at home not knowing who Voldemort choose for who knows how long and the Longbottoms would use the fidelius charm too most likely and from what we know Pettigrew is the only rat and he would not be their secret keeper so either Voldemort just goes after the easier target (Harry) or just waits for Neville to go hogwarts and mabey attack him on the train.

What if the Dursley's refused to take in Harry?
It doesn’t make sense to me that someone can sacrifice their life for someone without causing the love protection to be activated, but if someone if given the chance to live, the love protection is activated. Either way, someone is making a sacrifice out of love. And Harry wasn’t give the opportunity by Riddle to step aside in the forest. 🤷🏿♂️
the willingness to protect your child is the same even if you aren't offered the chance to step aside. Alice would had given Neville the same protection Lily gave to Harry.
It's hard to believe that Bellatrix could get rid of James, Lily and Sirius all at once. or that Dumbledore would feel the need to put Harry with Petunia. most probably Harry would grow with Augusta as a companion for Neville or with the Weasley so Molly can be a motherly figure and harry grows surrounded by his brothers (including moRon and Ginny)
note on the first book. if you remember. there was only one dose of the potion to reach the room with the mirror. only Neville OR Harry would be able to enter.
for the sake of easiness lets assume that Neville got the parsel from the dork lard like harry did in the canon. one difference would be that Augusta would find that Neville is a parselmouth so he would be better informed than Harry. this means he wouldn't be as scared as harry to have a dark lord trait and he would send an owl to Augusta (and talk with McGonagall/Dumb the dork about the monster being a snake)
one important diference for the third book is that Sirius wouldn't be the one to escape Azkaban. I assume that, for some strange reason, the Longbottom trusted a spy from voldemort and faked using a close friend as a secret keeper and that friend would be the one to escape. but, truth to be told, it all depends on who the Longbottom choose as a keeper. we don't have enough information to know that.
I would want to point that Harry had to sacrifice himself because he was a horcrux. if neville wasn't one, then he wouldn't need to sacrifice himself and let the dork lard kill him.
I also would like to point that McGonagall isn't the only one that can protect hogwarts students. there are other teachers as capable as her. including Flitwick which was a dueling champion. also, Dumb the dork could ask Remus to be the one to kill him. or any other member of the order or even the headmistress of beauxbatons who could then return to france to be safe from the dork lard.
as an interesting thing, if not snivelus snake, who would be the potions teacher? SlugHorn? hard to believe.
one last thing to point is that... Snape was a well known death eater and lacked the funds to claim "I was imperiused" so, what would happen with him? Azkaban?
but one thing is james and liy were tortured on the order of voldemort, so I think snape would have changed side and helped Harry for Lily
I always thought that Voldemort himself went to kill Harry Potter because he felt a connection to Harry because he is also a Half-blood and not a pure-blood like Neville
Idk I think Nevilles mom would try and protect him even without voldy asking her to move aside. As a mother, I know she would have fought hard to protect her child so I don't think asking her to move aside would really change anything. Probably the same outcome if she tried to fight voldy to protect Neville as Harry's parents. Her love would have protected him and the curse rebound. 🤷♀️
Sirius wasn't close to Longbottoms so no, Sirius wouldn't have been arrested, and because Harry wouldn't need to be with Dursleys because of the blood protection, Sirius would raise Harry.

Why would Dumbledore need to die at all? Would he have found the ring that cursed him? If so, how and why?
What if harry killed dumbledore and harry became trusted and was a spy fir Neville but everyone thinks his a a traitor. reasons to become dark for proofs of becoming dark, dumbledore has not helped Harry with his situation with his family, and that he hates muggles. maybe dumbledore has beings planning this as a manipulation he knew he needed a spy, and in first year, he chose Harry and taught him in secret and his mind so he can be a perfect spy. this could end in 2 ways voldemort kills him for ownership of the wand or if you want hlm to live, dumbledore dies wishing to protect harry and gets to protection so and because harry not snape he uses avada kedavra on him. if he died then dumbledore manipulate him to die for greater good.

What would happen to Harry or neville in the forest with aragon or how would that movie play out since the anglia might not be in the forest or maybe lockhart might curse more wizards
But Year 2 wouldn't largely go as described in the Chambers of Secrets if Neville was the Chosen One, would it? Because if we assume that Neville survives the killing curse as a baby and it's because of *magic stuff* instead of his mother's sacrifice, would it still mean that the killing curse bounces back to Voldemort and rips his soul? Meaning, is Neville the 8th horcrux? If so, he should be the one who speaks Parseltongue, meaning in year 2 Harry cant hear the Basilisk, it is Neville who can and who opens the chamber. Also, Voldemort 's plan to lure Harry into the Chamber using Ginny as Harry's best friend's sister also wouldn't pan out entirely, unless we assume Neville and Ron are as close as Harry and Ron are? This is just to say, I think Chambers of Secrets would be different. Regarding Prisoner of Azkaban, on the other hand..... a key plot development in the story is Wormtail betraying the Potters... presumably, both the Potters and the Longbottoms were under the Fidelius Charm (which later the Longbottoms removed after the events at Godric's Hollow, which is how they were found by the death eaters). So who betrays the Longbottoms? If noone betrays them, then Voldemort would have never found them in the first place. So having said that, perhaps Wormtail would still be the Potters' secret keeper and therefore he would betray them to the death eaters. The plot of Sirius being accused of this crime and being sent to Azkaban would persist, thus maybe the events of POA would persist.

I am sure that the story would be completely different if Neville was the chosen one. I am sure that Neville would have died as a baby. The story would have been way different than what you talked about here. The third book would have been way, way , way different. I really don't think that you thought it through. The Super Carlin Brothers have a great what if video on this same what if. It is thought through really well. Much better than this.

Neville is a great character but come on let's be realistic he would have been killed in the first movie. At best it would have been a two book series. He makes it to book two dies Voldemort wins. Series ends.
But I thought it was canon already that Neville WAS the chosen one??
