    I like you. I currently have 14 parakeets, 4 cockatiels, 2 doves, 1 chicken, 2 bunnies and 2 dogs. I have a similar experience. I adopted a 1 year old Pomeranian. Five months later I adopted his sister. I knew their mother when she was pregnant with them. I cannot imagine life without both of them. They are 15 now.

    Maybe because they were babies and so young at the time, it was harder for both birds to remember there former friend. Well now there back together and it went well so hopefully in time they will reforge there lost friendship and be come buds again. Its good for a bird to have someone to connect with on a bird level to be birdy with and do birdy things. Cheers for a good friendship! I wish i could get a bird but i dont see my place being an appropriate fit for one yet. Its too small an apartment and not enough space and the walls are too thin. I look forward to the day when i have the space and time for one. Id really love a conure but i think a cockatiel will be a better fit for a starter and is what i got for my recommendations for the my right bird quiz. Your new baby is such a lovely shade of yellow, I hope she learns its just as good to give skritches as is to receive them lol

    Never thought you would have gotten Jingles a female companion already, I think it would be a good idea to get a female cockatiel around Monty's age so that he wouldn't have to feel alone.
    Well, nonetheless I recall reading somewhere about the appropriate, youngest age that is safe for cockatiels to start breeding. Hopefully they don't lose their innocent childhood (or babybird-hood) to 'mating at a young age'

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 років тому +1

      Monty is in love with my lovebird for some strange reason. He is not alone as I have many birds.
      Cockatiels don't breed until mature. Monty may like Willow but he may not. I will know soon. I wanted to get two of the same age so they can preen and play together. If a older female becomes available I may consider one but if they don't like each other it will cause problems.

    • @Da_RatRacer4251

      @@Loveofpets Ahh never realized he has a 'lovebird crush'. Yeah, I mentioned getting a female cockatiel of his age & species because I have it understood that cockatiels are flock birds and if his lovebird crush ignores him then it might make him more sad. Nonetheless, glad to have those concerns of mine addressed. Thanks!

    I got my cockatiel around 8 months ago and I wanted to ask, should I buy her a companion? I have a really big cage that could fit several cockatiels, (I am sure). My cockatiel "Kerusha" is really attached to me, but I'm starting college really soon and won't be able to give a lot of attention to her. Another cockatiel, I'm hoping, will let them give each other attention and company.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, if she is alone most of the time then it may be best to get another one but sometimes they may not like each other and can't be caged together. You will need a second cage for quarentine to make sure your new bird is healthy and won't pass on disease to your current bird. Some birds will like bird company but may not like to share a cage. You can place them side by side.
      Some birds are fine when out together but not in the same cage however they may love each other and be fine together.
      It's a chance you take on getting a second bird.

    • @surgek187
      @surgek187 4 роки тому

      @@LoveofpetsThank you for your reply. How can I make sure the new bird doesn't have any diseases? Do I just carefully watch her for any symptoms? Also, My cage has two big doors, one on the top and another on the bottom, therefore, can I simply split my cage in half with some thin plywood? The cage measures 35" tall, 30" long, and 18" wide, so, if split in half it would be 17" tall, 30" long, 18" wide. I'm still not really sure whether or not I should get another cockatiel, but I want my tiel to have a companion who can give her company 24/7. Thank you again.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, you have to monitor the poop and check for diarrhea, blood or anything that does not look normal. Make sure the new bird is eating and drinking. Look for sneezing or runny or closed eyes. If the bird is fluffed up that could mean he is sick. Also any feather loss or abnormal feathers, sores etc.
      Also it's best to get a wellness check at an avian vets and get the viral testing as some disease will show no signs until much later on.
      Also a fecal test can be done for parasites. Quarantine gives you time to bond with your your new bird until you let them meet.
      It's best to have the cages side by side as if the cage is split they can't see each other and can only hear each other which could cause stress and frustration. They may scream for each other.
      If you had two pairs then dividing the cage would work since they are paired up.
      During quarantine you must wash your hands when handling the new bird before handling your current bird.

      They can bond to each other and still be bonded to you but sometimes they may prefer you or the other bird so it could go either way.

    I have two hand tamed budgies. I am planning of buying a single male lutino cockatiel. I have two options now, one is a Male lutino(2 years) from my friends house....he has lost his mate 3 months ago, I dont know how he behaves but his owner said that he as usuall and as normal cockatiel( he is single in a separate cage but he also has many cockatiel friends in cages beside it)
    ....other male(1.5 years old) is from a pet store. He is so aggressive and tries to bite even the shop owner through cage bars. The shop keeper said that this bird needs a female to mate, so he is arrogant.
    But the cockatiel in the shop seems looking very cute in appearance than the bird in my friends house
    Which one of them should I buy now!?
    Will they be depressed or is there a chance that the Male bird in my friends home might have depressed by loosing his mate and die soon?
    Please help me

    How much time would 2 female cockatiels take to bond with eachother?

    • @Loveofpets

      It's hard to say. Some may never bond, some may bond right away while others take, days, weeks, months or years.

    What is the difference between male and female Burke?

      It's hard to tell which gender Bourkes are. A DNA test is best. In the normal color Bourke the males have more blue on their face.

    I would love to show you my cockatiel and tell me if you could tame him. He has been with me for 7 months now and still has no intentions of getting on my finger. He doesn't come out of his cage because we have two cats and plus he won't get back in his cage when I am ready for him to go back into the cage. I left him out for 8 hours and he hadn't ate for a while after being out and he was hungry. He was so hungry that he ate the millet out of my hand. But this was months ago. I want him to get use to me but I don't know if this will be possible since he is a year. He hasn't been around people and was cramped inside this cage with three other birds. I want to show you what I mean on my youtube channel but don't want to promote myself on your channel. I just wanted to let you know this. Its frustrating when it doesn't work out.

      Hi, can you put the cats in another room while your bird is out? He needs to come out as it's not healthy for him to be cage bound.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 років тому

      I see. A DNA test is best. When your Cockatiel is older you may be able to tell by the orange cheeks, males have a brighter orange cheek than the females but if you don't have other Cockatiels to compare too, it may be difficult to tell. The good news is that males sing and whistle and do a dance that the females don't do so you will be able to tell then.
