    Your video on bringing your new cockatiel home and the acclimatization process is a must-watch! It's so helpful to see how you've navigated the first day and the time it took for your cockatiel to adjust. Your patience and care shine through in every step, and it's evident how much you cherish your feathered friend. Thanks for sharing this heartwarming experience with us. Looking forward to more wonderful moments with your cockatie

    I keep my cockatiel cage door open during the day to give him the freedom of coming and going as he pleases. I recommend you do that as well for a much happier and healthier bird. Make sure that if you do this that you keep him in a closed area of the house like a spare bedroom or closed off living area. Clear the area of objects that could harm him. Don't let him chew on things like cords or toxic plants.
    Try placing a paper sack laying on its side at the bottom of his cage with some tissue paper inside.
    The cage should be a place of comfort, not captivity. You will find that they still want to be close to their cage because they view it as their nest.

      I’m planning on picking up a cocktiel in the next week or so,how bad is the poop when you come home say a 9-5 job i was planning on letting him free roam my room while gone,my room is about 250 sqft I’m guessing

    • @cockatielocreatifly4936
      @cockatielocreatifly4936  3 роки тому +16

      I don't think the poop is that bad, they mostly sit in one place so just put a small towel under his favourite spot. My cockatiel just sleeps when I'm not home. He starts roaming around when I get back. Please be careful that he gets enough attention if you have a 9-5 job, cause they are social animals and they need lots of attention!

      @@cockatielocreatifly4936 also eating seeds is not good for him. Try pellets that are made of food and doesn’t have a ton of sugar. He is not an outside bird so things high in fat and sugar are dangerous even in medium quantities.

    Dang, after 10 days, that's nice. It has been 2 months for me and mine still won't step up. He pretty much behaves like yours around day 6-10, except he doesn't step on my hand. he only steps onto sticks. It is nice you were able to skip stepping up on sticks. I do use millet/candy as incentive. So far he steps up on stick and eats from my hand.

    • @Openzmindz_

      @@cockatielocreatifly4936 He kinda does now. Only when I have food he will. His cage is near my desk and when I let him out, he goes to a perch I have setup outside the cage. He will hangout there. When he gets hungry, he will climb down to the desk and ask me for seeds I have veggies or broccoli in his container. He usually just stands in front of me waiting for birdcandy. I get seeds in my hand and he will step up. I had to start by having my hands planted on the desk because he was too afraid if they were any higher. I gradually increased the height, and now I am only like two inches above the table and he steps up for food. Took like almost a month of doing that everyday for him to finally put his two feet since he started with one foot. Atm, I am putting my hand with seeds every morning near the entrance of the cage so he has to step up to eat. He will go on my other hand that isn't holding seeds. Eventually I want to move my hand while he is on it so I can put him on his perch. Then eventually I'll want to pick him up from inside the cage. Atm, he does let me pick him up with a stick. Sometimes he just goes to it with no fuss if he's in the mood. If not he puts up a tiny fight but then goes on. He didn't step up to anything 2 months ago when I made that comment, so he's been getting better every month now. I hope your bird is doing fine : )

    I have 2 cockatiels (had one before them, so i knew what to do)
    and i have a cage but since day 2 they are both out .... not going in until they have to (cleaning) and now its day 17 ... they both sitting on our shoulders (me and my girl) going with us in the whole house ... and dont have problem with other people ... they are rly easy to tame ... trick is every 20 min give them hand food ... they are sometimes agressive at start but they quickly realise you are a friend ... to first 5 days he steps on your finger ... after this at night put him on your shoulder (when its dark) and you work on PC or somethink .... they will stay and rly fast realise you dont want to hurt them .... fast teach them to go for food ... so call them from 1 cm then 2cm to jump distance to fly distance .... and in less than month you have bird who will always come when you call them .... teach how to poop on same spot is easy aswell ... just every 15-20 min take him on finger give him command to poop .... do it like 2 min if he dont poop put him from you .... dont let him be on shoulder ... after 15-20 min same if he poop place him on shoulder ... he realise (ohhh i pooped here i have privilige to be on shoulder (they love to be there)) and start poop on just this place (Best is small tree what you can just take and place on other places) so you can visit someone with them and they will still poop there

      Some birds need lots and lots of time. I figured out my bird needed daily training to keep the progress going. What helps is getting him used to your hand with Mille spray. They love it will associate your hand with good. Also you can take their food out of the cage and regularly offer it to them and when he'll get hungry he will inventually be brave enough to come.

      I think you need to give him some time to get his stress level down. Talk to him next to the cage. Try it he wants some millet if you put it near him. Don't try to put him on your finger yet or do anything difficult. He needs time to know your good to him and wont hurt him again. With time he can trust you again!

    • @cockatielocreatifly4936
      @cockatielocreatifly4936  3 роки тому

      The bird costed me only 25 euros in the shop. The cage was probably 50 euro second hand. Make sure you buy a cage that is big enough. The toys cost some money but they will last for a lifetime. And then I'll buy a package food every month for maybe 5 euro. The candy and special for I also buy and will cost about 10 euros per month.

    i would advise you put more natural perches in the cage, so your bird doesn't get a foot disease like bumble foot! :)
    And add some more toys

    What is the perfect age of cockatiel to buy and the training will be easier? And also is there any medication required?

    • @cockatielocreatifly4936
      @cockatielocreatifly4936  3 роки тому +1

      12 weeks to a year old is the best time to get a cockatiel. It helps if you can get one that is already used to humans / hand feeding. Medications is not necessary, just make sure you let him get used to a varied diet.

    Hey sorry if this is late but i wanted to ask about something, when i got my cockatiel out of the cage for the first time 3 months ago he was calm at first but when i tried to feed him from my hand like i do when he’s in his cage he freaked out and started flying around we ended up having to force him into the cage and didn’t take him out since, i really want to tame him but i fear that he’ll freak out again and i can’t get him back to the cage, so how do i get him to his cage if he freaks out?

    • @cockatielocreatifly4936
      @cockatielocreatifly4936  3 роки тому +2

      What we did was make sure he has a treat he really likes. When he was out, we held that next to the cage. So when he flew and landed down to the floor we put the cage on the floor with candy guiding him the right way. If he is high onto something you can guide him by placing the cage right next to him and also guide with candy. Make sure he is not really full, so he will want the food. Aso make sure you have the time to let him figure it out. Hopefully that helps!

    We have a male pet store budgie and he really only likes me. Doesn’t like my kids though they want him to love them. Thinking of adding a cockatiel since I hear they can be better with bonding to more than one person and hopefully my kids can give the cuddles and scratches they so want to do with the budgie and can’t. Would you recommend a female or male cockatiel in terms of temperament and being loving? Talking isn’t a deal breaker. Only worry with females I have heard is the egg laying. We would go with a breeder who hand tames to get our best chance at the kids bonding with a young Bird for life but not sure if we should go with a male or female.
    Also- will one cockatiel be ok to manage as far as dust in an open room with an aid purifier? Still too dusty? Are cockatiels much messier as far as poop? The budgie poop is more solid in general and easy to pick up. Is that not the same for the cockatiel? Is cockatiel poop more liquidy and runny like a pigeon or similar to budgie?

    • @cockatielocreatifly4936
      @cockatielocreatifly4936  3 роки тому +1

      I have no experience in whether to buy a male of female and how much loving they are. I also think it varies per cockatiel, they all have their own personality. Budgies can also be nice with the kids. I would definitely recommend getting a bird that is hand tame already. I don't have any problems with the amount of dust my cockatiel creates. Personally I don't think its that bad and I dont have an air purifier. As far as poop it is easy to pick up ones it dries out, so that is similar. The poop is bigger though. Also be aware that male cockatiel can be very loud and be aware if your neighbours can appreciate that. Hopefully you can make a good decision now!

      If they are flying and they won't come back to your hand yet then its best to let them walk back to their cage by themselves. they will get hungry. Put some candy near it and chances are they will get back to the cage. Mine had a lot of trouble finding the door of the cage and sat on top for a long time. We tried to seduce him the right direction with bird candy/ millet

    🔴Put a large food dish and water dish on the bottom of the cage. Also provide your Cockatiel with good quality food not a bunch of crap. Your Cockatiel is trying to tell you that he can't stand on the food dish and eat that close, nor can he get his bill into the water dish.

    Hi! Just curious, what are the dimensions of your cage? Today is day 6 of my new cockatiel being home, but it lost a ton of weight... the bird store told me that my cage was too big though, though others tell me otherwise. I'm also going to refrain from interacting with my bird and add spray millet to the cage since I didn't do too much of either last time.

      I reckon any time is good, the sooner the better. We realized soon that he needed it to release his energy, Even though he was still acclimatizing. Just make the environment safe, curtains closed, easy space to land. And then just open the door and he can get out on his own term. We did that a lot and saw he just walked on top of his cage and was just happy sitting there. At any case don't force him. encouragement with candy can help motivate him to practice little jumps on top of something to get his confidence flying.

    • @cockatielocreatifly4936
      @cockatielocreatifly4936  3 роки тому +1

      Take slow steps, he needs to learn that your hand and you aren't scary first. Try to talk to him quietly, spend time with him. Give him some candy through his cage. And then you can start giving the candy closer to your hand slowly. Important is to allow the bird to come to you. Avoid him biting, do things that he is comfortable with and step it up when he is ready.
