    This dates back to when roleplaying was simple and fun but added a ton of info if you wanted it .
    Still one of my favourite game systems and in my opinion the best Saar Wars game from a time when the films were great

    This video is about a year old, and I gave it a few minutes (3:14, funny enough) of watching and wanted to say, this game, the WEG D6 Star Wars game was the very first roleplaying tabletop game I ever played. A lot of fond memories with this and I will pick up these books again, whichever ends up being cheaper for me. I love these games and the nostalgia I feel for them is on a level only matched by SNES, N64, and all the classic Millenial stuff

      Prefer the more crunchy 2.5 Edition, but 1E is definitely *awesome* and single-handedly got us original SW fans through the Dark Years of the fandom (1986-1991). Although, to me, the revival was short lived (1991-1996). Now, in my opinion, SW is dead.
      Thank God for the high-definition Despecialized Editions of the original trilogy.

    Wow! I didn't know anything about these reprints from Fantasy Flight. I do see they're still selling these and I will be picking them up. While I have enjoyed the new iteration of the Star Wars RPG, I really enjoy the old school version as well. I too, have the older books but would love to get the F.F. version of them in the 2-book set. It's been over 2 years since you posted this video so I'm glad that I was able to see this and still get these books. Thanks for taking the time.

    I have owned the WEG SW Sourcebook since I was a teenager, for decades before I ever started playing any RPGs. This was just because it's a damn cool book. Recently, I managed to acquire a first edition print of the core rulebook to go with it. I'm so chuffed.

    Should check out the generic D6 System core book and it’s supplements.
    Good review, definitely the best Star Wars RPG. WEG lost the license right before the Prequels, so it’s pure old-school Star Wars.

      Joe Coo I'm with you on the FFG dice mechanic. Its interesting, but for me it just doesn't feel like Star Wars. Always preferred WEG.

    • @joecoo4615
      @joecoo4615 6 років тому

      I can appreciate its different strokes for different folks.
      I converted the FFG idea for D6's
      Instead of adding the pips or numbers up
      You use them to narrate the action.
      Using different coloured / different sized dice that represent
      The aspects that FFG are going for.

    • @joecoo4615
      @joecoo4615 6 років тому +1

      I've always used the wild die as a narration tool rather than just adding the number the 6 on the wild die dose get rolled but builds on to the plot.
      Are you familiar with Anti Paladins Mini Six System.
      It uses a similar mechanic too WEG D6 however its been streamlined.
      Would also like to use C7's One Ring rules for Star Wars scenarios.

    I own most of the West End Games Star Wars RPG books (they published about 140).
    Enjoy all the versions of the game. However, I believe the 2.5 Edition from 1996 to be the *final* word on an RPG set in that universe. It’s simply perfect.
    I run this game at my comic shop. Everybody loves the D6 System. Simple, yet deep. It’s logical and intuitive. A real pleasure to play.
    I’m 40 years old, so for me and those like-minded, the WEG Star Wars RPG has a lot going for it, not least of which is the fact that WEG lost the license in 1998; right before the Prequel crap. Therefore it’s pure *original* Trilogy and Expanded Universe. That’s the key to all the love it receives - combined with featuring a genuinely perfect cinematic game system for Star Wars.
    Enjoying your output! Keep it up. I subscribed.

    That square based mini is from the first edition of the D20 Star Wars. WEG had a D20, D20 Revised, and Saga Edition of Star Wars before dropping the license. The Saga edition is the best of the three and had a lot of great books made for it. There was a WEG line of minis that are hard to find. Those minis were metal cast on the base and were slightly smaller even then those pre-painted minis from Wizards.

    D6 is my all time favorite version. Although force users can be overpowered, you can figure out how to deal with them.

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus 6 років тому +3

      Force users get over powered eventually, if left alone, which is a conceit of the source material. The limit on force powered characters isn't regulated by game mechanics, but by in game issues. If you're playing a rebellion era campaign, by default, as soon as a force wielder starts tossing around Storm Troopers they are going to capture the notice of the Empire, and inquisitors will be sent to deal with them.

    • @PsionicMonk
      @PsionicMonk 5 років тому +2

      captcorajus Also the fact that force skills and abilites (Control, sense, alter) take much more CP investment without a teacher who has a better ability (2x IIRC) means if a characters starts getting close to OP you can cut off a mentor, and the fact there are in lore (assuming you don't care about Disney slaughtering the EU) friendly enemies that can nullify or are immune to the Force allows other characters to shine and force users to rely on their team more.

    Great overview. I'm new to tabletop Role playing & my first game I playing is of course SW. I'm learning to play solo so I'm learning how to play, GM, use solo engines, oracles, etc. This lead me to this SW game & I find the d6 system very appealing as a brand new player. How different are the 2nd editions compared to 1e? Also, the full color of the 2e R&E is very appealing :).

    Hey there guy, I noticed in your discussion of the dice pool system there is no mention of the "wild" die . Assuming anyone is scrolling and cares enough, if you have, for example, 4D in blaster, you would roll 3 six sided dice, and one, different color six sided dice. The numbers would be added as normal, but if you rolled a 6 on the wild die, you could reroll it (as oftrn as you got a 6, this is the case) and the same with a 1 (each 1 on the wild removing your highest dice roll)

    • @questwise4077
      @questwise4077  5 років тому +1

      Actually, the original version I focused on here did not use a wild die. That only came about in the 2nd edition, but it was a very welcome addition to the game.

    • @PsionicMonk
      @PsionicMonk 5 років тому

      Quest Wise Ah, indeed. I wasn't aware of this! I was in middle school when I first played D6 Star Wars, our GM must have been using SE rules.

    • @questwise4077
      @questwise4077  5 років тому

      @@PsionicMonk 2nd edition was by far the most popular version of the West End Games rpg. I believe that I began with that version as well, the one with the Millennium Falcon on the cover, but found the 1st edition a year or so later and really enjoyed the ease of teaching people to play with it. Also, the nostalgia factor of the 1st edition is fun, but 2nd edition is by far the best. ;)

    • @PsionicMonk
      @PsionicMonk 5 років тому

      Quest Wise I agree. The addition of a wild factor added tension, and overall I have probabaly spent about 100 hours developing characters and designing different ways to play the second edition. With the nature of role-playing games and the necessary need of other people to actually play the game I eventually moved on to Dungeons and Dragons and the D20 role-playing system which is where I spent a majority of the current ERA developing my worlds but I never specified them to a D20 setting I felt as though the D6 setting was a lot easier and developed much more depth in each character allowing them to fulfill a specific niche in the party whereas D20 you are stuck with the niche of your character class or combination of classes
