Me and a ouple of Friends recently also returned to Clix.
You should do another video with the black stone arc ending. Personally I was not a fan but respect the creativity and artistic vision to do something different.
It's coming up soon. 😉
The original Heroclix/Mage Knight didn't need a ring, though the bases didn't click quite like the modern ones. I remember when the rings were introduced. Cool stuff. Really looking forward to this series. I love seeing someone with passion for what they talk about it. Well done, my brother.
Looks like this collection is in good hands and will continue to survive and not be sold off. I am excited to watch this series and be part of the journey. I buy old stamp albums and look through them the same way. Try to figure out why they collected the way they did and organized their collection. I just don't want to see old collections just be tossed in the trash.
One Heroclix ring to rule them all! That's so cool and I'm glad he had at least one in his collection. I have the blue one. I also have that Sentinel clix in storage. Touching story and sorry that he has passed, my condolences. It's a good thing you're doing, honoring his legacy in a fun way. Looking forward to watching this series. I appreciate your authenticity and click it up!
Quite a collection. We all know you will take care of it.
Oooooh, plastic crack!! I still remember getting caught in that trap all those years ago. Now I just don't have the space....
Im late to the party but just wanted to say: great video, and trip down memory lane. I struggled with reading as a kid. But then this book came along. I needed to know how to make a character so it's like my brain forced me to learn English so i could play the game. I then was well ahead of the curve in my teens, straight As. So i credit the dense rules in this book for my entire education!
Bro! DnD collectible trading cards. I used to have a bunch of them! They were awesome, great for when you needed an NPC or other kind of encounter on the quick.
Quest, did you ever plan anything for your next convention? I've run Battlesystems Skirmish (the AD&D 2e miniatures game) before with a lot of success. Its a good way to give convention-goers a taste of 2e. Have you played any 2e since this video?
I have very fond memories of Battlesystems. It was the "first" miniatures game I had rules for. I have not had a chance to play 2nd edition since this video, but am planning a winter session in the game room in my basement this year.
Hi I'm chicken little
Quest Wise kicks ass.
Thanks! Imho you have the best palladium content on youtube
Glenn Cook - The Black Company? If you haven't been exposed...check it out. As an asside, if you enjoy his work, you're in luck as Glenn has actually written more books recently that have yet to be printed.
What a powerful review! It sounds like your journey discovering Howard and especially his other characters is similar to my own. Thank you so much for your support, dog brother! ⚔️
I appreciate your kind words. Game on!
I love Heroclix but that being said it’s been difficult to play the game. There’s a lot of referencing the powers and abilities constantly. Also, there never seemed like much support for interesting, story-like scenarios or strategic games or campaigns. The potential is there but it wasn’t taken full advantage of. The minis are great for other games especially superhero RPG’s. Love that you broke silence about Heroclix. Tip: click it up with the blue ring instead of with hands, much easier. Love your vids and keep up the great work!
I've been working on some casual narrative scenarios to play with friends here locally. And I plan on chronicling my journey in a series of videos. Game on!
Sorry, it is feasibly to use ironsworn tables to others game? I thought it is tied to its system..
Saying something is well done and not giving reinforcement with examples falls a little flat. Don't get me wrong, some examples were shown, just not on every "it does very well." I appreciate the stability vs. sanity explanation.
I'm going through this book right now and finding the minutia is inhibiting me from getting into it. Often in rpg's, less is more. However, I'll take your advice and start reading the adventure parts first. Hopefully it makes it easier to absorb the proceeding info. Cheers!
I want to play and experience the old ways of spell casting!
so many peoples complaints about older D&D are just things someone heard someone else say, and it gets repeated as a new truth. THAC0 is dirt simple, weapons speed is added to dex bonus and written on the character sheet (and does not change unless you get a magic sword, or a really rare way to improv DEX) so it's not like you have to recalculate it every round... roll d10 and add that same number, and that's it. 2E is still being mined continuously for the ideas that 5E is so bereft of...Settings, DM advice, everything..
Welcome back to the Collective!!
The Ars Magica Definitive edition (refinement of 5e) is on backerkit right now , for anyone interested
Was collecting them for years, never met anyone that plays.
Love Heroclix, Have not played much since they added the cards. Used to always be on the hunt for the Judge Dredd back in the day.
You're in MI! I've been wondering what the community looks like here. We were just up in TC a couple weeks ago for our anniversary and I've just bought my first two starter boxes. Really excited to try this out and how it might work to try some solo campaigning.
I am indeed in TC. Community is meh right now. I've been using the minis in some Pulp Alley games, and also been working on some solo thoughts for this as well.
Is this book worth picking up if I already have Wolfen Empire? What content is here that the Wolfen Empire book doesn't have?
Do you not use weapons specialization as first seen in AD&D Oriental Adventures? I do.
I was just thinking about something like this, but trying to keep it more on the fantasy side. Pulling enemies from Rifts but bouncing between different fantasy realms.
A reader tagged me on a link to this video so I just checked it out. Thank you for the high praise for all our hard work on this series. Working on Conan and the other REH characters has been a real dream come true and our team is so wonderful to collaborate with. I feel incredibly fortunate. There is a grand long term plan for as many of these characters as possible, so if you don't see them all in this mini-series, know that there are more stories yet to be revealed...
Thank you for checking out my channel, sir! I came to Conan, and the Howard-verse later than most (around my late 20's) and have been enamored with his work and characters ever since. Howard's stories have inspired me not only in game designs but also in launching my own series of Pulp tales with my own original characters. I absolutely love what you and Titan Comics are doing with his characters and mythos. Thank you for sharing your talent and keeping the dream of Robert Howard alive and well.
This guy gets it. A lot of my adult gaming had been trying to recapture the feel of those first D&D sessions I played in the early 80s, and only OSR games deliver that.
Those are totally the IDW Turtles.
Thank you for sharing! I appreciate your stories of gaming. I turned 50 this year and I have similar childhood memories of D&D and Marvel Superhero RPGs. I only played them with one other friend, but you and your channel reminds me of those days! I got back into the hobby around the pandemic but have only really played solo for the most part. T
Time to bust out the paints!!!
Yahoo, thank you! you created bet ~sleep well. 🤗
I had backed the tmnt miniature board game while back. Tons of minis that would be great for it.
I'll have to look that up!

I listened to this on my commute into work and it struck a chord. Especially the video game comparison. Definitely TTRPGs allow for the players imagination to render the scenarios, events, and landscapes. I was playing a video game later that day and another thing struck me. Dialogue. Dialogue between the players or especially NPCs. In video games, dialogue is mapped out but has a finite number of options and usually funnels you towards an end point. Playing at a table with a GM and players those options are wide open.
Great flipthrough! Is this a stand alone rulebook or a supplement that requires the Call of Cthulhu Keeper Rulebook? Are there additional books you need or would want to play this game?
It is not a stand alone, you would need the Call of Cthulhu rules, although the quickstart rules from the beginners box would be more than enough to play.
Great story!
Awesome video, man! Love these kinds of random discussions.
Been meaning to ask. What gaming stores do you recommend in your area? My fam are up there pretty frequently but we haven’t stumbled on any.
We have a few stores in the area. The two most prominent are TC War Room (inside TC Paintball) and The Fun Factory.
@@questwise4077 awesome! Thanks for the suggestions! We’ll look them up.
I quickly jotted this down on a piece of paper when I first heard it on the raido. I think it applies to what your saying with regard to the video games vs. pnp rpgs discussion. DND stimulates our imagination. watching tv and movies reduces your imagination. listening to things we are stimulating our brain to create our own *personal* images. the brain likes to produce images, its always imagaining things. people's visual imaging is richest when they are not being bombarded by external visuals. the more we work on making our own images the more powerfully attached we become to them because they arise deep within us. processing external visual images it is much more passive-cognotive mode compared to imagine one's own images. our mental imaging systems have freewilling authority to generatre whatever visuals they want. listening therefore imparts much stronger emotions than viewing. listening pulls you into the world while looking separates you from the world.
Great video. Odd question but are you half-polynesian?
I am actually German and Native American. Though I was once mistaken for Benedict Wong at a gas station, back when he was portraiting Kubla Khan on the show Marco Polo. Lol! Maybe I have some of that Mongol blood in me...
@@questwise4077 Wow that's genuinely awesome!
Like the hat my friend.
Well said, sir. Hear, hear! I am a compulsive world builder and world simulator, so I am definitely picking up what you are putting down. Old school games were always more alluring and romantic with their sense of mystery and wonder rather than the power fantasy and wish fulfillment focus of most modern fiction. They were worlds we could share and explore rather than walled gardens we had to abide the correct standards of. If I may offer a recommendation from my library, please take a look at Mappa Imperium. It's an amateur publication on Itch which focuses on turning cosmology and world history building into a 15 minute minigame and I think you'd find it interesting as a supplement to your gaming. Again, thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Love the rule book. So simple and to the point rules that's easy to understand. Going from this to warhammer old world made me want to play this one even more. Ranks make more sense as well.
Interesting concept! I have been browsing the web for a skirmish game to handle pulp Cthulhu and I think this game may be flexible enough to scratch that itch. I'm interested to see what you come up with for the Blackstone campaign.
The flavor text on Distraction made me chuckle. Looking forward to seeing more on this system and a battle report or two. Thanks for the video Mr. Quest Wise.
Greetings from the UP of Michigan. I absolutely love RE Howard's works. I think I've read most of them and have that same series of books you showed off. I need another game system like I need a hole in the head, but you are really tempting me with Pulp Alley. Cheers Mr. Quest Wise.
Greetings in return from Northern Lower Michigan! Many more Pulp Alley videos to come, hopefully to further entice you. 😉
Great insight! I am really enjoying your videos. Can't wait to see what you come up with next. :)
