Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed the company of the Obamas so much that she even wanted to invite them back once Obama left office, something that had not been done with any other former presidents. According to Insider, a former employee told royal author Tom Quinn that "The queen has a soft spot for Americans after meeting Barack Obama who she completely fell in love with - so much so that she has frequently asked her courtiers if they could arrange for him to come to Britain now he is no longer president." Barack and Michelle Obama joined the world in expressing their sadness over the queen's passing and shared a statement on Twitter saying, "Michelle and I were lucky enough to come to know Her Majesty, and she meant a great deal to us." I'm an American and generally feel monarchies are absurd and outdated. But losing the Queen was such a tremendous loss for the entire world. Her grace, charm, and dedication was simply unparalleled. Fortunately, we were blessed with 70 years.

As a Brit that's lovely to hear from President Clinton. Always liked him and love the humour of President Bush since he stepped down. Pity we don't see that humour and human side of politicians more when they are in office it would endear them to people. I'm in my 50's and yet can still remember the Silver Jubilee when I was 9 years old. Incredible to think that a monarch can serve for that length of time. Rest in Eternal Peace Queen Eilzabeth II.
Clinton and Bush two war criminals that should have been sent to the Hague years ago for their war crimes, disgusting that those people are still at large.
Maybe if they stopped being corrupt and bombing poor countries for their natural resources they would be even more popular. How many times was he on the Lolita Express?
+Chris. Some politicians do have that touch. Ronald Reagan in particular comes to mind. Or Sir Winston Churchill. Queen Elizabeth II only beat Queen Victoria by 6 years (the latter reigned from 1837 to 1901). But still, that was an achievement.
They've both always been charmers. Clinton, especially. It's largely why he was elected by such huge margins both times. We've long had a tendency to choose presidents based on how they make us feel rather than their acumen or qualifications. Of course, once they're in office, any bad policies will obscure said charm. Though his policies and decisions were largely bad, President Bush, for his part, is a tremendously decent human being. He was just in a bit over his head. It's partially our fault for putting him there, I suppose. That said, to his credit, he should be remembered for what he *didn't* do. After 9/11, he could've demonized the Muslim community. America was looking for a scapegoat. He defended American Muslims.

President Clinton really meant what he was saying, and I could tell. Queen Elizabeth was a very admirable woman, and anyone would be lucky (and maybe more) to be in her presence. This was a wonderful interview with one former leader talking about another.
Correction: Not since Dwight Eisenhower but rather Harry Truman. Elizabeth II became Queen in 1952, and Truman was still President of the United States (Eisenhower was elected in 1952 but was of course sworn in on Jan 20th 1953) although she met Truman in 1951 while she still Princess Elizabeth.
Who said she didn't have any actual power? She had all the powers constitutionally given to her but she used them in a way that the power didn't feel dominant to the public. What do you think the monarch discusses with PM in their weekly meetings? Monarch conveys his wish regarding any issue to the cabinet through the PM.
'A cut out figure.' ??? Huh, Rita is a bright lady, but that was a bum statement. The Queen is and 'was' a wonder. Glad to have lived during her reign and time. God Save the Queen.
She was simply commenting on the way most Americans see her. In other words never having met her their view inevitably lacks depth. It wasn't a "bum" statement. It was perfectly fair and reasonable. comment.
I'm deeply concerned about the way he said "You go a second or third time [...] because you got something out of it" Especially given his reputation... What favours was the Queen doing for him behind closed doors??
She was on maternity leave at the time and LBJ had Vietnam going on at the time so travel, even to Europe might have been a bit dangerous. It was just a wrong place at the wrong time sort of deal.
Wow. Very revealing interview. I got a great sense of the queen and her intelligence, shrewdness, and determination underlying the larger projection of unity. She was a woman that kept the show on the road. I can see that. She worked in her royal duties pretty much until the last few days of her life.
I wouldn’t say she has no power she does a lot of it in reality but doesn’t use it due to risk it could have on the monarchy. Her power was used a few times one particularly in Australia. She’s also had a huge amount of soft power across the world.
As an Englishman who lives in Scotland, I loved our late Queen but she wasn't Queen Elizabeth II, apart from of England and Wales - the reason there is a United Kingdom is because Queen Elizabeth (the first!) of England died childless so her cousin, Mary Queen of Scots son, James the Sixth of Scotland inherited the English throne as well: of course, the first Elizabeth DID cut off Mary's head but James didn't let that stop him. Sorry for being a smartarse!

According to Insider, a former employee told royal author Tom Quinn that "The queen has a soft spot for Americans after meeting Barack Obama who she completely fell in love with - so much so that she has frequently asked her courtiers if they could arrange for him to come to Britain now he is no longer president."
Barack and Michelle Obama joined the world in expressing their sadness over the queen's passing and shared a statement on Twitter saying, "Michelle and I were lucky enough to come to know Her Majesty, and she meant a great deal to us." The bond between the former president and the queen was unique and a testament to their genuine enjoyment of one anothe

I'm an American and generally feel monarchies are absurd and outdated. But losing the Queen was such a tremendous loss for the entire world. Her grace, charm, and dedication was simply unparalleled. Fortunately, we were blessed with 70 years.
It’s absurd to American ideals yes. It isn’t to many countries round the globe. There are more monarchies than republics on the earth.
@@manmaje3596 Be that as it may, that doesn’t make the idea that people are born and anointed by a mythical higher power to lord over people any less absurd.

I'm an American and generally feel monarchies are just as legitimate a form of government and that democracies are inherently weak and lend themselves to populism, civil strife, and division all to easily.
@@aaronfire359 - All western monarchies are in fact democracies, in case you're unaware.
@#JohnnyDeppIsRacist Eh?! Wrong video me thinks!!
"Actual Power" ? Power comes in many forms like grace, tradition, respect, voice, opinion. Oh she had Power in her own way.
Sorry my friend. Her position, by definition, is powerless. She certainly had SYMBOLIC power, sure... but only if she never expressed her actual political convictions. That's not any sort of power I would want.

Queen Elizabeth ii has met at least 13 US Presidents for her life time
Beautiful memories and tribute to the Queen 👑
Who said she didn't have any actual power? She had all the powers constitutionally given to her but she used them in a way that the power didn't feel dominant to the public. So why was LBJ the only President who never met with the Queen? Was it logistics, politics, or that she wasn't a Texan?
He met with Princess Margaret...
She was pregnant and was advised not to travel.
Because of the same reasons Vladimir Putin won't attend Queen Elizabeth II's funeral...
You're too busy fighting a BULLSHT WAR.
She was on maternity leave at the time and LBJ had Vietnam going on at the time so travel, even to Europe might have been a bit dangerous. It was just a wrong place at the wrong time sort of deal.
LBJ? LeBron James?
Wow President Ford dance with Queen, he's good 👸🎼 Amazing Queen met about 13 presidents 🤗
A life of selfless devotion, just an amazing lady. 👑 🇬🇧 👑
