@@petonchiospataponchio366 No she didn’t. She made these remarks during her annual Christmas Day broadcast in 1957, from Sandringham Norfolk. The part where she says “these old islands” is probably a useful clue that’s she isn’t in South Africa. It was Margaret Thatcher that tried to cosy up to the white government in South Africa, and Elizabeth II who stretched the boundaries of impartiality, more than she did at any other time, to pressure Thatcher into not going against the rest of the Commonwealth and their condemnation of the apartheid government.

A day or two earlier she was welcomed to Washington with a ceremony on the White House lawn. She wore a tailored purple suit topped with a matching wide brimmed hat, trimmed in white. President Bush (the first), much taller then she was, spoke at the podium first. He was supposed to press a pedal with his foot when he finished, to adjust the podium electrically to her height. He forgot. So she read her remarks with only the big purple hat visible. The press and late night comedians had a field day with this. Front page news. Dubbed "The Talking Hat" 😁. Wonderful Speech. Still relevant after 31 years.
An amazingly uniting force our Queen was, she was indeed a force for good!
She saw it all in her lifetime. So much wisdom and knowledge regarding everything that has happened during her reign, she was as sharp as ever even at the age of 96.
Loved the speech..she kept it brief and kept it nonpartisan..

Now we actually LISTEN to her powerful words - before, perhaps we didn't listen as much, we knew there would always be more - like the sun was always going to rise the next morning - the Queen was always there.

The day she turned 21, she gave a speech to the people of the United Kingdom saying that no matter how short or long her life would be, she would serve her country or her family. The day her father died, she became Queen of the United Kingdom. Until the last time, she was 95 years old, opening a parliamentary session and her final mission was appointing the Prime Minister at Balmerol Castle. She deserves to be honored, praised, and respected by everyone around the world.
