Life too short for long UA-cam videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
This episode is an edit of some extra bits we filmed when Graham Coxon came to visit for the main video in March 2018. You can watch the main, full-length show here: • That Pedal Show - Grah...
One of the reasons for Graham’s visit was that he wanted Dan to put together a separate pedalboard that he could use for various creative projects: he wanted something portable but versatile; different but familiar; capable of inspiration over complication.
So this episode comprises a quick flick through that board as Graham plugs in for the first time, interspersed with some Coxon gems as you would rightly expect. It’s not a full episode per sé, but loads of people have asked for the extra footage from the day. So here it is…
We are massively grateful to Graham for giving us his time and sharing his insight and experience - what a privilege! Please check out www.grahamcoxon.com and sign up to his newsletter to find out what’s going on in his world.
Meantime, enjoy the video…

I respect and admire lots of guitarists but Graham is the one guy that inspires me to pick up a guitar and just be creative, think outside the box and most of all, just have fun doing it. Blur are a great band, so many layers. Albarn as a pure songwriter is up there with anybody for me (Graham is a fine writer in his own right of course), then Graham's very creative guitar playing with those songs just create something unique. Alex James might also be the most underrated bassist. He had so many great melodic bass line's that somehow blended with Graham's playing perfectly, but in a unique way.
Yep, totally, that band really are more than the sum of the parts. Very special
Lenny Henry Completely agree with everything you’ve said here mate.
Just listened to Oily Water...the guitar and bass parts on that tune are awesome..I remember zoning out to that tune while stoned out of my tiny mind lol!
Almost all the songs from Modern Life is Rubbish just have that special Guitar - bass synergy unlike any other!
Heh yeahh bwoii
I think I speak for everyone here when I say... "Mr Coxon, we F***ing love you!" - thanks for all the tunes & all the inspiration!
...and though *you* won't remember it, I met you in 1995 at the Leadmill (post blur gig aftershow in the small bar), talked about your guitar stickers etc, you were as humble and gracious then as you always appear on video.
What a genuinely lovely humble guy. Certainly not someone who appears up their own arse with a massive ego. A true breath of fresh air.
We just like it when people are authentic. I’ve met guys who do have the massive egos and are totally up their own arse and are just as loveable for it, because it’s genuinely, wholeheartedly them. Mick here. :0)
Always loved Graham’s originality and his eccentricities too.... Love too the way he doesn’t get caught up in the intricacies of imagined perfection and just plays from his heart, his gut and his awesome sense of humour.. Thanks for this TPS
It’s wonderfully liberating isn’t it. Love that man!
I so enjoyed the first one with Graham - this is just spoiling us, thanks all!
Ahhh man No Distance Left to Run gets me every time!
No Distance Left to Run was probably my first real breakup song... such a beautiful, plaintiff piece of music. Such a privilege to hear it in raw form!
Graham's first video really changed the way I thought about playing notes in solos. I like his over all guitar approach
Ours as well, it was like a burden was lifted, just wonderful
@@ThatPedalShow He gave you a Tomorrow Never Knows, revolver revelation.
I’ve played in many bands but never learned the guitar. What Graham said about being in a group and just ‘doing it’ I can relate to. There’s a creativity to coming up with a part that fits free of muso correctness.
Love to listen to Graham play. He never ceases to inspire me
I’ve genuinely just exclaimed “oh my, there’s more!!” whilst on the bus
You didn't
@@Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55he bloody did you know!
@54spatula bloody well did not. I bet he literally spat out his drink too, right?
Stephen Malkums would be a great guy to have on TPS...
So many iconic riffs. What a hero.
Yep, proper hero
That Pedal Show when's Ed O'Brien's show coming? 😁
When he turned on the flanger, everybody watching went "Play it! Play it!...nnn...YES, HE PLAYED IT!" I gotta say thanks, these Graham Coxon episodes have been my favorites.
LURVELY bit of Pressure on Julian with the Palladium there.
Rhubarb & Custard, Mr Coxon, you officially won the internet.
I am soooo glad there's more of this.
'Just had this little extra one stashed away'... Thanks guys, really appreciate the time and effort - Love it even more when your guests demo their boards and get their schwang on.
This was a real treat for the start of the week! TPS is like a giant expression pedal, expressing serious levels of joy, passion and gratitude. Thx and well done.
Yeah! Another great one guys. I love the little guest riff appearances. This time... "All Your Love" at 25.35. Who'd expect Graham to throw in a bit of Bluesbreakers!
In a very particular fashion by the way
Man I love Grahams approach to the guitar. It’s so visceral!
That was bloody great! Thank you Dan and Michael and big, big thanks to Graham - made my day!
My favourite artist/gear interview ever...3 guys talking playing passionately about what we all love (plus parklife)
Coxy is so humble, laid-back and inspiring!
Thanks for more of one of the best shows you’ve done (IMO). Super helpful.
This video is SOLID GOLD. Thank you guys!
YES! Was planning on re watching graham's episode today, perfect timing.
What an awesome extra bit!!! Cheers guys!
Oh shit, another Graham video!!!! You are really spoiling us now chaps, thanks!
What a nice surprise upload! Thank you lads!
Cheers from Croatia!
Graham seems like the kind of guy I just want to hang out with. Awesome! And, I can't wait for my shirt to get here to Tennessee!
FANTASTIC! Graham again...love Freakin Out out the beginning--such a crackin tune! Doing that with band at the moment, and this helps even more...everyone needs the Cali 76--shopping list :) The Grayling suits Graham to a tee. What a treat..great follow up to the first episode..thanks chaps !
Thanks again for the extra episode as hinted!! Brilliant as usual.
YESSSSS! More Graham! Lovely stuff.
Pressure On Julian sounded epic!! Loving this. Thank you, chaps!
The best guitar show & the best guitar player. I could not be happier
We’re pretty happy too - thank you!
One thing that made me love Graham was the inclusion of the chords in the liner notes of The Great Escape. Such a cool thing for a teenager at the time.
THIS. THIS is what i needed to see.
Hadn't realized how much I needed this. Thanks gents.
Truly inspirational guitar player. Thx for the show !
thanks for doing the show graham !
I was grinning from ear to ear when he started the Parklife riff! Awesome....Graham revived my interest in guitar playing after being bored to tears by the endless procession of Yngwie and VH wannabies in the early 90s...Oily Water would have been nice though!
Graham always plays his own talents down, seems very humble. A guitar assassin if you ask me....
YESS! another 33 minutes. thank you!
You’re very welcome - it’s an absolute pleasure doing this stuff!
Man, watched the first video with Graham twice. I didn't listen to blur growing up. I remember hearing Girls and Boys when is was 14 and my best friend convincing my impressionable self that listening to blur was stupid... I forcibly ignored them. I mean forcibly...
... well after seeing the first video, I finally indulged. Fucking hell man... why did I listen to that guy? We're not even friends anymore :p
Thanks for properly introducing my ears guys. You guys are the best.
Just watched this again for the umpteenth time - when he plays 'no distance left to run' brilliant.
AND THEY ALL GO HAND IN HAND, HAND IN HAND THROUGH THEIR...PARK LIFE! DO DO DO DO DO DO DINK, Ten years I had this stuck in my head and its back bigger and better than ever. I always though that Graham was so serious and angry but he is so funny. Great work all. Very enjoyable.
I love Grahams guitar work and I must have tried Parklife a dozen different ways before getting it (sort of) right!
RAUCOUS!!!! Awesome show Gents.
That’s a lot of buttons ... ! That was a fun ride - Graham is one cool dude and an absolute trip. Cool to see/hear a little bit of a non gear guys perspective 2 thumbs up.
Delightful.
Now thats a great video - Love it!!
How not to love that man. It is just lovely and cute and amazing n creative guitarrist. Hopefully some day I will be 1% like him playing guitar
Never really got into Blur when I was younger. Was a teenager at the time that Brit Pop all started, and had recently started playing the guitar, and it was all about Metallica and Pantera for me. Certainly mellowed a little bit now, but never did revisit the stuff that was around at that time. Proper interesting chappie though and some immense sounds!
Wow, I sometimes think that you guys only interview the genuinely most likeable characters in music. Yet another incredibly enjoyable and enlightening show.
It’s Dan. People just love him. :0)
Coxon playing Rhubarb. Made my year :D
Sneaky sneaky, you had a whole other show recorded! A whole other board where he unleashes...what ever sort of animal you release. And RAT NUTTERS. There are an absolute education. I'd love to see way more of that building process with him, seems awesome.
Can't believe there is even more!
It was such a wonderful day, a second Coxon board build, and Park Life! What more could you ask for!!
That Pedal Show literally nothing. Just amazing.
Cool, tones 👍
I've followed Grahams philosophy in my own guitar playing. I never practice a solo idea. We hit record and I just play. 90% of the time we go with my original take. It's the best feeling in the world....I'm useless at working things out by ear after though so I have to get others to transcribe what I did so I can learn it to play live 🤣
the original board rocks to me, and txs for bring "noise" guitar players, thanks to graham too, great
Soooo sick. ..Caveman all the way here! Sounds awesome 👍👍
Graham Coxon plays Otis Rush! Hell yea!
the nutty professor is back ;)
Love this! ❤
Oh man! Metal prejudized (i don’t know if that’s a word, but it makes the point) my musical taste and what I “could” and “couldn’t” listen to for so many years! but on the other hand, it has made me discover a lot of inspiring music as a grown up! Awesome show
Awesome! Get to start my birthday with new TPS! Thanks guys!
And not only is Graham one of my favorite guests for his tone, but now also for his use of the word 'Tobleroney'
Happy birthday Kyle! Hope you have a great one!
That Pedal Show Thanks, gentlemen!
wahey!!! great stuff ..I'm really freakin out
Thanks TPS! I love the way Graham talks about manipulating sound and making music, very intuitive and easy to understand. Also, I wonder if you will do a RAT show one day?
Even though at this point I'll probably never be in a band, guitarists like Graham (another example would be Ed O'Brien) inspire me to keep playing and discovering my own sound. Trying to be Hendrix or Gilmour or Frusciante is a dead end for me, though I've expended many painful hours trying. When I come up with a riff or chord that feels like my own, that's when I can happily play for days.
same
Killer tones all around 👌
Thanks for bringing on alternative players. Very inspiring for me. Still waiting on Ed O. Or if you guys could get Johnny Greenwood somehow. That’d be epic!
California i a love Graham's style. He is crazy out of the box.
That Thorpe sounded massive! And I guess I’ll have to check out a JHS Rat now too. At this point the guys at my music store know me by name because I’m constantly trading stuff cause of you guys.
Is it friday already? i think you summed it up - too cool. Thank you again for this guys, spolied indeed, splendid. To Mr Graham Coxon, cant be long before you get knighted dear sir. PS - "waxing kit" not words i thought i'd hear on this channel.
Muito bom!!!
Graham coxon é sensacional!!!!!
Love graham coxon great guitar player
We all love Graham, what a legend!
Perverse Soloing!
He gave all of us, a Tomorrow Never Knows, revolver revelation. Gee Creativity, and the levity to do it, where have we heard that one before.
TOO COOL!
Wooohooo!!!
Work can do one for half hour! yes!!!
This is the perfect mix of a couple of guys who can perfectly/ nerdy articulate the way pedals affect the sound of a guitar through an amp; juxtaposition a guy that describes things in strictly poetic terms, and also a lot of fidgeting. Lots of fidgeting.
Squier does a Thinline, with the Wide Range hb's, that is another piece of cost effective beauty.Even better if you slap in some of the newer, old school, Lover style reproductions in there.
Christ, and some people still watch TV.....superb all round guys - loved it !
Hiwatts! There have to be some good ones over there you can borrow for a show!!!
Man he is such a creative guitar player ! He also makes me feel better about my own lack of knowledge. Lol
When I was young just knowing The Beatles made it all up with no musical theory...well ...what more do we need to know 😀
Cornerstone of our set for aaaaaages. Lightbulb moment on Parklife. F*** me. Thanks, Gra!
Awesome Jamie - hope it helped!
Dude! Dan here, I nearly lost it when he showed me how to play that tune, can’t believe I got it SO wrong for SO long!
That Pedal Show Ha! I’m just happy that I knew it was in E... Least I got that right! And some of those notes on the later riffs. Couple of small changes makes the whole so much better.
Blur would literally be B L U R without Graham Coxon.
Hey guys, great episode! on a totally unrelated matter... any chance you would do a Trainwreck Express inspired pedal episode? maybe get your hands on an actual Trainwreck amp and compare with pedals inspired by the Trainwreck. I recently bought a Vertex TDrive and I think it is a good OD pedal (not great, but good) but have no idea if it even comes close to a TW amp as I have never played one. Anywho, just a suggestion. Cheers!
+1 for the 'Roobarb' cover.
I’ve got to ask as you sit atop the mountain, guru to the stars. I’m looking for something that approximates the pre-amp on those old echolette gold Ng51 German delay/tape machine. They sound great but the preamp is something special and everyone I’ve come across is in disrepair and/or expensive. Only two repairmen, one in Germany and one in Chicago are adept at getting them up to snuff. The preamp has a warmth and grit that is so smooth even in that sawtooth type of signature. Wondering if you had come across it or if you knew of any builders that had cloned this tube preamp? Check it out on you tube. The gold earlier version is the one that knocks you out. I believe it is the 51. Supposedly used by the Beatles back in the day. What a blast you had this day-Cheers !
Great video! Can you show more alternative pedals for AnalogMan King of Tone in 2018 please? =)
Suhsuh +1 for a 2018 edition of KoT alternatives! I'm particularly interested in the tone shaping capabilities rather than just the gain.
the thorpy cloud pedal is so good the simulation breaks for a second at @4:17
So I was watching a Dweezil Zappa rig overview with Sweetwater today and he said that keeley made a version of the D And M drive for his recent Choice Cuts tour? Have you guys seen/heard that?
No. That’s amazing! And very cool. Mick here. :0)
It’s just after 20:00 on the Sweetwater video. Dweezil has a lot of pedals ( and some amazing sounds) although going into a Fractal set up rather than valve amps so he can manage the onstage volume.
Another Awesome video. Which pedal do you guys prefer the Cali76 or the Slide Rig. I mean I know that you have the Cali76 on your pedal board. Is it a better version than Slide Rig. Can you use the Cali76 to play slide. I want to purchase one of the two pedals just can’t decide which. I love watching you guys and I have been basing all my gear from your shows. Thank you guys
Chad Baglin
Is the Slide Rig basically two Cali76s in one box, a la Lowell George? I might be wrong, but that was my understanding. Mick here. So, all round great compressor, Cali76 Compact Deluxe. Slide specific machine, Slide Rig. I think. They’re both awesome though.
Parklife! Right there! (Yes...I’ve always played it wrong too) 🤔
Any chance of an acoustic episode? Plenty of great pedals for acoustic guitars around these days. I won’t hold my breath 😂
Ok. Not selling my RAT, now. Also not selling triangle Muff.
Thanks TPS & Coxy! I can't make decisions on my own anymore...option paralysis
Which one is the triangle muff
Flynn Hanbury Tenison the Thorpey FX - Fallout Cloud.
@@edparker3549 Yes, To be fair it's a heavily modded version of the circuit. Mine is not so fancy.
Hi Mick ! Hi Dan !
I was wondering, will you ever post a show about QUALITY AND POWERFUL LIGHTWEIGHT PORTABLE GIG AMPS AND CABINETS ???
Something like a little informative show with amps such as Bluguitar (Jennifer Batten, etc), DV Mark (Frank Gambale, etc), Quilter (Dave Herrero, etc) ... and talk about the pros and cons of these pieces of equipment, like the fact that some of these amps can be mounted on the pedalboard together with the pedals placed in front of the amp and the ones inside the loop section of the amp, or the fact that some of these amps may not sound as "good" as their traditional heavy weight back breaking big brothers, etc, etc ... and without forgetting the lightweight speakers and the cabinets they're installed in.
Best regards.
If that’s the last show from where you’ve gotten evicted. You’re my heroes!
Because that was so badass!
Technically we weren’t evicted. We’ve chosen to move rather than soundproof. ;0)
