- Timmeka Eggleton, a Cleveland woman who previously pled guilty to killing her 3-year-old son, has learned her fate.
While appearing in court on Monday morning, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Brendan J. Sheehan sentenced Eggleton to 31-35 years in prison to life.
In addition, she will have to enroll as a violent offender.
“I am very hurt. My whole family is hurt. Baby Curtis was a blessing to all of us, to my family, to my son… She, Miss Eggleton has really damaged our family. He was the love of all of us. He was a joy to all of us. I have a lot of anger in my heart, but God is working with me on this,” said Jeanette Edinburgh, the grandma of the victim, Curtis Lee James Witcher. “So I would like to say that I hope Miss Eggleton has time to think about what she has done because she took something from us that was a joy. I miss his smiles, I will miss his talks, and I will miss him calling me Nana.”

Let's not forget DCFS. The Social Workers' who recommended Curtis return to her and the Judge who granted their recommendation should be held accountable.

1. Not enough social workers
2. Because there are not enough social workers they lower the bar to become a social worker and thus we end up with unqualified social workers.
3. Social Workers are not paid well and thus how do you convince people to take a job where you mostly work with Terrible people (parents) and have to read case files dealing with horrible abuse for 40k a year *AND* put yourself at risk of being sent to prison if you make a bad call?

Curtis Lee James Witcher had been with his foster parents since he was 6 months old and thriving. He had been with them for 2.5 yrs of his 3 yr life.
Timmeka Eggleton killed Curtis just four months after Judge Allison Floyd removed him from his foster parents, who cared for him since he was seven days old and were attempting to adopt him. She abused the system by accusing the foster parents of child abuse.
Floyd determined that Eggleton was fit to retain custody following time spent in an inpatient mental health facility, according to Fox 8. In March of 2023, Judge Allison Floyd terminated supervision and gave Curtis back to his biological mother permanently, even though an attorney hired to represent the child expressed concerns. Four months later, the child was killed.
When speaking to FOX 8, Curtis’ foster parents (who were not identified) shared that they had taken care of the boy since he was seven days old and wanted to adopt him prior to him being given back to the mother.
“Our son should be alive today,” the foster mother told Fox 8. “He brought so much joy.”
Eggleton was just using these children to make money on the welfare system. She was an unfit mother. She should never had any children under her care. So heartbreaking for Curtis and his loving foster parents. Rest in peace, little Curtis.

My heart just breaks for his foster parents. They were his real parents, raising him and loving him. There are too many stories like this. The system needs to start recognizing that reunification is not always in the best interest of the child/family.

You can’t convince me that parenting classes can teach someone how to be a parent - a good one at that. It’s either inside of you or it’s not. It breaks my heart to hear these stories where children are ripped from loving, clean, and safe foster homes and returned to conditions that aren’t loving, clean, or safe - conditions that social workers and judges would never place their own kids in …. But it’s good enough for the child in the system because that’s what they were born into. A person who has had children removed permanently from their home should never have another child in their home. System keeps failing. RIP sweet boy 💙
