I find it really funny how you guys see knives as defensive weapons primarily, rather than tools for daily use. Especially in developed countries like USA. Majority of people aren't going to face a direct assault. Rather than focusing on how one tool can be used in multiple ways to improve daily tasks, my man here slides in and out of weapon use like it's middle of world war 2, in the trenches.

Key word being Man, its a Man thing. A real Man Is always at war even in peaceful times at least in his mind cause he Will not go without fighting when the reaper comes to sorrow at any time. Hard times bring strong men, strong men bring easy times, easy time bring weak men, weak men bring hard times, rinse and repeat. We dont care bout your pourses but Im sure you enjoy your peaceful sleep at night where rough Anonymous men do violence in your behalf for you to have such an undervalued luxury. You Will not understand this or much else, but it is not for you but the ones who will. A real Man gives a damn how you or anyones sees him, he only cares what he see for himself in the mirror, thats why he needs weapons AND tools, not only lots of them, but the very best he can afford ay the same time that price it is not what determines value even when generally the go Hand in Hand. A real Man he himself Is a sword that must be sharpened till the end of Time. In service and respect I humbly dedicate this comment with LOVE to Almighty GOD AND to all my brothers that still fight AND dont surrender to this world of brokeness.

@@nobody-hr1lo 🙏👍👏👏👏 I totally agree. Of this guy is in Europe he's already conditioned to think it's somebody else's (USA) responsibility to protect him. We big bad meat eating animals come on handy when pacifists like this guy destroy their countries by "buh muh feewins"...... Real men, like you say, understand it's their responsibility....because no matter how far someone has their heads in the sand....bad people still exist..... and they're not stopped until a good guy with a "weapon" stop them.

I used to work around horses. The two things on a knife that was invaluable were a serrated edge for cutting rope and a marlin spike for untying knots that were bound up. I was impressed with the partially serrated edge of the One-Handed Trekker (same thing as the Soldier just in black). Unlike a Spyderco that typically has a straight edge at the knife tip like on the Delica 4, Victorinox put the straight edge where you would actually use it, at the base of the blade. I also want to point out that if you hold the knife in your hand with the spine of the main blade pointing up, the liner lock depresses to the right and not the left. I am not a fan of liner locks because on more than one occasion I have accidentally depressed the lock and almost cut myself. However, since the Trekker's lock is the reverse of a normal liner lock I have not had that problem. My only real gripe is I am a woman, and it is a lot of knife. It's big, bulky, and heavy.

I've had a one handed Trekker for probably about 8 years now, oddly enough I've never really bonded with it. Despite looking far more formidable I really dont feel that its capable of much more than the Farmer I carry every day. I'd never baton either one, and if you use it on game cleaning out the liner lock is hell. IMO a mid-sized SAK for EDC, with the addition of either a fixed blade for hunting and bushcraft, or a basic Leatherman when fishing is really the best way to go.

The 111mm make more sense overall as they’re far stronger than the 91mm and the locking blades are safer to use. I have the Sentinel and Trailmaster (Trekker/GAK) but I’m in the market for a Hercules, Workchamp or Skipper. The back spring Philips flips back under pressure and I’ve hurt my hands with it a few times. Needs a lock as it’s useless as is.

My Swisstool hasn't got a cuticle pusher or an orange peeler. Nor my Supertool. I use most everything on them. But we pick among many knife and multitool models for what suits each of us best. Between Victorinox, and Leatherman, the choice is pretty darn good. I do fantasize about a Soldier model with the tin opener replaced with an inline awl, as on the Pioneer. Maybe even locking.
I like the Ranger, and the new liner lock Work Champ, both with files and saws. A bushcrafter must-have!
    Thanks for the review.

Nice and informative video man. What i have found over the years in EDC and as a knife and gear enthusiast, is that you will never find a perfect one tool for all. Ever. So i like to cary two or sometimes three tools to fulfill one another and in case i lose one so i got a backup, but without much of an redundancies, if that makes sense. For me soldier is better, i like the color more, the grip, the serrated blade is more useful in an urban and EDC field. If im in the woods ill have full tang knife anyways. I agree normal blade is better if thats your only blade, but serrated as 2nd one is great. Plus, the dull serrated will always cut better that a dull normal blade. So without serrations you need always to maintain a razor sharp edge. The file on locksmith is great, but if it had scissors instead, it would be a 100% better. When will i use the file, most likely never. So, a soldier as an EDC is better for me, because i carry that small SAK Classic, or a Compact (or both) on which i got scissors nail file and a smaller backup blade(s) with pick, tweezers and a cork. My humble opinions, let me know what you think. Id like that. Sorry for the long comment. Best regards.

Great review! I agree that this is a great 111mm model. However, I choose to carry the Ranger, which is similar to this, but in 91mm, and adds scissors. It's the largest 91mm model that I find comfortable to carry everyday in my pocket. I really like to have a file with me, in case I have to work on metal or plastic. But in general, I use the scissors a lot more than the file. And the 111mm model one bigger than this - with the file and the scissors - well, it's too big, and another downside I perceive is the 111mm uses the same size scissors as the 91mm. So, on balance, I'll stick with the 91mm, and if I know I'm going to be needing to use my knife and/or saw for serious work, I'll bring my soldier as well.

@@Tilbily I am a perfectionist. I always put things to the test and I extensively check, every single detail and in the end, I make a summary. There are the 4 models, that you mostly will hear people, say that these are the best for the outdoors, and that's for a reason. They are indeed the best. The Alox Farmer, the Forester the Outrider and the Rucksack. Actually, the Forester, even though it's the civilian version of the Soldier, it is also the model, that replaced the discontinued Rucksack. Newer models like that, with the liner lock, only advantage they have, is the "robustness", they are built like tanks. On every other single detail, the new ones, fall behind the older models (Carriability, ease of use, cutting-sllicing performance, even ergos, weight and many more). I was suprized, when I saw, that even Ethan Becker, one of the best if not the best outdoor knives designers, carires a Victorinox Rucksack everyday in his pocket. I guess, he also prooves me right! He has said that, on a couple of inteviews.

Seems to be less well known than the Trekker/Soldier, Outrider, Hercules and Workchamp. I agree it's a good toolset. I have a Swiss Soldier like the one you see here, I'm a sucker for tacticool military issue kit. If I wanted a 111mm SAK with a larger toolset though I reckon I'd opt for a Workchamp, as the Locksmith would already be too bulky for pocket carry and the extra layers wouldn't make a difference as a pouch or bag carry.

Mind giving just one example of what kind of emergency car repair you can do with a metal file?

    • @crazyirishmedic9535
      @crazyirishmedic9535 3 роки тому

You could have a bolt with a stripped head so you use the file to cut a grove in the top so you can remove it with a flt head or cut two sides down so they are flat and parallel letting you remove it with an adjustable wrench. You may also have a scavengeed bolt that's to long so you have to cut it down. You could have a metal body panel that gets damaged and is hitting the tire so you need to cut some of it off or remove a sharp edge.

Not to mention just because you have a sak dosen't mean you don't have other tools. I have a basic mecanic tool set in my Jeep but the only file I have is on my sak since while I may need one it's not a commonly needed tool for me so I don't waste the space on it

I would love to have one with blade, wood saw, wood-metal file/saw, that is on the 111 mm series. Basically Ranger Grip 57 Hunter, but with the metal file/saw instead of the gut hook. 1. Opens corked bottles (duh!)

      3. Pry the battery out of a cell phone.
      4. Screw it into a wall and hang your coat on the SAK.
      5. Staple remover.
      6. Smooth out the hole you just made with the reamer.
      7. Clear clogged faucet sprayer.
      8. Bicycle tire valve tool.
      9. Holds the micro screwdriver.
      10. Pick gravel out of tires.
      11. Rip open a blister package.
      12. Ice pick.
      13. Mark a pilot hole.
      14. Clean mud out of shoe soles.
      15. Knot the end of a cord. Thread it through the corkscrew. Handle.
      16. Pop balloons.
      17. Aides in sewing.
      18. Clean mud out of sprinkler heads.
      19. Push used snare wire through it, to straighten out the wire and remove coils or kinks.
      20. Pulls the drain plug out of a tub.
      21. Open the corkscrew and screw it tightly into a broomstick-thickness stick. Now open the blade. Tie it securely. Survival spear for fishing.
      22. Hang the SAK from a piece of cordage from the ceiling. Plumb bob (I have the middle of the handle marked on one mine).
      23. Corkscrew + a metal lid = a filter or wire mesh for cooking.
      24. Carry a chunk of C4.
      25. Pull frozen shoestrings tight, or help loosen them.
      26. Helps get the innards out of a squirrel.
      27. Gets the candle stub out of a candle holder.
      28. Start fights on multitool forums.
      29. Remove the fuel filter from a lawn mower.
      30. Although the new corkscrews are 4 turns, you can use them for range estimation.
      31. O-ring remover for your flashlights.
      32. Pry out partially-exposed nails.
      33. Tighten the apron strings on a wrestling ring.
      34. The inside diameter of the corkscrew is 1/4". I'm sure you know what you can do with this.
      35. Open just a small hole in a coconut.
      36. Lift stuck items out of boxes.
      37. Fish the tape out of a clogged VHS tape.
      38. Remove patches from a flintlock gun.
      39. Remove the inside of a shotgun shell, making a blank. Remove the wad and powder too.
      40. If you don't want the mini screwdriver, the corkscrew can hold a ferro rod.
      41. Tap a tree for sap.
      42. Undo zip ties without breaking them.
      ✌️😉

This is a pretty stupid piece of junk.
First, placing the Phillips screwdriver into the center of the body makes it almost unusable, since it can't reach most places where you need it.
Second, making an awl without a sewing hole is just like making a car with no engine. A pure symptom of imbecility.
Third, this product is remarkably poor in tools, particularly for the size.
    Nothing compares to the Swisschamp.
