The best PS subscription I had was for £30 per year. For this I got 2 or 3 Vita games, 2 or 3 PS3, and usually 1 PS4. That really was worth it. I've not been interested over the last few years, too expensive and lots of duff games that I wouldn't play for free.

Unsubscribed from PS plus entirely for the first time in almost 12 years a few months back and it's the best choice I've ever made even if it is a relatively low cost on a month to month basis.
Games coming in and out devaluated the service completely. It was nice collecting the games forming a library to come back to, now what you dont play eventually goes away. You really have nothing. I'll be cancelling when it expires since I buy yearly. Just keeping the basic for online play

An additional concern you didn't mention that I have is that they're starting to remove 1st party games like Spiderman 2018 and Horizon Zero Dawn which I find scummy, I gave them a pass initially for Spiderman since it could've been something to do with the Marvel license but after they removed Horizon it's clear this is intentional by Sony and really devalues the service for me.
I have had PS+ since 2011. The added cumulative value of the PS3, PS4 and vita games made it worth it to pay every year. But now, I keep the basic plan to keep my game saves and vita games active as well as the occasional PS4/5 game such as Tunic. But now it’s looking sparse and after a price INCREASE no less?! Once I’m done kicking through my backlog in a few years, I’ll let it go.

I had a look at exactly how many games are on both Gamepass Ultimate and PS+ Premium. GPU has 430+ console and 250+ PC games for a total of 680+ games on the service while PS+ Premium has 700+, going off of those numbers they are really close but I appreciate those might not be correct. Personally I do think that PS+ is expensive for what it offers but that's just my opinion and you know what they say about those....
Yeah, but it's not all about numbers, it's about the quality and Game Pass Ultimate has more quality games. PS Plus has some good ones too but is chock-full of shovelware, that's why it has such a high number of games.

Great video. I strongly agree with the cable subscription comparison. I had similar thoughts about Game Pass before the PS+ revamp. Value will always be personal. How you engage with games matters. Timing is another factor. This year, FF7Rb has occupied almost all of my gaming time and I have not played much from the catalog. Two years ago, most of my gaming time was on games that came from the catalog because nothing really caught my attention between beating HFW & starting GoWR. It will vary by player. Also important is where do the potential players or the more low key players see value. Knowing this is important to expanding the community which is crucial for the health of the industry.
It was worth it before the price increase and getting it on sale. Since then of course price increase and they don’t let current subscribers get a discount. I got a full year for $90 before everything happen. I’m not sure if I want to renew this year.
The not allowing current subscribers to get a discount is why I let mine lapse for the first time in almost 13 years. Ended up resubbing when the next sale came up, but that is the only way it’s worth it to me.
People keep complaining each month, but I couldn't be happier with the Essential tier list. Each month there's an indie game I like and there's one little fun game for my child. For the price, we have a lot of fun. Premium seems like a great opportunity for PSP and PS2 but for the time been I just keep in the Essential tier.
you know if you just wanted a digital ps5, never planned on buying a single game and just wanted to suck every ounce of value out a premium subscription you possibly could, then it would prolly be worth it for a select few. But honestly, I can't justify anything more than the basic tier because I own everything I want physically.

Honestly 160 for literally the exact same thing they were giving us at 120 really was just a bad idea cause imo it’ll get less people wanting to have premium. Premium if you got money to spare. Extra is perfect for people with no backlog. Essential is for any multiplayer players or if most your backlog is from essential. Then if you dont play online and have a backlog of single player then there is ofc no need for ps plus.
Yeah, I cancelled with the major price increase a few months back and my sub finally lapsed. And I wish I had cancelled way sooner because it made me realize how little I was even using the services features. The only online game I play is FFXIV and that doesn't require Plus, and I barely played any of the PS Plus offerings. If I want a classic game now I'm fine with spending the $10 or whatever to own that title and play it on my own time.
It was one thing when it was just that one Basic tier being sixty bucks a year and that's I r. Another when the Extra and Premium tier was introduced. But with how much the highest tier is now? As most people said here, it's just not worth it at all anymore. Heck someone us including myself willingly let our subscriptions expire in protest to this BS on top of switching over to Xbox's services instead. At least there you could work around their high prices even though it in itself has been messed with in regards to the conversion rate. But at least it's still a thing. Not to mention Nintendo's online service still being the most affordable out of the three to thisbday on both tiers.
PS Plus is opt-in robbery. I don't want to pay for games I don't care about or already purchased a year ago. The price they are charging to access essential features like online multiplayer and cloud saves is insanity. This stuff costs nothing on PC.
I followed through with my declaration back when they announced the price hike-cancelled my sub and let it expire on 6/12. I’ll miss the online component for games by From, but otherwise nothing worth what they want the user to pay.
I probably won't renew my Extra service here at the end of August. All the games like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, Resident Evil and others are games I already played so no idea in doing it again. I mostly use the cloud to save so I don't have to play a game several times to get the different endings to get the Platinum. But downgrading to Essential just to have that possibility I'm not sure are worth it
I did not renew my subscription back in 2023, after Playstation announced the price increase. Followed the game announcements every month since then and up until now there is no urge for me to get back into PS Plus.
You could just buy them if you really want to play them. That's the whole point of a subscription service with rotating games, to give you an idea of what's on offer so you can try before you buy.
I stopped paying for Premium last year, I got a year to try out because I thought we were gonna get way more classic games which was a MASSIVE appeal to Premium. They're now just starting to add more classic games one, but ill prolly just buy them

The ps1 psp and ps2 emulation makes sense but as regards for ps3 they really should get a native backwards compatibility happening where you can insert your own disc and redownload games you once owned. Most of those games don't need remasters and could just be uprendered and increased frame rate. I just hope they don't keep putting ps2 games that were remastered on ps3 on the store if those games can eventually be ported natively or played with ps3 emulated on ps5
It's odd how Sly and Tomb Raider Legends are 480p and Clone Wars looks 1440p. Even Ghost Hunter is a higher resolution than Tomb Raider Legends and Sly Racoon. I hope they actually add uprendering to Tomb Raider Legends and Sly Racoon as they should be uprendering.
I don’t understand why Sony would rather lose existing customers than try to sign new customers to the program. I personally will be letting it expire and not renewing because they don’t allow discounts anymore. Existing customers fall to the wayside. They don’t care.
Since they price increase to ps plus, essential tier didn’t not receive any changes what so ever and extra and premium got some minor additions at best.
Obviously could always be better but with “essential” being a given for me, the extra $5 per month is easily worth it for extra and I usually pick up the premium tier on sale for like half the year so it’s another $1 a month or so to play all the quick little classics that have come out over the last year which I am fine with.
The answer is yes and no. If you don't play many games it's probably not worth it, but if you are like me and play lots and lots of games then definitely yes, I have premium, and if had to pay for all the games I have played it would be a little over $1.000, also I buy my subscription on black fridays for a good discount

I refuse to even get basic service. Refuse. I have a gaming laptop on the go, and a pc for home. I pay $0 a year to get online. And i get free games all the time. Its amazing to me how much money they scammed out of people over the years to be online. I personally donated hundreds of dollars just to be online. The prices that are out right now are downright scummy. $80 a year for basic service is insanity. So my ps4 stays offline for single player only, or free to play stuff. I refuse to buy a PS5. Its not worth it.
I was going to let my PS premium expire since I hate the new price, thankfully i am grandfathered into the old price of 80$. it would've been great if they kept streaming separate to keep the price of premium down or made a tier called Extra Plus Classics, but just like the slow kid in class it seems like they have to group it with the promising kid everyone likes as not to make the streaming service seem undesirable to the mass.
I've had my subscription since ps5 launch. I last bought it almost two years ago at a steep discount and satisfied with it, but haven't nearly played or used it a lot. I like my cloud saves and game trials. The games I personally own that are in the service, I don't have to switch disks for. Not renewing in November at this price.
The fact that they sometimes remove games just to add them again a couple of months later like RDR2 & Far Cry 4 and say they're "new" additions... The Day 1 releases are all indie games and aren't really interesting for me too... For Premium members and certainly for that price, they should release at least 1 or 2 AAA games on Day 1
If you're not gonna emulate. Get a PS3 the store is still open And some games you can buy will carry over to your the PS4/PS5 like Legend of dragoon and cheaper
I've never played multiplayer games, and I can still use my PS3 for legacy support. The ONLY feature I use with Plus is cloud storage for saved game data backup. I could just as easily move them to USB for PS4 games, but that doesn't exist for PS5 for some reason. I wish they'd offer that as a native feature or a standalone fee. With the price increase, I no longer see the value and will cancel when it expires.

I just got a PS4 Pro and decided to check this out - I have a gaming PC so I will stick to that for multiplayer and buy physical for my PS4 which is just a 4k machine in my living room for casual single player games
I don't play multiplayer and although i already own a lot of the ps1 games its nice having upgraded versions of them, sucks having classics at the premium price tho
I played, beat, and or platinumed 20+ games in 1 year for less than $80. So it was 1000% worth it for me. The only people this isnt worth it for is the gamer bros who only play 1 game like COD or sports games.

Premium costs $190 a year in Canada. Maybe some people think its worth it but I just feel like its way too steep for what they offer. I wish it was closer in price to Game Pass. I'd rather just buy the games I want when they are on sale than get everything for way more money.
I didn't renew because of the price increases. However, I also have a PC which I spend most of my time on which was a factor in my decision as well. The Extra catalogue is also padded out with old Ubisoft/EA titles and random anime games. I think a 3 month subscription is awesome for someone who has just bought a ps5 and wants to get caught up on some of the big releases like ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Tsushima, etc. After that, it becomes less valuable imo.
what i do is pay for the 3 month plan and i have the premium plan i can get and see why people dont need it or require ps plus in general but for me in my opinion i do feel like i got what i payed for especially the streaming feature because i dont really like having to delete a game just to start a new game i want to play so this helped a lot and for payments wise i pay then remove my payment method because there are times when i dont feel the need of it because i dont have time to play as much but if i know i got time the next coming months then i pay for it etc but overall i do enjoy it and i understand and do see why people dont like it and have unsubscribed from it

Extra was cool before the price increase as the library felt alot more fair with additions of a nice range of games Post price increase its way worse value though. Especially as they didn't really lean into adding more recent releases

Great video. I strongly agree with the cable subscription comparison. I had similar thoughts about Game Pass before the PS+ revamp.
Value will always be personal. How you engage with games matters. Timing is another factor. This year, FF7Rb has occupied almost all of my gaming time and I have not played much from the catalog. Two years ago, most of my gaming time was on games that came from the catalog because nothing really caught my attention between beating HFW & starting GoWR.
It will vary by player. Also important is where do the potential players or the more low key players see value. Knowing this is important to expanding the community which is crucial for the health of the industry.
It was worth it before the price increase and getting it on sale. Since then of course price increase and they don’t let current subscribers get a discount. I got a full year for $90 before everything happen. I’m not sure if I want to renew this year.
The not allowing current subscribers to get a discount is why I let mine lapse for the first time in almost 13 years. Ended up resubbing when the next sale came up, but that is the only way it’s worth it to me.
They really need to let us backup saves on USB like we did on PS4. Putting backups behind a paywall is terrible.

People keep complaining each month, but I couldn't be happier with the Essential tier list. Each month there's an indie game I like and there's one little fun game for my child. For the price, we have a lot of fun. Premium seems like a great opportunity for PSP and PS2 but for the time been I just keep in the Essential tier.

Maybe I’ll subscribe to essential again on the next days of play because $60/yr for a bunch of games seems pretty decent. Extra/Premium though? Hell no, I hate being rushed to play a game. I realized after a year of paying for Premium that I actually like just really taking my sweet time and replaying games.
You will pay 60 dollar per year just for 2-3 games u will receive monthly whereas Xbox gamepass ultimate with 70 dollar per year is giving 400+ games catalogue with many triple a titles and also ea plus subscription too don't you think sony is robbing playstation users?
The gamepass value is better for sure, but I also don’t care. I don’t play ea games. For triple aaa games those I just buy eventually when they end up being like $10 in GameStop. Honestly 160 for literally the exact same thing they were giving us at 120 really was just a bad idea cause imo it’ll get less people wanting to have premium. I currently have premium but I might downgrade cause it’s just way too much especially considering they took away the deals for Black Friday and stuff which was just downright dumb and it just rubbed me the wrong way🙁

Essential is for any multiplayer players or if most your backlog is from essential.
Then if you dont play online and have a backlog of single player then there is ofc no need for ps plus.
Yeah, I cancelled with the major price increase a few months back and my sub finally lapsed. And I wish I had cancelled way sooner because it made me realize how little I was even using the services features. The only online game I play is FFXIV and that doesn't require Plus, and I barely played any of the PS Plus offerings. If I want a classic game now I'm fine with spending the $10 or whatever to own that title and play it on my own time.

It was one thing when it was just that one Basic tier being sixty bucks a year and that's I r. Another when the Extra and Premium tier was introduced. But with how much the highest tier is now? As most people said here, it's just not worth it at all anymore. Heck someone us including myself willingly let our subscriptions expire in protest to this BS on top of switching over to Xbox's services instead. At least there you could work around their high prices even though it in itself has been messed with in regards to the conversion rate. But at least it's still a thing. Not to mention Nintendo's online service still being the most affordable out of the three to thisbday on both tiers.
PS Plus is opt-in robbery. I don't want to pay for games I don't care about or already purchased a year ago. The price they are charging to access essential features like online multiplayer and cloud saves is insanity. This stuff costs nothing on PC.
I followed through with my declaration back when they announced the price hike-cancelled my sub and let it expire on 6/12. I’ll miss the online component for games by From, but otherwise nothing worth what they want the user to pay.
I probably won't renew my Extra service here at the end of August. All the games like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, Resident Evil and others are games I already played so no idea in doing it again. I mostly use the cloud to save so I don't have to play a game several times to get the different endings to get the Platinum. But downgrading to Essential just to have that possibility I'm not sure are worth it
I did not renew my subscription back in 2023, after Playstation announced the price increase.
Followed the game announcements every month since then and up until now there is no urge for me to get back into PS Plus.

You could just buy them if you really want to play them. That's the whole point of a subscription service with rotating games, to give you an idea of what's on offer so you can try before you buy.

It's not worth it, I remember when having playstation plus was 39 dollars, just online gaming, now I pay $70 a month and get 3 random games that may or may not be for me
The ps1 psp and ps2 emulation makes sense but as regards for ps3 they really should get a native backwards compatibility happening where you can insert your own disc and redownload games you once owned.
Most of those games don't need remasters and could just be uprendered and increased frame rate.
I just hope they don't keep putting ps2 games that were remastered on ps3 on the store if those games can eventually be ported natively or played with ps3 emulated on ps5
It's odd how Sly and Tomb Raider Legends are 480p and Clone Wars looks 1440p. Even Ghost Hunter is a higher resolution than Tomb Raider Legends and Sly Racoon. I hope they actually add uprendering to Tomb Raider Legends and Sly Racoon as they should be uprendering.

Since they price increase to ps plus, essential tier didn’t not receive any changes what so ever and extra and premium got some minor additions at best.
Obviously could always be better but with “essential” being a given for me, the extra $5 per month is easily worth it for extra and I usually pick up the premium tier on sale for like half the year so it’s another $1 a month or so to play all the quick little classics that have come out over the last year which I am fine with.

The answer is yes and no. If you don't play many games it's probably not worth it, but if you are like me and play lots and lots of games then definitely yes, I have premium, and if had to pay for all the games I have played it would be a little over $1.000, also I buy my subscription on black fridays for a good discount

I refuse to even get basic service. Refuse. I have a gaming laptop on the go, and a pc for home. I pay $0 a year to get online. And i get free games all the time. Its amazing to me how much money they scammed out of people over the years to be online. I personally donated hundreds of dollars just to be online.
The prices that are out right now are downright scummy. $80 a year for basic service is insanity. So my ps4 stays offline for single player only, or free to play stuff. I refuse to buy a PS5. Its not worth it.

I was going to let my PS premium expire since I hate the new price, thankfully i am grandfathered into the old price of 80$. it would've been great if they kept streaming separate to keep the price of premium down or made a tier called Extra Plus Classics, but just like the slow kid in class it seems like they have to group it with the promising kid everyone likes as not to make the streaming service seem undesirable to the mass.
I've had my subscription since ps5 launch. I last bought it almost two years ago at a steep discount and satisfied with it, but haven't nearly played or used it a lot. I like my cloud saves and game trials. The games I personally own that are in the service, I don't have to switch disks for. Not renewing in November at this price.

The fact that they sometimes remove games just to add them again a couple of months later like RDR2 & Far Cry 4 and say they're "new" additions... The Day 1 releases are all indie games and aren't really interesting for me too... For Premium members and certainly for that price, they should release at least 1 or 2 AAA games on Day 1
If you're not gonna emulate. Get a PS3 the store is still open And some games you can buy will carry over to your the PS4/PS5 like Legend of dragoon and cheaper

I've never played multiplayer games, and I can still use my PS3 for legacy support. The ONLY feature I use with Plus is cloud storage for saved game data backup. I could just as easily move them to USB for PS4 games, but that doesn't exist for PS5 for some reason. I wish they'd offer that as a native feature or a standalone fee. With the price increase, I no longer see the value and will cancel when it expires.
I let my PS Plus expire some time ago. Other than one month trying an online game out, I haven't been back. Don't really miss it either

Premium costs $190 a year in Canada. Maybe some people think its worth it but I just feel like its way too steep for what they offer. I wish it was closer in price to Game Pass. I'd rather just buy the games I want when they are on sale than get everything for way more money.

I didn't renew because of the price increases. However, I also have a PC which I spend most of my time on which was a factor in my decision as well. The Extra catalogue is also padded out with old Ubisoft/EA titles and random anime games. I think a 3 month subscription is awesome for someone who has just bought a ps5 and wants to get caught up on some of the big releases like ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Tsushima, etc. After that, it becomes less valuable imo.
what i do is pay for the 3 month plan and i have the premium plan i can get and see why people dont need it or require ps plus in general but for me in my opinion i do feel like i got what i payed for especially the streaming feature because i dont really like having to delete a game just to start a new game i want to play so this helped a lot and for payments wise i pay then remove my payment method because there are times when i dont feel the need of it because i dont have time to play as much but if i know i got time the next coming months then i pay for it etc but overall i do enjoy it and i understand and do see why people dont like it and have unsubscribed from it

I got a PS5 at the middle of June 2024. They had PS plus on sale and I got premium for $112 but I did it because of the price might as well. But I'll probably downgrade for extra after this yr is up. I'm not a huge gamer so having the games for "free" it's nice to have alot of games to play
