Battle Aces ► Is It TOO Simple..?

- I've been checking out the Battle Aces Beta recently and have had a lot of fun so far! But it's very different from a ''Core'' RTS. Does it have the potential to be the next revolutionary genre or is it a bit too simplistic?

Worst-case scenario for this game is probably as side-game that you can play for 20~40 minutes everyday, and feel good about it. It's a lot more fun than I expected.
The game is really awesome and fun honestly. Totally different experience than classic rts, but a fresh new take.
I see room for both this and stormgate.
I think most RTS games nowadays misunderstood what the *"S"* meant in real time _strategy._
"I think it's trying to do with RTSs what the DotA mod did with MOBA games." ...What? That doesn't make sense. DotA was a mod on an RTS (WC3) that spawned the MOBA genre.
Anyway, thanks for the peek into Battle Aces! You're right -- it's certainly unique, and I think it will appeal to a lot of people. Personally I'm still focused on Stormgate :D
I think what he was saying was that DotA is a trimmed down version of RTS, just like this. The difference is that DotA focuses on heroes, and Battle Aces focuses on troop control.
I think it most closely resembles footman frenzy rather than dota. If only it wasn't owned by Tencent.
I was confused too. But I think where he was trying to go with that is saying that this is doing for unit-based RTS like Starcraft what DotA was trying to do for the hero element of WC3.
Maybe I messed up my phrasing here , but what I was getting at is that DotA spawned an entire new genre of game by trimming down the RTS experiencing and focusing on the hero aspect of it. In the same manner, Battle Aces may be looking to spawn a new genre of it's own for the younger generation by focusing on micro/strategy.
@@Stormgate_Central Gotcha!
I got into the beta and man it is better than I was expecting. It is very addicting and 2v2 has been a ton of fun. I wish there were more starter units so that you actually have choices to make at the start though
It seems like a game I could enjoy intensively for about a month, exploring different combinations and counters. However, it doesn't appear to have enough depth to be a "main" game for an extended period. I can see it being fun to play with friends occasionally tho.
A good warmup for other rts too haha
I agree with your take on it feeling like a mirror match up. I hope they spend some lengthy time reinvesting in the art direction of the "MANUFACTURERS" as they put it on the site.
I played the beta of AOE4, srormgate and now Battle aces. And I can say that by far the one I enjoyed the most was Battle aces. The game is simple but not too much. And I dont need to waste a lot of time in each match to get to the fun part. I am a casual player and I didnt need to learn and práctice a lot of build orders to start enjoying it. I dont feel anxious playing 1v1 because even if I lose I dont feel fustrated like in a long AoE4 game to lose after half hour suffering. In SC2 I got Diamond with terran after like 400 matches but I quit so many times due to cheeses, mass Carriers, and all the bs. This game is the most fresh and entertaining RTS that I played recently. I backed srormgate but I am liking more what these guys did.
I've had a LOT of fun with the beta... but the more I play, the more I'm seeing limitations (even just in unit selection). I think perhaps more maps, and game modes, will be super important going forward.
feels like cnc rivals.
I'm simultaneously impressed by the polish and creativity of this game, and turned off by the lack of base building. I really like macro in RTS and taking basically all of that away doesn't do it for me. I haven't played it yet, though, so maybe I would like it more than I think. One thing I will say is I think I would be more drawn to it in a team mode to play with friends.
So there is a 2v2 mode, although I haven't tried it yet but I've heard that you end up with so many units on screen at once it's like 2 blobs fighting one another.
@@Stormgate_Central is it on the same map? That's too bad it gets so blobby. I was hoping having more space and more people would lead to more splits and interesting push and pull all over the map.
@@paradachshund I was also worried about that, but it tends to work really well in practice (even in 1v1) because so many of the strong units are melee/short range (much like Stormgate), and strong AoE damage is accessible. Unit production is also instant, but most units are slow so you end up naturally splitting your army to fight in 2~4 fronts while trying to do run-bys on the side.
@@eduardoserpa1682 That's interesting about the units being slow. I hadn't thought about that. It did seem kind of wild production was so instant, but I get they have to speed things up a lot to fit in 10 minutes.
Battle Aces might be a fun diversion for existing RTS players but I don't think it's going to attract a new crowd.
A lack of factions will make games feel samey and means the differentiations will be in the cosmetics they will likely sell which can lead to more and more complex cosmetics which makes the game harder to parse for new players.
Also, having to unlock units in a competitive game is a nogo. It did not work for C&C4, it did not work for DoW3.
It doesn't matter if the units are all theoretically balanced. Losing to something they can't even choose is going to hard bounce people off the game.
Finally, I suspect the time limit and pace of the game means it won't take as long for players to start to get that "every game is the same" feeling.
Time will tell though. And ultimately I am just excited so many RTS games are coming out in the next year or so.
I think it’s good for a certain audience, and definitely want it to do well… but it’s probably not a game for me. Though I may give it a shot in the future.
I think this game has the potential to add complexity in the form of different and unqiue game modes.
Looks fun ill definetively try itbut i feel like not having buldings is not great
I think the overall 'rapid-fire' design is interesting, but it will require comeback mechanics.
Even in fighting games, you can be at 100% HP vs an opponent with 1% HP and still lose.
If we added factions, that could be one interesting way to add diversity.
David Kim finally manage to create a game he can compete in himself
much more fun 1v1 than stormgate for me wich is the only mode i care about
The way the game looks reminds me a bit of tooth and tail, another trimmed down RTS. Some key differences of course. I imagine I will have some fun with the game! I don't think it will be replacing the grander more complex RTS for me but it doesn't have to do that to be enjoyable.
Seems cool but muh buildings :( ... I will probably still play a bit or use this to get more friends into rts :)
Fighting game of rts ! ❤
clash or rumble rts is what I say
looks fine, but i'm looking for the co-op mode more specifically. This game probably won't be for me due to that.
I agree, the unit unlocking is the biggest issue so far. Very fun though
Lol no no way
Battle Aces' art style is so much better than Stormgate. But I don't see how it could have long term appeals like interesting pve contents.
Seriously, Vanguard and Inferno are some of the most boring yet impractical unit designs in all RTS games.
Is It TOO Simple..? >>>> Yes and too fast.
RNS= REAL NOOBS STRATEGY
Its more fun then Stormgate :D
Lol no too lame
Battle aces feel the best to play in all the new rts. Significantly better than SG, it's fast, it got positioning and harass etc. Different decks can feel extremely different in playstyle etc. So much more diversity, even if some units are meta build
You didn’t play Aoe 4 then…
@@haakonglindtvad5489 I did play AoE4 but I was always a bigger fan of AoE2. only casual though
Isnt this a glorified clash royale
They said they were making an RTS without bullshit, but this is an RTS without anything. The outcome of the game is way too easily decided. One mistake 2 minutes in and it's over. Don't play rock paper scissor right with your decks and it's over. The opponent having an additional base for one minute and the game just ends. Game design just leaves no space for depth so there is no weight to winning.
"what league of legends and dota did with the MOBA genre"?????????????
Dota and LoL ARE the MOBA genre...
Love your content but not BA.😂 looks boring AF. This is not an rts at all
It's just a fast food RTS for people who fucked their brains after mass consumption of tik tok, shorts and reels. And of course David Kim is behind this, the game smells David Kim.
Nice boomer take. No worries, the future is here with or without your blessing 🦀
As if you need ADHD to lose interest in facing turtle into carrier every other match.

soo this is pretty much a copy of Warhammer 3 and as we all know Warhammer 3 was the worst RTS game ever, Warhammer dawn of war was the best, because we can build, dawn of war 2 was kindof good, This RTS looks like dog trash i hate Robots in RTS feels sooo boring and lazy make some cool units/ races this looks like a phone game
