I've always done it like this when tightening up guitar tracks, but I had no idea you could overlay the waveforms! That's gonna save me some time, thanks!

Dom, this is a GREAT set of tools, and I've used them for years, but oddly, Steinberg made this harder I think from version 11 to 12. In version 11, the waveforms were actually transparent so you could see all the transients of both selected tracks. It made lining up vocal harmonies so easy and fast. After the change, if one track is louder than the other, you can't see the waveforms to correct it. You can see this demonstrated really well around 11:01 of this video. If you have contacts at Steinberg, PLEASE ask them to fix this, at least add a transparency option to the editor window. Great video otherwise, thank you!
Transparency adjustment would be great. Even better would be something like the difference layers in photoshop, so where the waveforms overlapped was a 3rd colour

I’ve been doing this for years. Thought it was kind of a secret trick I came up with being super ocd but yes creative and human as well. Very nicely explained as always Dom!!! You’re a great asset to anyone using Cubase. It’s still the best DAW after 25 years of me working with it.
Great video, thanks, Dom! If you allow, I can add couple thoughts to this.
1. If before free warping you go to hitpoints, adjust them a bit (in this paticular case less hitpoints is better, threshold something around 10% works), and click Create warp markers from hitpoints - it will save you time. You don't have to auto quantize it after, but when you will do free warping most of warp markers will be already placed, so you won't have to create them, especially at the end of a note.
*I purposely don't tell about auto quantize, assuming, that this was not the topic of this video.
2. When alligning 2 guitars, doing it in event editor is ok, but when working with vocal harmonies it is much better to use warping in project window, cause in this way, you don't have to reopen event editor for each separate vocal take, you can see and adjust all vocal takes at one time.
I get, that as an old hardcore cubase users we did not get used to that feature, since cubase introduced it only in 2022 (and it was bugging at first for couple months), but now it is really a great time and energy saver, especially when dealing with vocal harmonies.

This is great, what a time saver! The wav selection seems to be the oposite in C11. However, you can use the same idea when using Variaudio with doubled vocals and harms, you can see right away 'who is out'. Fantastic.

The question: for what reason they (Steinberg) changed transparency of the waveform? In early versions I could see underlaying wave through upper one.

The best feature I wasn't aware existed though is that you can overlay two audio tracks. I know you could overlay MIDI.

You know what I have noticed about professional engineers that have a home studio? They all work on 1 monitor. Dom, if you see this comment can you please tell me why? I have watched countless UA-camr's, taken classes online from popular engineers. 1 monitor. Is there something to this? Does it reign in your focus?
By the way, you and Guy Michelmore are the reason I own Cubase, and I love it. Thank you for all the work you do to teach us.
What about correcting the more complex notes and using the audio alignment tool on the rest?
great tip again Dom! I am a fairly newby in cubase (and audio in general). So (too) much to learn. But those slight tips certainly helps
always learning something new! this info is invaluable. hopefully, the computer can handle what i throw at it with this new knowledge for creative purposes 😂
Is the quality the same as you would cut the parts and move them at the right spot?
If you have too many audio cuts (without proper fades), it might have a lot more audible clicking and popping sounds

so proud of myself I discovered it by my own and use it for many years;)
I use my AMFG SysTune measurement Programm for time/phase alignment, a bit OTT but I have the program anyway for system tuning, by far the best results, especially for bass/sub corrections, but Sound Radix are nice for active real time correction too, depends,as always, on the project needs

Hi Dom,
If I may, to save a bit of time, automatically detecting warp markers can speed things up a bit. Above all, this allows you to already have markers placed behind the elements that you need to move. I don't know if you know what I mean ;) I have a shortcut for this and it's very handy.
Fantastic, Dom. I did it on Cubase Artist 13 and don't recognise the button for prioritising tracks. Also discovered that you need to make sure that Clip Editing Mode is set to Active Clip.
Is there a difference in soundquality when you stretch the (the cutted) regions in stead of IN the regions time warping?

I see you updated your monitors they say the ATC's are great but don't have enough bass is that correct or do you have a subwoofer with them? I was looking at those or a pair of PMC's.

what about the way faster auto alignment function in Cubase?
If there are timing issues in the performance of the track you use as reference, it won't work that well. However, after doing what Dom does in this video, you could bounce the changes and then use the auto alignment function to sync the guitars even further.
Problem is when transients are not that clear to be identified by the algorithm.

@@grahamrevans I discovered the problem. There is a setting called "clip editing mode" in the top bar of the editor. It has to be set on "active clip". Mine was set on "all clips".

To achieve better result I play left and right guitar with one attempt, then split one shot into 2 parts L and R. If I record 2 parts with a pause in between, then I get more and more discrepancies

Hi bro..I usually record using Cubase 5 on a computer that is still Windows 7...and I copied all the data to all data and external...then I installed Windows 10 again, all my recording files on Cubase 5 were all gone... How to restore the recorded data...please explain

if i do that my audio-warping affects BOTH layers simultaneously. what am i doing wrong?
2 panels to the left of where you choose your first Clip to be shown up front you can change from "all clips" to "single clip" for customization. would have been great to seen that in the video... my default cubase settings must be different. would have saved me 30 minutes of my life
It warps both parts, if I highlight both and hit enter it warps just one but only for the first click then the second warps the second file too and if you try to hit enter each time then it goes back to main window, it just doesn't seem consistent no matter what I do

Just upgrade to Cubase Pro 13 and must be doing something wrong.. After selecting the first part, hover over the second part, while holding comand, my arrow becomes a scissor? Does anyone knows what I’m doing wrong..

Note - you will want your clip editing mode set to "active clip" else you'll go insane.

@@christopherortiz5527 he was fixing timing issues. The quickest way to do that is to get a great take. If that's not possible then building a frankenstein is the next best.
