I love the intended parallels between the life and death situations in the movies, to your "journey" to getting cereal at the supermarket during the pandemic.

Second little suggestion for software improvement: The new tab at the bottom of Campfire Pro with the graphical symbols to quickly switch between the various sections is nice and all - but please provide an option to disable the panel when needed. It's constantly blocking information I've placed at the bottom of the screen, and I can't scroll down there without placing even more panels further down below. ;)

There actually is an option to auto-hide the toolbar or get rid of it entirely! If you go to Campfire -> Preference, you should find the options under "General." You may need to update to the most recent version which you can do here: www.campfiretechnology.com/pro/download-pro/

I find it really odd that I can't copy and paste timelines in Campfire Pro. I would love to implement the Hero's Journey template into the file of my story, and have several instances of that template in the file for each of the individual books of the series, plus one overarching one. With the way it's currently set up, I need to create a separate Campfire file for each "book" just for the Hero's Journey part, while the main story file uses the Timeline section as the outline for the plot, i.e. chapter by chapter. Since one of the main goals of Campfire Pro seems to be to reduce the necessity of having multiple files leafing around for everything, *the ability to duplicate, copy, and paste events or whole timelines from one story file to another would be a nice addition!* ;)

I've got a small question: When you say "chapter #" it is only like a part of the story and not an actual whole chapter, right? For example for chapter IV, it is about the test, the allies, and the enemies, but that all doesnt happen in one chapter in a book but in separate chapters...

Correct! I've just broken the distinct steps of the Hero's Journey down into chapters. Some steps will take multiple chapters, and some steps might only be a minor part of a chapter!

I have 2 question. Could you have the ordeal in the first act (second chapter) where the MC get badly hurt and learn a imported lesson? And when the MC learn to be a hero could you do it that from her point of view she is a hero, even though the reader might (strongly) disagree?

    • @AroundTheCampfire

If you have an "Ordeal" that early, it would probably function as a "Call to Adventure." They could have a crisis early on that forces them to take their journey. Plus the Ordeal is a very personal step, so we want the audience to be well aquainted with our protagonsit before it happens. That's a little hard to do in chapter 2.

Campfire Technology Ok but I though about that during the end of chapter 1, there was a twist were the MC did go against her father/leader. Because she want to get as good as possible no matter if she get hurt.

Geoff Wilson What I was thinking was that she wants fulfill her potential as much as possible even if she gets badly injured. And what I was thinking of her father was that he is a great leader/father of the nation but not as good as a family father. But he still would not his children too much.

Campfire Technology But what about my second question then do you have any tips?

@@didsva If I understand your question, you are concerned whether an audience will maintain interest in your MC's journey if she's not traditionally heroic. Ultimately, your objective should be to make her hero's journey as compelling as you can. That doesn't require her to make all the right choices along the way, or to even be likable for that matter. Villain protagonists and anti-heroes are popular for a reason; flawed characters generate more drama. If she makes too many foolish or morally questionable choices, it may be harder for an audience to put up with her decisions. However, if her worst actions stem from relatable traits and desires, even negative ones, your audience may find themselves empathizing despite disagreeing with her choices. If you want her to be likable despite not holding to traditional heroic values, make sure she has plenty of admirable qualities to balance out her bad ones. Even terrible people usually have some positive trait such as ambition, charisma, intelligence, etc. I think one of the best traits you can give to any character to make them more likable, particularly non-heroes, is some level of self-awareness. Let your hero stop and reflect on her actions, debate where she may have gone wrong. She doesn't necessarily have to come to the right conclusion, but by showing the audience she's conscious of her actions and their consequences you give her a leg up on many more obnoxiously narrow-minded characters in fiction (and real life).
