GP60M 157 and GP60B 342 survived the wreck, repair, repainted and return to service hauling the freight and still operates today in the BNSF Colors.
On December 14th, 1994, Union Pacific Coal Train has just came down the Cajon Pass and stop at milepost 61.55 on Cajon Subdivision waiting at the signal for another train clear the line. The Coal Train had 3 engines on headend with C41-8w 9450 leading and 2 helpers in the back were SD40-2s 3341 and 3354. Behind UP Coal Train was Santa Fe Doublestack Train which had B40-8w 576 in the lead, FP45 96, F45 5976 and GP60M 144 with the load of Doublestack Container Cars. As a Union Pacific Coal Train waits at the Signal to proceed, the crew hears something on the radio that makes a cold blood run.

But even though a train hasn't runaway on the pass thx to positive train control along with braking systems to stop leaks I myself and dozens are wondering, have we seen the last runaway train? I'm praying we won't ever have another one in the future.
*Is no one goinv to mention that the radio conversations are re-enactments and that **_they were taken directly from Thunderbolt 1000 Siren Productions?!_* 😐🤦♂️
Well thunderbolt 1000 Siren Productions did help us getting the information in 1994 crash with the radio saying "helpers get off your train, you got a train coming in your way, Santa fe cajon dispatcher to Santa fe 576 west over" that he did gave that information in his video
good thing there hasn't been a runaway on Cajon pass in the past 23 years. there were a few more train wrecks years after this happened but thankfully none that serious of the wrecks have happened since 1996 hopefully thanks to ptc and automatic brakes and well there won't ever be another wreck this bad on Cajon pass
Ironic that the brakeman and conductor died bailing while the engineer survived. Bailing from a locomotive onto a rocky rail bed at 50 mph is a no win. Sad.
Well today marks the 26th anniversary of the second cajon pass runaway and hopefully with ptc installed on trains today and other things to help prevent runaways hopefully a runaway on cajon pass won't happen a fourth time.
