She married young, had two babies really quick into her marriage and then had an affair with another man. She killed them because she didn’t want to be tied down anymore.

I'm with the Sheriff on this. Just because someone has problems does not mean that she is not criminally responsible for these atrocious crimes. She was well aware of what she was doing at the time when she rolled her car into the lake. She was well aware of the awful truth when she made up a story about a Black stranger. She was well aware that her sons were dead when she publicly pleaded for their safe return. She was just plain mean & evil. I suspect that she still is all of those things today.

The law changed so that life means life.

Why isn't life in prison, life in prison? Her children's lives were taken away from them and she is up for parole????? Rip Michael and Alex. I think her new love interest wasn't interested in kids and that sealed their fate. Prayers for David Smith and his family.

Life in prison should mean just that.

@@mainecoon6514it should mean exactly that however when she was sentenced it was life with parole after 30 years. However the laws have changed in SC since this

A complete stranger seeing two babies in a car sinking in the water would have saved these kids. This woman needs to be permanently separated from society. Keeping her in prison will protect the public, as it's intended to do.

Cold hearted? Mentally ill? She cared more about her pocketbook than her kids… she had her pocketbook when she knocked on the door asking to call the police.

Reality check or not, Susan Smith should be released. Maybe not in the Union community . But somewhere in California would be nice. She can finally tell her side of the story, make a movie (or documentary). Get her fame and glory. And maybe make some $$$$ on her own without the help of a sugar daddy or a P. Diddy. She can even be a fortune teller predicting the future, California has a lot of carjacking and child abductions. If she can at least get her 15 minutes of fame out of California before returning back to Union South Carolina, that would make a big difference in her life. "A would have been life" is what she NEEDS. Hopefully this will help clear her head and her beliefs.
