  • There are really good places for Brown Trout and there are really good places for Pike but very often both species exist on the same place therefore, having a fly that works for both can be phenomenal. In this video, I will show you a fly that has been working really good in those scenarios, especially at night.
When fishing this fly, I prefer to use a thick hard-mono leader. are use the dimensions between 1,05-1,2 mm. If I would use a steel wire, I feel I catch less fish, especially trout.
Tjuonajokk is located far up north in Swedish Lapland and offer great streamer fishing for trout and pike.
Trout/Pike Deciever fly in the video:
    Hook: Ahrex SA270 Bluewater 2/0
Thread: Textreme power thread 100 den black
Tail: Bucktail Medium Purple, Flashabou Black
    Head: Craft Fur Black
    Eyes: Stick-On Eyes 7,1 mm - Pearl
    UV resin: Gulff Flexman
My rod setup used in this video:
    Rod: Vision Meri 9´ #9
    Reel: Vision Stillmaniac #7-8
Line: Vision big mama #9 fast intermediate

Awesome fly Robert. I think that this would be a very versatile pattern in fresh and salt.

Nice fish, funny how some fish give up rather easily despite their size, you put the boots to him on that pike rod :)

Fish of a lifetime awesome Video. That fly would work well in Australia for our native Murray Cod and Golden Perch. 🤔 Maybe I’ll try it.

Hi Robert. Nice vid! By the way, you can easily use 0.70-80 for pike. Just change when it gets too many bite marks ;) Then you will probably get even more trout.

I have seen enough people fish with that to say that I don't recommend that thin for pike. It may be something with the place or the pike in these waters and it might not be the same in other places. I have great fishing with thick hard-mono and will not use thin due to the risk of breakoff.

Hi Robert. I checked the Hook and i cant find the Ahrex SA 220 Bluewater in size 2/0. The largest size is 1/0 available. There is another hook named Ahrex SA 280 Saltwater or the third SA 270 Bluewater starting size 2/0. Please be so kind to check what is the right one. Thanks for your kind answer. tight lines from Hamburg Hans-Peter

Just curious, why put flash in a fly fished at night? There's no light to react to the flash, seems redundant. Not having a go, just curious.

    • @FlyFishingbyRobert

I see it more as a synthetic tail material. It is durable, holds very little water, moves a lot and used like this it makes a less transparent fly.

There is no night where this guy fishes. You can fish Kaitum 24 hours straight in the summer.
