  • After my alligator hunt in SE Oklahoma I made the two and a half hour drive over to Lake Ouachita to check another adventure off my bucket list: camping on one of the roughly 200 islands on the lake. Come along to get a taste of what the islands of Arkansas have to offer!

    I just discovered your channel, and I'm loving your videos! Wow, what a beautiful place and it looked like you had a great time! I don't think I would want to leave, so cool to have an island all to yourself! Also enjoyed the fun commentary!

    It’s beautiful there! Next time you should take a little portable fishing pole and try to catch your dinner. It looks like a great place for sand bass.

      That’s actually a great idea! I thought about it but it felt like a lot of pressure my first time out. 😆

    10:05 Yes, that is quartz. The Ouachitas are famous for quartz.

      Do you recall where you parked to access the lake? I have a kayak and hope to do this sometime in the near future. I saw another video where someone camped at a free Army Corps of Engineers location on the far west end of the lake and then paddled out to some islands.

      I parked at the Buckville Recreation Area Campground on the north side of the lake. It’s free first come, first serve camping there.

    Oklahoma 😂 I’m from OK but in AR , I wish I could show you my character ODD BALL and his brother HOMO BALL. Your sense of humor makes me think you might get it.
    I’m about to do some island camping too. Looks awesome. Enjoyed video 👍🏽

      I put in at Buckville on the north side of the lake. It has good access, it’s not hard to get to, and overnight parking is not a problem.

    I camp at lake ouchita often. Where do you park when island parking?

    • @OklahomoHiker
      @OklahomoHiker  6 місяців тому +1

      I parked at the Buckville Recreation Area on this trip, but there are other access points on the lake. I generally just check the recreation areas’ websites to see what is available.

    Thanks for the great video! I'm planning to drive up there from New Orleans at the end of the month (August) for a 4 day canoe camping trip. My goal is to escape the city and oppressive heat. It was so reassuring to see you being comfortable in those conditions. Where did you launch from? I was planning to start at the Buckville public use area. I want to do some fossil hunting on the north end of the lake.

      Buckville was my launch point! It’s a great spot to start an adventure, and there’s a free first come-first served campground there if you arrive late at night and need a place to park yourself before heading out on your adventure.
      Have a great time and tell me all about it on here if the mood takes you!
