Thanks for sharing, John. My top five Schmidt cards are: 5. 1985 Topps All Star. 4. 1983 Topps 3. 1974 Topps. 2. 1976 Topps 1. 1986 Topps. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
Another good video, John. This is a nice series you’re doing. Schmidt has a lot of nice cards, I don’t know if I really have a favorite. Nice story attached to the 76 card, it’s always nice when cards have special memories especially if it’s a memory of your childhood
This is the best video you have ever made, John! 😂 Here’s my list. 5. 1989 4. 1983 3. 1981 2. 1976 1. 1978 1978 was my first year collecting, so I’m a little biased there. Thanks for sharing.
😃 I would have been very disappointed if you hadn't commented on this video RJ! 😂 I was tempted to choose his 78 in my Top 5 since that's just a classic 70s look of Schmidt and 78 is my favorite set and first one I collected just like you. So happy to see that you chose that card.
Excellent video John, thank You! Graig Nettles Fan. I was hoping for George Brett next, but Nolan Ryan is fantastic! Mike Schmidt cards : 1980, 1974, 1976, 1977(the background too) & 1981 Topps.
5. 1974 Topps 4. 1984 Topps 3. 1981 Topps 2. 1977 Topps 1. 1986 Topps Really enjoying this series, John! Wow, a lot of cards to look through for Nolan. Haha
John, awesome video! My favorite Topps base cards of Mike Schmidt, subject to change at any moment: 🤣👊 5: 1974 Topps 4: 1989 Topps 3: 1986 Topps 2: 1980 Topps 1: 1973 Topps (Not just because it is his rookie, although I'm sure that influences me. 😊) Happy Holidays, my collecting brother! 🎄❄🎄❄🎄
These are really fun. Can i request a player? If i can my favorite player ever i john olerud. Not a big name or big cards but i would like to see your take on his cards
Thanks. Well, I'm working through my initial list of 40 players first. Not sure what players, if any, I'd do after that. I remember John Olerud. He had a sweet swing and if I remember correctly, won an AL batting title with Toronto? I remember he played a few years for the Mets and wore a batter's helmet while playing first because of a head injury he had. I looked up his basic set registry on PSA's website and there are 14 basic Topps playing days cards of his. Of those I would have to say my Top 5 would be: #5 - 2000 Topps #4 - 2003 Topps #3 - 2001 Topps #2 - 1999 Topps #1 - 1994 Topps
1976 is on my list we'll have to see what position it makes? I almost fell out of my chair I for sure though card 283 his 1974 would be in first place seeing his 1986 is a very very very huge surprise. my list 5. 1980 nice card 4. 1979 3. 1976 2. 1974 first card by himself 1. shades of memory's going to card shows and asking dealers to look at this card in the screw downs 1973 card 615 are you surprised? has anybody yelled at you for not having his 1974 on the list? what place would you rank his 1974 card? what place would you rank his rookie? it's nice to see some 1980's cards on the list nice to see 1980, 1983 surprised 74 wasn't in first place 86 was..
Thanks for your list Mark. No, no one has gotten upset with my choices and to leave out his 74 and rookie card from my list. I think everyone realizes that we all have different tastes in terms of what cards we like more than others. I'd probably put his 74 card 6th or 7th on my list and his rookie card possibly right outside of my Top 10. I'm not a big fan of multi-player rookie cards. Of the responses I've received so far, only one person has put his 74 as their #1 favorite card.
My Smitty list probably should be disregarded, because I only considered the ones I own, and that's 1973-79. (Aside from Johnny Bench and the Rickey rookie, my cutoff is 1979) But here it is: 5. 1979, 4. 1977, 3. 1974, 2. 1976, 1. 1973. I used different criteria when it came to #1. I didn't think about design or composition or the fact that two other players are on the card. Mike's rookie card was one I lusted after when I first got into collecting in the 1980s, while he was still playing. When I finally got one, it was typically off-center, which I didn't care about so much back then. It was probably trimmed (no grading in those days). I have a much nicer one now. But 1973 is my favorite because it seemed larger than life when I was starting out, and still gives me a thrill to look at.. By the way, I think that 1983 card shows a swing and a miss. 🤣
Hi John. No need to justify or disregard your rankings. I put a sentimental pick in my list so there's nothing wrong with choosing from just the cards you own for your list. And that's the best reason to choose his rookie card as your #1 card of his. And it's possible it was a swing and a miss on his 83 Topps card.
@@WadeBoggsFan Haha. Your guess of a line drive is probably more accurate.. Either way it looks like he provided a nice breeze to the people behind home plate.
Love it!
My 5 Fave Schmidt cards:
