Maegor probably Died at Summerhall, when it happened he was 27, which is old enough to be married for a man in westeros but also young enough for a man not to marry, also given he may have had a stronger claim over his uncle Aegon he may not have wanted to get himself married to anyone too powerful or just in general just yet since it may seem like a threat to the main branch of House Targaryen.
1st to take the Black for House Blackfyre🗡 I really want little Maegor to actually grow up into a really decent dude because the irony would be hilarious.
If GRRM never decided what happened to Maegor Brightflame there's an opportunity to do something more interesting with him especially since he might still be alive. Since the crown moved on from his line he could've gone abroad at a young age. He could make a surprise cameo for Daenerys or something. It would be a wonderful parallel to Jon and Maester Aemon if you really think about it. Two Targs in the Night's Watch and two supplanted Targs abroad. If he did die young it would've been easy enough for GRRM to just say it but it seems like there were some plans for him that were probably scraped.
If the story were and open ended soap opera, sure. At this point adding yet another Targaryen line with a claim with its own set of characters, is another expansion at a time the story needs to start winding down
When you look at all the lost branches of the Targaryen Dynasty... it really puts into perspective just how much potential died with them. The tragedies that may have been avoided or that could have been avoided, the good and the bad... It's all gone, for better or worse. *Gods. Kings. Fire, and Blood*
I really love this take honestly! I would love to see some what ifs on like "If Aegon II died and it made Amon king for realz" or "what if M.Ameon didn't become a maester" stuff like that
I wonder if Vaegon ever learned of the Maester conspiracy. It’s possible that his resentment against members of his family and indoctrination into the citadel went so deep that he may have even become involved, believing the Targaryens were an illogical element in Westeros.
5:30 I don't think he was insinuating Maegor was the true heir. I think he was saying that no Targaryen should rule and Westeros shouldn't be a single kingdom, but rather go back to having multiple kingdoms.
Yes, faith militant uprising was against whole Targeryens House. Not just Aenys or just Maegor. I wish Aenys made peace with his brother Maegor during that time as he and Maegor were on same page. Since they were good co rulers, Aenys won't go totally beast mode and Maegor won't sit ideally if action is needed, they could have ruled well together.
I have the opinion that Maegor was a good king. That the moniker The Cruel was only true for how he dealt with the enemies that he was surrounded by.Ultimately, he strengthened House Targaryen by declaring war on the Faith Militant. He eliminated a powerful opposition. I think that his reputation was undeserved. I think that histories were written by those who despised him, hence the bad reputation.
There are certain facts thou like him killing his wife and her entire house because he thinks she cheated on him, killing both his nephew and torturing one of them to death, forcing three Windows to marry him, killing like three maesters for defying him, maegor just took punishments to the next level and that is why almost everyone turned against him at the end.He wasn't a good king,he was a necessary evil to save house targaryen, good warrior and riders but terrible person and monarch
I think that there were men who would have made great kings and others who would have become terrible. It is fun to speculate if Maester Aemon would have made a great king. I believe he could have been the next Jaehaerys with his wisdom from Oldtown and then the Night's watch giving him an advantage over some other kings.
@@lukebarroso449 Yeah, especially since we see so many examples of sons who are very different from their fathers. I can understand the reason for him being put aside in favor of Aegon; given the trouble Kingdoms have often had with boy kings.
"Power resides where men believe it resides " That's the point. From nearly the beginning the phrase, "True and rightful king/heir" has been disputed. Whether you are team Stannis, Daenerys, Griff, Jon, Tommen, etc. it doesn't matter until enough people with political, economic, military, and/or social power decide they are, none is the 'rightful ruler'. Even Westerosi legal history isn't always clear as in the cases of Rhaenys and Rhaenyra
Not a bad list at all. I go back and forth if Maegor was right from taking the throne from his nephew. But I think his rule was need it somebody need to put them religious zealot in their place. All hail King Maegor🤲🏻👑
within context i tend to think he was a necessary evil, a lot of people do really overlook how powerful the faith was at this time, if a few things had gone differently House Targaryen's grip on power could have ended with Aenys. I do think he had the ability to be a good king but clearly he was a very changed man after his trail of seven.
He wasn’t the king the realm wanted but to an extent the one it needed. Sure he was cruel and unforgiving but it was that nature that was needed against the zealots like you said
However, you could argue he didn't need to crown himself to do those things. He could have done them as Hand or General or whatever in support of his nephew's reign.
If Vaemond had become king and didn't just name an heir himself, the delayed Great Council might have had a different outcome. Laenor would have been older and more acceptable for some. Corlys would have had more time to make alliances and spread his wealth to get his son crowned.
Maybe Aegon/Young Griff isn't a Blackfyre NOR a Mainline Targaryen, in the absolute almost impossible chance that Maegor Brightflame lived to have kids, maybe Young Griff is from Maegor Brightflames line. (it also possible like some suggest that he IE Maegor Brightflame may've died at Summerhall)
With his long face, round shoulders, bookishness and disinterest in sex I can’t help but wonder if Vaegon is loosely based on HP Lovecraft. George is a big fan after all.
Aegon the uncrowned the first. Viserys son of Andy's, both Aemon and Bealon (probably missing one of the conciliators dead sons in infancy or as a child) All og Viserys dead sons including Bealon and so on.

@carlrood4457 The man would be ancient by medieval standards. He's not claiming jack.
@@carlrood4457the story is gonna whine down with the long night, young griffs invasion, Jon’s resurrection and dany arriving in Westeros?
I’m sure little Prince Maegor went on to live a happy life, being poisoned by his enemies.

Aegon and Maegor are lesser versions of the dance. Of what Daemon could have been, and Aemond is another counterpart to what Daemon could have been.

He saved the dynasty, multiple times might I add. He really only became cruel when Visenya died

He could’ve crowned Aegon the uncrowned and served as hand just like Bloodraven served Aerys ii and stayed loyal to him
