    This is really helpful. I was originally planning on staying at the airbnb for 1 month with my dog, then had to extend to 3 due to the apartment search taking longer. The airbnb hosts are now dear friends, more like family, and when i did find my apartment, they offered to be my aval. I found the perfect place when i extended my search perimeter to neighborhoods I wasn’t considering before. I absolutely love the building, neighbors and neighborhood and just renewed my lease. Those are all great tips!

      @@wolfesound Santa Maria la Ribera in CDMX. Some people told me they hate it and feel unsafe but I love it. No one tries to speak English with me, which is great because I get to practice my Spanish.
      From personal experience: Plan and budget accordingly. I was naively thinking I'd find something in a month, it took 3, and the Airbnb took a larger chunk out of my budget. Both my Airbnb and apartment options were limited because I have a Pitbull.
      Budget for extra money for credit and background check too. If you don't have an aval/Mexican citizen cosigner, some rental companies will allow you to move in by paying extra.
      My landlord didn't. He uses an outside background check company, which I had to pay a non-refundable fee of 4510 pesos the first year, and 1250 pesos the second year lease renewal, and both times I needed to provide documents, bank statements, proof of employment like a letter from my employer, verify the business address and my work email, etc. It took about a week to get their approval/reapproval.
      Also budget for utilities, internet initial set up, if they are not included. And if you'll need to purchase or rent your own appliances like refrigerator, stove, etc...
      I'm sure everyone is different but when I went to meet the landlord, I had to bring my dog to meet him. I also had to provide her vaccination record, measurements, photo, etc. She is included in a special section in the lease.
      I understand every situation is different, this is just my experience.
      And when you do move, remember to update your address with INM.
      Sorry for the journal.😅

    Yes, the wifi. Definitely check. Because I got it included and after I signed, it was horrible, 2mb download speed. Cut off most of the day. Then I asked about it, and they said it's basic internet. I definitely learned because I work remotely. Also, check if there's a problem, who to contact, and where that location of the person or office. Make sure all that is signed in the contract. I have local friends who check my documents for me, and that's why it's very important to connect with locals. Be respectful. Try to learn the language. you don't need to be perfect. They will really appreciate that and you will see how much more life will be easy and easy to have my local friends.

    Hi Mariana, I was able to get into a senior living apartment in my home state of Connecticut. But it won't be available until around January of 2025. So in the meantime I hope to find an apartment in Mexico. I'm looking in the Maya Riviera area. Your tips are SO helpful!

    Very informative. One additional source for rentals is Craigslist. I liked that you pointed out, what is the definition of furnished? I looked at several properties that were furnished and it did not mean the same thing as my definition.

    Marianna,
    You provide excellent information in each of your videos; thank you. I am a business mentor with SCORE and I give you an A+ in coordinating your update "teasers" with your income producing product. I think you have figured out your marketing niche and I ask my budding entrepreneurs to watch your videos. I am a strong supporter of women's business entrepreneurship. You are doing everything right for now.
    Shifting gears, there are 2X's as many female owned businesses in America than men owned businesses. The common problem is, women don't know how to scale. The meaning, "If each business owner went away, their business would go away." You are doing a great job, please look at ways to transcend your business beyond your leadership.
    The first step that I suggest is to try to think of ways to help your mother-in-law, Jackie as to how to transition her business beyond her. As you help her, I think of how you will find your roadmap to the future for Mexico Relocation Guide.
    We think you are doing a great job, thank you.
    Cheers,
    Raving Fans.

    This is useful stuff. I have a few years yet, but plan on being one of the many who retire here. One thing I'm not liking though, is these are huge, congested cities. What if we want to be in an area that isn't wall to wall buildings? I'm on the search for places like that now.

    • @MexicoRelocationGuide
      @MexicoRelocationGuide  4 місяці тому

      There are many towns that are not large cities where you can find homes with yards and space between you and your neighbor. If you want to live somewhere like that you should look into smaller towns like Cholula, Chapala, Atlixco, Tepoztlan, Cuernavaca, Rosarito, Ajijic and the like. If you want to go on a scouting trip, check out our relocation tours page mexicorelocationguide.com/tours/private-relocation-tours/

    My wife and myself are on a 5 year plan moving to the island indefinitely!!! Any help or advice will help. Just think of me as a citizen already. Just left Cozumel and we are sold. I need Cozumel like a diabetic need insulin. Srry ❤❤❤❤

      @MexicoRelocationGuide  4 місяці тому +1

      Hola! We recommend going on a relocation tour in Cozumel. During your relocation tour our guide can take you to a local pharmacy so you can compare the costs of insulin. We also recommend visiting with a local doctor to get an idea what type of insulin will be the equivalent of what you currently take and so you have a better idea on costs. If you need to talk to a doctor before coming to Mexico, we recommend finding one on Doctoralia.com.mx
      Some of them offer remote consultations.

    Hello Mariana , as always fantastic info ! ( thank you ) Question - There is a lot of info on real estate and many realtors advertise properties that are in pristine condition ( understandable ) , we were wondering if you’ve heard of any properties that are available in ( San Miguel de Allende ) that are in need of complete renovation ? Are there realtors who specialise in these types of properties? Thanks again for all you for expats and look forward to your reply . JD

    • @MexicoRelocationGuide
      @MexicoRelocationGuide  3 місяці тому

      not sure to be honest. I haven’t heard of realtors that focus on fixer uppers. But surely the ones we recommend have a variety of properties in different conditions.

    JBlinky67. We feel the same! Big cities are not our style, we prefer smaller towns. City housing also doesn't appear to have yards for our dog to run in or for us to relax in. But we do hope to find a nice small town within reasonable driving distance (an hour or so) to a city that has cultural offerings such as an orchestra and museums, and shopping, as well as good medical facilities (just in case someday we need them). Best of luck to you!
