Yay, I am so glad my instructions were helpful 😍 I would love to see your finished apron, please feel free to share it with my on my instragram @pour_la_victoire !!!
Honey don't give up on trying to make aprons. I kid you not, I had never made a apron. I've always done throw quilts or quilts. I seen a video of a very pretty apron. I decided to try it. The skirt was in 3 sections of ruffles. I tried it with some ugly material I had lol 😆. I did it, I impressed myself. Right now just need 2 more ,of course these are simple aprons. I'm making for my grand daughter's daycare classmates. I have had more trouble with the simple ones, than the 1st difficult one I tried. I have enjoyed so much, I have pictures of the ones I want to try. Never give up 🙂🙂 you just keep trying. You got this 👍 🙂 God bless you 🙏 I was hoping I could post the apron, but I just can't get it 🙄😒
If anyone needs it, I changed the measurements given in the pattern from in to cm: Pattern pieces: All pattern pieces include 0.5 cm seam allowance Bib: Cut one 24.13 cm x 40 cm Straps: Cut two 9 cm x 84 cm Waistband: Cut one 4.5 cm x 57.15 cm Waistband facing: Cut one 4.5 cm x 57.15 cm Ties: Cut two 6.50cm x 76 cm Skirt: Cut one 88 cm x 112 cm, and cut two 88 cm x 37 cm (this will vary if you’re using narrower or wider fabric; generally, avoid having a seam down the center front; the apron skirt should be at least 1.4 meters wide).
So I need to tell you: I'm from Colombia and actually study embroidery in an art school. So I will use your pattern for make my final project in a course. Thank you for your knowledge. This let me make a dream come true.
Bless you for making this pattern available for free!!! I'm trying to avoid spending too much on this new hobby (sewing/historical sewing) until I know it'll stick (I'm one of those people who drop hobbies in favor of new ones too often). This is gorgeous and I can't wait to try it
This is a great tutorial! I wanted to add ruffles to the bottom of the skirt and straps and it came out great!!❤

Beautiful … love your attention to detail and your sweet narrative voice. I will be making large pockets on mine to use in the garden and chicken house ❤
I bought a similar pattern, but the instructions were needlessly difficult. Thank you for the great, clear instructions! I finished the first one on my antique hand crank machine, but will do the next on one of my treadles!
I love this apron design! I will be making one in vintage white linen I bought in a mercatino usato yesterday, and then after I have perfected the technique, I will make another in lavender colored Italian made linen. I look forward to seeing how they look and blend with my unique clothing style! Grazie mille
Woow I was looking for this style of apron and found your channel. Thanks for the tutorial. I stay here and I will try to reproduce it for my Spanish channel. Regards
Thank you for your instructions and pattern. Both were easy to follow and now I have my own basic apron I will certainly be using your instructions to make more and maybe even bei a little more ambitious by adding ruffles, lace insertion etc
Another beautiful video!! You truly make some of the best lit, edited, and detailed tutorials on UA-cam. They are always a pleasure to watch even for someone who doesn't sew (me!). Both your cooking and sewing videos are fantastic. Please keep making them!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I'm using your pattern as a base to make aprons for myself and my mom (her birthday present this year!). Ours are made out of floral print cotton (each a different colour), and I'm putting lace and pockets onto each of them. I'm hand-sewing them, so it'll take a while, but so far it's going good; your instructions are quite easy to follow.
I was looking for the apron like this one for longest time. Finally, found your video and I made 2 aprons by following your instructions. Thank you so much and have a good day!
Thank you for this video, the instructions are very clear, you explain and show everything in a way that makes it easy to follow and understand how things go together. And the result is beautiful of course!
I think that Marialka is right about the deep hem, I have seen a few aprons of this sort and the bottom hem seemed to be at least doubled. One of the aprons had a shocked big using white cotton embroidery floss. Lovely apron, good research. Birdy
That is very nice 😍 You can tell you take pride in what you are doing. Like a perfectionist ❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing your talent with us. God bless you 🙏🙏🙏
Oh, lovely! I watched Cat's Costumery make an apron too; maybe it's time I made one as well haha. :) Nice video, thank you for sharing all the details like you did! It looks absolutely beautiful. And functional, too!
Thank you! I've used it a few times to protect my clothes from oil splatters, rogue bits of flour, etc and I can confirm that it's super practical! I highly encourage you to try making one, aprons are such quick, rewarding projects!
I made this apron today and I just want to say thank you so much for making this video!!! This kind of apron is exactly what I was looking for and your instructions were so easy to follow! I only used a 44 inch panel for the skirt and I had to do the gathers by hand but it still turned out great, I'mdo obsessed with it 😄 Thanks again!
I don't know if it was ever done, but I can imagine a deep hem would be useful on an apron as a potholder. Maybe even a full triple-layer, rather than a quarter-inch turn and double layer. I don't know, because I've never done either. But I do feel now like I want to experiment and see which I like better.
Oooo, that would be a brilliant, simple way to make this apron more efficient! I have a wool apron and linen apron that I've used as potholders, but the fabric was thicker and more textured than the cotton I used here.
@@Pour_La_Victoire Maybe a hem facing of wool could do the job? Wool would be better anyway, since it still insulates when it's wet. We all know how cotton cloths don't insulate at ALL when they're wet. I've never heard whether linen does or not.
Aww thank you, you are too kind! Please let me know how your apron turns out! And let me know if any of my instructions seem unclear. Bonus: I just realized today that you can unbutton the straps and tuck the bib and straps into your skirt to have just a plain white apron! So versatile!
I'm hoping to dress up for the jubilee this year as we do a cake sale for charity - I'm super excited to make an attempt for a Mary Poppins outfit! Fingers crossed it goes well I'll be making a second for a friend going as a Victorian style maid
Don't know where i saw it (i think ww1/2 nurse vid), but they had the buttons on the waistband and the hole in the shoulder straps. That way you only needed to adjust the buttons when someone else was going to wear it. Not saying that you're approach is wrong.
That's a great technique for size adjustability! It makes sense that that level of standardization and size adjustability would've been used in a nurse's uniform.
*Looks great!! I can't wait to have the guts to try one for myself🙈 Reminds me of the aprons worn by the girls in the movie 'The Harvey Girls' with Judy Garland! Ooh I looove that movie!!💖
So after ripping the seams twice now following what she said in the video by putting wrong sides together. It should actually be RIGHT SIDES together. I’m doing fabric that’s directional not a plain white like she’s doing. Although either way I think it should be right sides together so the seam is not showing on the front of the skirt.
Thank you very much!!! Great tutorial and effort. I have to make an apron for my daughter. She is in " Alice in Wonderlands" and it will help me a lot.
This is a good video, Trying to find historical apron patterns for this era hasnt been easy. That said, I have a few questions. With regards to the waistband and ties, wouldve it been easier for your to make the w/b and ties all one piece with notches to mark C.F, apron and apron bib placement? I have seen aprons where in place of buttonholes for the shoulder strap is longer, crossed at the back and then put through loops at the ends of the w.b and tied , forgoing the need for button and buttonholes..have you seen anything like that? what are your thoughts? great video btw.
Great questions! I certainly could've made the waistband and ties all in one piece, but I found many original examples had separate ties (in some cases, the ties were only one thickness of fabric hemmed all around, rather than folded in half) and wrangling such a long tube of fabric might be tricky. I have seen the aprons with loops and extended back straps so that is definitely a valid option... I just truly enjoy making buttonholes so chose that for this particular project :D
Thank you for this tutorial! I am making an apron based on this with linen. Do you have any recommendations for how to fold and press in a quarter inch without the folded edge looking all wavy? I am relatively new to sewing, but I do want the narrow seam! Would you use an iron to press linen or just finger press? Thank you!
Hello and welcome! I would use an iron on a high setting to press the linen - the fibers will relax with the heat and the fabric will be easier to fold. Some linens have a tendency to unravel due to their shorter fibers, so try a sample to make sure you have enough seam allowance to withstand unraveling as you work with it.
Thank you for this video. I’m fairly new to dressmaking and plan to take this on holiday as a sewing project. I have a number of Victorian and Edwardian aprons and am impressed how closely your design and construction would appear to match the originals. I’m very excited about making one and feel confident after watching your video and reading the tutorial notes. I would love to make this apron in linen. Do you think that would be ok ?🤔. Some of my antique aprons are linen and they are very tough and hard wearing. I do plan to be using my apron daily.
@@Pour_La_Victoire Hopefully! After spending hours pulling out linen threads yesterday, I went ahead and cut out all the pieces. They are now all packed along with thread and buttons to take on holiday. I will be following your video and tutorial throughout the process. Thank you. I am very excited about my new apron.
Hi there. My linen apron is almost finished! I want to thank you for your help. I must be responsible for at least 1k of the views I’ve watched the video that much! I’m still fairly new to sewing, historical dressmaking and social media but I’ve created an Instagram account #sew back in time and will hopefully have my apron pics up tomorrow. I will give you a shout out once I’ve figured out how to do so. I absolutely adore my new apron and feel I really understand about the construction now such that I can go on to make different versions. I think your UA-cam channel is brilliant and you are a great teacher. 🤩
Thanks! I used pima cotton (also known as pimatex cotton under some brands), but I came across a few references to aprons being made of lawn - I just didn't have any to spare! I think any firmly woven cotton will do.
You can probably use the width for the apron skirt given in the video, as the apron skirt is VERY full. Other than that, probably widening the bib (the bib + straps appear wide enough to span across the bust in many period examples, so you can use that measurement for the width of the bib) and lengthening the waistband will have you covered. Good luck and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
I just watched your video and I LOVE how your apron turned out - that embroidery is gorgeous!! I'm so glad my instructions helped you create this beautiful garment. And hello from a fellow Simmer :)
Thank you! I think anyone can experience the joy of wearing an apron - there's something about wearing one that makes me smile, and I'm glad you get to experience that, too!
@vintagefinds_thrifts my black edwardian shirtwaist is actually made from the Folkwear Gibson Girl Blouse pattern, so if you watch that it should give some pointers and using the pattern 😊
Very nice video, but I think attaching the straps to bib, instead of wrong sides together, you may have meant to say, "wrong sides up". Also, next time, could you please use a fabric that has an obvious wrong side/ This was hard to see when both sides of fabric were white. Thanks.
Thanks! You're right, it should be "wrong sides up" -- I'll see if I can change that in the video. I think my next version of this apron will be in a cream check, I'll be sure to pick something with a distinct right and wrong side. Thank you so much for your feedback!
Ok so I’m trying to make this apron. So when I sew the skirt panels, you say to put wrong sides together. I have directional fabric and if I do wrong sides together the seam is on the right side. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Right sides together so the seam is on the inside of the skirt?
Oops, sorry about that! I misspoke in the video - the skirt part of the apron does end up with the seams on the inside, so stitch the panels right sides together. You can attach the panels wrong sides together if you use French seams.
@@Pour_La_Victoire haha yes I noticed that the second time I stitched it and then I didn’t like the look so I ripped the seams and did the panels right sides together and it came out perfectly!!! :). Thank you this has given me purpose after not sewing for a bit. Was in a rut and I’m gonna be doing a mother daughter tea party in the spring, I’m practicing making my own Victorian style apron now! So I’m glad I found your video! :)
Thank you, I'm using a Singer Stylist. It cost about $100 and has a lot of interest stitches and options... even though I use the straight stitch most of the time!
You could scale down the skirt part to be a total of 36 inches wide and maybe 20 inches long (adjust depending on her height). The bib can be shortened by an inch. The straps would need to be adjusted according to her height (you can lay a tape measure from the front waistband, over the shoulder, across the back to the back waistband to test optimal length). Good luck!
@@lynnreid1300 hmm, for the waistband measure the circumference of your recipient's waist, around the belly button, and subtract 3 inches to create the gap in the back for the ties :)
@@Pour_La_Victoire Hello, me again. Is this a one size fits all pattern or will a bigger person need to adjust any of the measurements? Do you suggest any alterations for bigger or smaller bodies?
@@rachelAisme for a small person the apron likely doesn't need adjustments (except perhaps reducing the fullness of the skirt part as desired). To make this apron fit a larger body, increase the width of the bib and increase the length of the waistband and straps
Audio is weak even with all speakers at max volume. White fabric on white backgrounds are not viewable for a tutorial/demonstration; a piece of colored poster board as background would help with contrast.
Thank you so much for this tutorial although! Warnings for wide chested people, I got a huge ribb cage and wide set breasts.... Make the bib larger 😂It.. turned in to a harness more then a bib... I hope that wearing flattening garmends will help, but it sure isn't something that I can wear every day for cleaning and baking with just a t-shirt on!
I'm glad the tutorial was helpful, but sorry the bib didn't size up well 😕 maybe you could add a strip of lace between the bib and straps to widen that area?
@@Pour_La_Victoire I think I have enough of the fabric left over to make a entirely new bib :) Just need to find the time to undo absolutely every single stitch 😅

I think this apron would be absolutely lovely made in linen!
This is what I was looking for. Thank you so much 🙏🏻✨✨✨
In addition to loving this tutorial, I love your blouse! Did you make it?
Thank you! Yes, I made the blouse too, I used the Folkwear Gibson Girl Shirtwaist pattern and added contrast piping around the yoke.
Wonderful video. I've gone to the website and can't read the instructions because other pictures are on top of it. Is there another link or page?
Thanks for letting me know - I've fixed my website so that the images don't cover the instructions. Thank you!
Love it. Super cute
Thank you so much!
Kindly share how much fabric yards you have used and also the belt is should be how much width and length? Kindly tell
I plan to make a Victorian apron soon, so this was great! What kind of cotton did you use?
Thanks! I used pima cotton (also known as pimatex cotton under some brands), but I came across a few references to aprons being made of lawn - I just didn't have any to spare! I think any firmly woven cotton will do.
@@Pour_La_Victoire Great! I think I have some pimatex cotton in my stash.
I love this! I'm going to try making one... but I'm plus size so I'm going to have to figure out how to change all of the sizes of everything 😭
Thank you so much for this vid and for learning me all this
I just watched your video and I LOVE how your apron turned out - that embroidery is gorgeous!! I'm so glad my instructions helped you create this beautiful garment. And hello from a fellow Simmer :)
@@Pour_La_Victoire thank you soooo much! That is so nice of you to say, and it made me so happy! :D
Kindly guide about medium or large size measurements length width would be so thankful
Hi, you can easily adjust the apron to accommodate larger sizes by increasing the width of the bib and waistband.
@@Pour_La_Victoire ok
I really like your work. Me too, although I am a man, I like wearing such aprons.
Thank you! I think anyone can experience the joy of wearing an apron - there's something about wearing one that makes me smile, and I'm glad you get to experience that, too!
Love this video! I also love your shirt! Did you make that too? 😊
Thank you! Yes, I made the blouse with the Folkwear Gibson Girl Shirtwaist pattern - highly recommend that pattern!
@@Pour_La_Victoire thank you I’ll definitely look it up 😊
@@Pour_La_Victoire do you think you can make a video on how you sewed the shirt? 😊
@vintagefinds_thrifts my black edwardian shirtwaist is actually made from the Folkwear Gibson Girl Blouse pattern, so if you watch that it should give some pointers and using the pattern 😊
Love it ! Definitely going to make one :D
Thanks! I'd love to see your finished apron, feel free to tag/share it with me on my instagram, @pour_la_victoire !
@@Pour_La_Victoire Awesome! Thanks for a good video!
So beautiful which company sewing machine you are using?
Thank you, I'm using a Singer Stylist. It cost about $100 and has a lot of interest stitches and options... even though I use the straight stitch most of the time!
Looks like making another apron is in my future! lol
This is the second apron I've made this year, I have a dozen aprons now - you really can never have too many haha!
@@Pour_La_Victoire Never too many aprons. Same for shifts/smocks/chemise/camicia. lol
Умница !!!!!
Approx what measurements would I need for a 10 year old girl? I need to make several for Victorian day. Thank you
You could scale down the skirt part to be a total of 36 inches wide and maybe 20 inches long (adjust depending on her height). The bib can be shortened by an inch. The straps would need to be adjusted according to her height (you can lay a tape measure from the front waistband, over the shoulder, across the back to the back waistband to test optimal length). Good luck!
@@Pour_La_Victoire thank you so much for your reply.
@@Pour_La_Victoire how long would you advise for the waistband? Iv got everything else almost worked sizewise lol 😆
@@lynnreid1300 hmm, for the waistband measure the circumference of your recipient's waist, around the belly button, and subtract 3 inches to create the gap in the back for the ties :)
@@Pour_La_Victoire thank you so much for your quick reply and help. I'm cutting atm 😉
What fabric are you using?
I used a plainweave cotton fabric - it goes by the name Pima cotton or Pimatex cotton. You can find this fabric online at Dharma Trading Co.
What kind of fabric do you use? Thank you
I used a pima/pimatex cotton fabric. Cotton broadcloth (a bit heavier) or cotton lawn (a bit lighter) would also work.
@@Pour_La_Victoire thank you so much;)
Thanks a bunch!!
So glad this was helpful for you!
I’m so confused I looked on the blog but I can’t find a printable pattern? Is the layout the same as the pattern?
Hi, yes, the layout is the pattern. All you have to do is draw the shapes, according to the cutting layout, on your fabric.
Is 3yard fabric enough?
Yes, 3 yards of fabric should be enough. You can use less fabric in the skirt part of the apron if needed 🙂
@@Pour_La_Victoire ok thanku😊
Audio is weak even with all speakers at max volume. White fabric on white backgrounds are not viewable for a tutorial/demonstration; a piece of colored poster board as background would help with contrast.
Thank you for your feedback, I'll keep that in mind for my next tutorial video.
Great explanation but please don't have music playing, it makes it extremely difficult to understand what is said for those with hearing difficulties.
Thank you for your feedback
Beau tablier mais sans traduction cela ne me sert à rien .😢😢
Amazing 😍🥵
Thank you 😊
