Came here after a comment on his Red Bull Music Academy interview shared this. This has been pretty good so far, better than that boring interview
Edit: This is far better and so delightful

These old hippies are something. The new generations after them, and I mean generations with the "S" has many different types of music also. Just listened to Gioli & Assia. These two women are really great. I remember Terry when he lived in the Sierra's in California, a real stoner and working in a old barn like studio about three feet from the road. The hills did not hear him though. The music was inside and being recorded. Funny world.

One of the most interesting and uplifting musician interviews I've ever heard.
I've recently been listening to Errol Garner, and Riley just nailed why that pianist is so great (besides the technical stuff). His spirit just shines through his playing, even on old recordings.

I saw him give a solo piano show at UC Berkeley in 1999 or 2000. Stuff like that for about 80 solid minutes… one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Took me to a space no other musician ever has

I just LOVE this mans work.
Ever since I first heard his music on Bruce Conner's shortfilm about the atomic bomb called "Crossroads" - his music has absolutely fascinated me.
Thank you SO much for interviewing him here.

Fantastic interview. So well done by interviewer and Terry Riley. He is one far out guy. A great example for all artists everywhere.

I think I initially heard Terry Riley mentioned in an interview of Manuel Göttsching in which he mentioned the dervishes record as an inspiration. Obviously a very important figure that has represented the bleeding edge of American avant-grade for probably his entire career.

I used to listen to Sarah Cahill on her segment of "Music of the World" as a DJ on KPFA long ago, it was she who introduced me to Terry Riley's music (Lisbon Concert), that year I purchased many copies of the album for Christmas gifts, A few years (?) later I purchased her "Miroirs And Gaspard De La Nuit" CD. I became (almost) hooked on classical (new , neo classical) I'm still "new" to this music. Terry Riley reminded me of McCoy Tyner a music a genre (jazz) I'm far more familiar with... though I'm more steeped into 60's/70's soul & rock sounds. I hope even at my age I'm open to all musical styles (or genres). I haven not completed watching/listening to this the interview... expect an edit. I admire both Sarah Cahill and Terry Riley.

Love the format of interviewing at the piano, and that example he makes of raga is really beautiful! Are there any recordings of solely piano and raga singing by Riley out there?
