Great vid Jeff. We got these at SMKW years ago and the K5 series and we love them. With the Lansky Dog Bone CS Sharpener you can touch up serrated ones. My oldest K5 is over 30 years old and my wife was processing 🍅 yesterday...in 2018
These knives are awesome. I own a set of them and I love them. I first bought my set when I moved into my apartment last December and I haven't even had to sharpen them. It's like a razor blade on a stick. Seriously. Just don't stick them in the dishwasher or they will rust.
This is a great set, I bought it a few years ago.. One tip I use, I put the knives in the block upside down, that way it doesn't dull them as quick. Good job on the review.
Awesome video as always! I have the utility knife as well as the slicer on the way. I had always been curious about the Cold Steel kitchen knives and how they stack up against the more expensive sets so I ordered them a couple weeks ago to test them out. If you had done this review 2 weeks earlier I'd have bought the entire set!
@USNVET81 itd a good idea for many as not everyonbe who cooks uses all the different kidns of styles for different tasks...you cna get most doen with just the chefs knife and paring knife, I just prefer them all for different stuff...
@xnickx29 lol I have been usign the term jimping way before I knew what youtube was I 1st heard the term from the guy who owns newgraham knives...many years ago...
Hey Jeff, don't know if this is of any use but i always found my family's set of knives going blunt in the wooden block , so to avoid the edge being ruined i'd always put them edge up running the spine along the bottom of the cut out for the blade so the knife retains its edge and doesn't fold over like mine did but that might happen because of the higher grade steels cold steel uses, either that or get hold of a magnetic strip to go on the wall , looks cool and is the best way to store 'em!
@bigdirty59 dealrs all have theior own policy but no matter what even if you buy direct if it breaks from normal use it will be looked at and replaced...
@dsarti1 I cant always afford $20 steaks, sometiems I buy cheap meat and or I fusge griling or cooking and thery are tough, when I do buy good steal I cut it with a butter knife
Jeff, whatever happened to your CRKT Hisshou? I LOVE that blade! Please do an update video or something. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks Cutlerylover!!
Nice! I actually use the K4 as a kitchen knife, I have a serrated and plain edge! Great little kitchen knife and super easy to get the knife shaving sharp after using it! :D
If you like high end kitchen knives you should check out Victorinox kitchen stuff. I was pretty impressed by their stake knives and they aren't too expensive.
I have a question, do you think it's necessary to store your knives upside-down to preserve that sharp edge and prevent damage? My friend said you should, but i dont know if it's THAT necessary.
@cutlerylover I need to purchase a good set. I am trying to loose weight and eat more at home which means I will be cooking more at home. Thanks for the review.
cool. i was wondering how good they were. i just bought the amazing knife set from ronco. off of tv. they rock. each knife slices paper. we use the steak knives for most kitchen tasks. keeping their edge real well. we hardly use the fork end utility knife. its too big. and the paring knife is too small. the grips are good. not as sticky as kraton. the knives came with emt shears. they rock too. for opening clamshell packages. they rock. you should get some for everyday scissor tasks.
Been eyeing this set too. The IDEA of Cold Steel branded kitchen knives. Sweet. Personally, I do NOT like asymmetrical (chisel grind?) blades. They slice crooked. ESPECIALLY anything thin or delicate, like a slice of cheese. And even annoy me just eating steak. My steak knives are cheap "Miracle Blade" but they're SYMMETRICAL, so slice ike a dream. But crap steel, won't hold an edge, takes long time to sharpen. Fun in kitchen and on steak: Cold Steel "Roach Belly". -Berk
this might be a big request, but sometime in the future could u make a video cutting steak with the serrated steak knives. i have never used a serrated steak knife but this looks like a good set. thanks.
The bst knives you can get actually have a handle made of two parts attached with rivets on the blades backpart. Of course you never really need one of those if you are not a pro chef and yours will do but it would be interesting to have one of those pro knives in comparison. I hope the tech stuff i wrote about the knife is understandable. Its kind of hard to write about such special things if you are not a native speaker.
jeff, idk if you care or not but if you put your knives back in your block edge up they will stay sharper for longer, edge down you wear down your edge faster by slightly cutting into the wood every time you pull out a knife and put it back.
Those look like a really nice deal! I recently bought a set of Wusthof Gourmet series for my girlfriend and I sharpened them right out of the box as they did not seem sharp enough to me. I own a set of Zwilling Pro S knives and they are very solid and sharp but rather pricey! IMO the average home cook should stick with good German or American steel as it is easier to maintain. A good set of knives is going to cost between $175.00-$600.00+. Never put them in the dishwasher nor the sink!
@JesusFuckingChrist84 I know...I dont do it often but on occasion Ill just buy direct, I know of one source that had them for $140 but were out of stock...I always suggest shopping around though doesnt matter what your talking about...
I'm just not sure about them going away from VG-1 on their kitchen knives. It seems like it may just be a step forward in cost savings but a step back in steel.
It seems on all forums, people complain that coldsteel knives doesn't hold an edge, but no one understand that knives need to be maintained, sharpened, oiled and cared foor??? They can't be lying in a drawer for a couple of years and still be as sharp as they were when bought xD
@ArtisanTony most peopel have dull kitche knives, even the rich peope, with expensive knives, lol...You cna get away with buying just the chefs knife/utitlity/and bonign knife to cover most tasks for food prep..a cheaper alternative...
ive had my 400 series for about a year and i couldnt be happier. i use my chef knife every day and its still sharp enough to kill a herd of zombies and then slice through a tomato
Put the knives in the block upside down and it'll make sure the blades stay sharp.
Great vid Jeff. We got these at SMKW years ago and the K5 series and we love them. With the Lansky Dog Bone CS Sharpener you can touch up serrated ones. My oldest K5 is over 30 years old and my wife was processing 🍅 yesterday...in 2018
I don't understand. Everytime I look into doing something or buying something cutlerylover comes out and makes a video of the same thing!
I love you!
@ironlungdtoker yeah I didnt know what to think the 1st thought when I actualy got them was wow, these are alot lighter than I thought they woudl be
I have the same set , bought it about 5yrs ago . Great Set !
These knives are awesome. I own a set of them and I love them. I first bought my set when I moved into my apartment last December and I haven't even had to sharpen them. It's like a razor blade on a stick. Seriously. Just don't stick them in the dishwasher or they will rust.
@bigdirty59 all cold steel knives can be sent in if broken under normal use and be replaced for free...
This is a great set, I bought it a few years ago.. One tip I use, I put the knives in the block upside down, that way it doesn't dull them as quick. Good job on the review.
i love that lighting when ur cutting the bottles

To quote gunny, Jesus H Christ a new knife review! really cool set Jeff
@ericsp0f thank you

thanks for making this vid dude. i've been thinking of getting this set myself.
nice review , ive had my eye on those knives for a wile , its nice to c a positive review b4 i order them
Nice kitchen set, Jeff... Thanks!
@xnickx29 lol I have been usign the term jimping way before I knew what youtube was I 1st heard the term from the guy who owns newgraham knives...many years ago...

@JDEAN765 interesting concept, never thought of that before? hmmm
Very nice, I was wondering if cold steel kitchen knife were as good as there other product, thanks a lot for the review!
@bigdirty59 dealrs all have theior own policy but no matter what even if you buy direct if it breaks from normal use it will be looked at and replaced...
Hey buddy was wondering if you have tried the no knead bread making yet?
@dsarti1 I cant always afford $20 steaks, sometiems I buy cheap meat and or I fusge griling or cooking and thery are tough, when I do buy good steal I cut it with a butter knife
hey jeff. im sure you know but ka-bar is a branch of cutco, and i have a cutco set that is awesome. it makes working in the kitchen so much easier.
@sae1095hc I wan tto say yes just knowing what temperatures kraton and zytel can handle but to know for sure contact cold steel before you purchase...
If you like high end kitchen knives you should check out Victorinox kitchen stuff. I was pretty impressed by their stake knives and they aren't too expensive.
I just realized that you did a review of the K5 some time ago. If you still have it, I'd love to get your ideas on how they compare.
I always like the Ja Henckels cutlery sets but these look just as good if not better! Cool vid
I have a question, do you think it's necessary to store your knives upside-down to preserve that sharp edge and prevent damage? My friend said you should, but i dont know if it's THAT necessary.
@deebs1596 thats a good thing to know...
Nice review Jeff, I am looking for a good kitchen set. I would be interested in buying them separately. Thanks for the vids man!!!
@viper61794 ahhh, been eyeballing them since they 1st came out when KAI introduced the line, haha some day!
09:24 I love getting into the tough spots when I'm boning. Looks like I need this knife set!
Cold steel has a great catalog
@cutlerylover I need to purchase a good set. I am trying to loose weight and eat more at home which means I will be cooking more at home. Thanks for the review.
thats a really nice set, good vid.
are the steak knifes rived? does the tang of the blade go to the end of the handle?
You've used these for a while now, how do these 4116 Kitchen Classics compare to the VG-1 K5 knife?
cool. i was wondering how good they were. i just bought the amazing knife set from ronco. off of tv. they rock. each knife slices paper. we use the steak knives for most kitchen tasks. keeping their edge real well. we hardly use the fork end utility knife. its too big. and the paring knife is too small. the grips are good. not as sticky as kraton. the knives came with emt shears. they rock too. for opening clamshell packages. they rock. you should get some for everyday scissor tasks.
@landocommando8 I own a vic paring knife, its nice and affordable...
@xnickx29 oh I know, didnt mean to sound defensive, lol

once i move out and get my own place i want this set in my kitchen!

how do you compare the k-5 to chef's knife in this set?
Great tip! I never thought of that! :D
If your insert the knives into the block with the cutting side up, they won't dull when you take them in and out.
eh just an FYI they also use the 4116 krupp in their kobun fixed blade tanto among other knives
i love your use of grammar
@cutlerylover
YCS has 7 sets in stock for $130 and change each + shipping.
sweet knifes jeff
and i hope u enjoy the rest of your day to
This set doesn't come with a steel does it? Just noticed that on the email they sent me today, that's not too cool for a kitchen set imho.
there nices i have a set of chicago cutlery and that need to be sharped but there good
@dragonknight96 not everyone thinks youtube is a big deal...lol, or that im a "star" but thats besides the point...
nice lighting
That was sweet!!!!
where are they made?
....i loved it when you were talking about the boning knife :)
I'm just not sure about them going away from VG-1 on their kitchen knives. It seems like it may just be a step forward in cost savings but a step back in steel.
Are they all full tang?
What about corrosion resistance?
2 more videos till # 1000!!!!!! Good Luck
BTW, great review and video!
are these knives full tang?
@ohnevergoingtoquit That thought did cross my mind tho... But I'm hoping he still has it. By God that was such a beautiful blade. *crosses fingers*
Must....have....
you should do cold steel vs victorinox kitchen knives
The chefs knife is pretty much all i use in the kitchen; was taught how to use it like any other knife...
Awesome... My mom has a full Henckels set and a Shun knife XD
how many knives do you own? :)
@synysterguitartist7x lol then dont I sound like a salesman in all my reviews?
I no longer purchase tough steaks, so I still prefer a non serrated edge on my steak knives 😎😜
Are they full tang
It may be sacrilege to even contemplate, but are they dishwasher-safe?
I love my spartan so much, but its to big to carry in a pocket, I want the rajah 3 for a work knife
It seems on all forums, people complain that coldsteel knives doesn't hold an edge, but no one understand that knives need to be maintained, sharpened, oiled and cared foor??? They can't be lying in a drawer for a couple of years and still be as sharp as they were when bought xD
dig the review
nice J
now im lookin forward to more cookin vids
and yes, 09:37 thats what she said, or he said
@ArtisanTony most peopel have dull kitche knives, even the rich peope, with expensive knives, lol...You cna get away with buying just the chefs knife/utitlity/and bonign knife to cover most tasks for food prep..a cheaper alternative...
❤
ive had my 400 series for about a year and i couldnt be happier. i use my chef knife every day and its still sharp enough to kill a herd of zombies and then slice through a tomato
Dare I ask, are they machine washable?
i would have liked a cleaver in the set but its a all around good set
Protip, Store your knives in the block upside down, so that the blades never touch the wood.
They stay a lot sharper that way.
I dont get it, I did a google search for this and found it for 50 or so dollars less. Why would you ever buy direct from a manufacturer?
you should flip the knives over to keep the block and knifes it good condition.
@cutlerylover yes but more than normal in this video lol
How many people r watching it December 2020
Where are you buying your steaks? The shoe leather store?? Damn I never heard of GOOD steal being called tough
Jeff go look on amazon they are 122 believe it or not
hahaha 9:20 was awesome, nice save
i love my shuns....there well worth the money :D
"boning any kind of meat" LOL
