From the British Stainless Steel Association website:
"The austenitic and ferritic ’18/8′, ’18/10′ and ’18/0′ stainless steels cannot be hardened by heat treatment and so can only be used for knife handles, forks and spoons."
What you have there is a sharpened spoon handle.

I’m an Australian journalist (and a big fan of the channel) - deal with defamation law all the time. The basic rule is that companies with more than 10 employees can’t sue for defamation in Australia, even if you’re slagging off the business and not the product.
While I am not a lawyer, I am reasonably confident a knife cannot sue for defamation :)
If, as I am guessing is the case, Huusk has no Australian presence - no registered business name etc - they probably don’t have standing to sue anyway.
They’re just trying to get the negative review taken down with a bullsh*t pretext. F*ck ‘em.

I've worked for Knife Shop Australia for over 2 years until I moved country last month, and every time Huusk started doing a bunch of advertising, we would get a million calls asking if we sold them. Unfortunately it was often older folks, and I felt like they were totally being taken for a ride. We got one in for sharpening and the sharpener thought it was absolutely tragic steel

I have always searched for the right adjective for bad knife steel. I have felt it when trying to sharpen a $5 Walmart knife and the steel sort of sticks to the stone instead of being cut like a respectable steel, like it was partially hardened clay. But I did not know the right word.

The Victorinox was my first “real” kitchen knife, and really opened my eyes as to why a good chefs knife is important. I have since added a couple of different brands as funds have allowed (Wusthof is my favorite so far).
I would add that in addition to the Victorinox, would be to purchase a honing rod to realign the edge between sharpening. It makes all the difference when doing meal prep.
Great video, glad to see you call out these manufacturers of knife inspired products.

Edit: PS I bought a Victorinox chef's knife and a couple of other types more than 40 years ago, and it's still going. However, what I lacked for decades was good advice on sharpening it. I eventually got that from my local butcher, but their was a dearth of helpful, every day, practical advice. I have a couple of modest-cost knives that only receive modest kitchen use. They don't need attention from a dedicated knife-sharpening system. A sub-£10 water stone is OK, and much better than nothing.

I bought one for its general shape, thinking it won't be worse than generic cheap knives.
    1. The hollow grind has nice potential for sharpness, but it only thins down to about 1mm. This is still quite thick, and a lot of material needs to be removed when this knife needs sharpening. As you also observed, the blade getting thick so close to edge is
    2. The final cutting edge is sharpened to a whopping 90 degrees, maybe slightly above. I observed this with a magnifier, as well as a macro lens (capable of 1:1 imaging). That's 45 degrees per side, as opposed to 12-15 degrees per side for good quality knives.
    3. It took me a while to understand the material description, when it says "stainless steel (18/10 electroplated)". Electroplating is a method of covering a material (metal) with another one, more resistant to corrosion. So it occurs to me that the "stainless steel" might be only a thin layer on surface, and once it is sharpened, the edge exposes whatever is on the inside, unprotected from rust.
    4. Maximum rated hardness for this steel is marginally below anything that can be considered a knife. I tried the file test on the edge, and it bites in. Not much (the file itself isn't great quality and has rather fine teeth), but it bites. On my main chef knife, it skates.

My institutional user account and email has all these codes, firewalls and logon verification systems, and a lot of the functions you have to be physically on campus to use. It generally works pretty good in terms of eliminating scammers and spammers. Still every once in a while something, particularly persistent slips through net. One more recent one, which not surprisingly turned up after I watched some critical videos about this abominable product - was a sales pitch for Huusk knives, proclaiming them to be among the best kitchen knives in the world. Clearly a piece of modern literature that every educator needs in their institutional inbox on a regular basis. An effing Huusk knife ad. Right now on the Spam & Scam top 10 - it’s between that, an automated audio-transcriber that looks like a cheap Casio keyboard from the early 80s - and a set of lovingly crafted hearing aids from, India - Jewel of the Empire.

Just recently fell down this rabbit hole. I've been collecting hand made knives for over a decade, and this is just an education/life experience issue. The biggest red flag for me is the price. You will never be able to pick up a hand forged knife, regardless of the country of origin, for under $600, close to double once you get into damascus steel. It's also never going to be stainless. A quality hand forged blade is always going to be high carbon steel. Yes it takes more care, due to rust, but it's going to hold an edge far longer than stainless. All of my kitchen knives are high carbon feather damascus and they are amazing knives to work with. But I also worked in kitchens for most of my adult life, so knew early on what a good knife is.
The design would be acceptable for a camp knife, but not a daily driver for the majority of kitchen use.
I recently put in a custom order with Zoe Crist, an amazing craftsman and all around amazing human being, for a small feather damascus blade with ebony scales and a damascus bolster. It's more an EDC knife, but will be used as a camp knife too. Blade length is about 5". Over $1100CDN/$950 US. Substantially less in stainless, which he only uses for more affordable knives and definitely not pot steel. He uses A2 tool steel for his outdoor blades and CPM 20CV for his kitchen knives.

Straight up, if a company uses legal actions, or threaten with them over an unprovoked negative review, they KNOW their product is trash or snake oil... and maybe to a lesser extent, if your only marketing is through social media, you're looking specifically to prey on less informed consumers who are easily influenced.
I suppose a video takedown over "defamation" isn't technically legal, but I'd argue a bit with that, since it cuts off or negates a revenue stream a creator might be receiving for the video. If the company is in the wrong or abusing the system, I'd consider that (albeit minimally) theft of legitimate revenue, or theft of the creator's time at the very least.

Knives interest me. Especially knifes for the kitchen. I bought my first Japanese Chef knife from Hattori around 30-40 years ago. That was long before the Kill Bill film 2 where Mr Hattori himself played the knife maker. Since then I have 3 more from them. I sharpen them with a cheramic rod and have them never been sent for sharpening. The keep the the edge retention great but don't use them for things like cutting in bones or chopping down a chicken to smaller pieces. The hardiness of Japanese kitchen knives are very hard. But they slice through all soft things like butter. My oldest kitchen knife from 1980 that is a Sabatier carbon steel chef knife.. A good slicer but doesn't keep the edge that long. However can could to things chicks and dugs bone and never roll an edge or get e damage on the edge. The best kitchen knife in the world adverts we have presumably seen all over the world. The Husk. I like to cook food and I go crazy when my kitchen knives are dull. I even sometimes bring a cheap Sabatier out in the woods because it performs better. I have a great Joker Nessmuk flat grind that handle food prep. pretty well. But when you compare it with a cheap Sabatier chef knife it is far behind. Maybe someone can reprocess the steel from the Husk knifes in the world. If you buy good knifes they last you a lifetime with maintenance. The Husk knife is garbage and if you know an excellent knife you understand from performance the the Husk should be recycled. In Japan and Europe we seems to like like thin slice blades. I see sometimes videos from experts from US or Australia about preparing food. And I always wonder why the don't get a proper chef knife.

It’s sad to see our social media today flooded with this type of advertising and seemingly preferring the all mighty dollar over any opposition. It’s great to see people like yourself fighting back. While I’m sure your response was well thought out, I think you’re “show me, don’t tell me” philosophy would play better...

A lot of review channels have had at least one or two issues with bogus takedown requests. Most of the time it's copyright based, but defamation isn't unheard of especially for physical products.
Not much you can do other than contest the claim, unfortunately

I almost felt a little bit let down how measured and mature you were towards Huusk there, but I can appreciate why you have no interest in dealing with their defamation shit-fuckery. Good on you for standing up to them.
On a separate note, when it comes to kitchen knives I used to buy mainstream branded options or occasionally treat myself to something a bit more special from Japan. This changed when a butcher friend of mine gifted me a very bland looking boning out knife from his commercial butcher's supplier - I still have it nine years later and it is one of the most delightful tools in my kitchen. It was so sharp out of the box that I accidentally sliced straight through the side of the packaging and neatly sliced the dome of my knuckle flesh clean off on my right forefinger (the bone was showing) but didn't notice until I felt blood streaming down my arm. Now I make the pilgrimage to that butcher's supplier in Hull whenever I'm back in the UK and pick up whatever I need. Not flashy, fancy or cheap but sweet baby Jesus they are incredible knives for the money.

Such a shame because I know he’s gonna stop using them once he realizes they’ve gone to shit after cutting a couple pieces of meat. My mom has destroyed several sets of high quality knives and thinks they are done for after they’ve lost their edge.

Happened to me as well with my content. Got a strike as well and UA-cam support were useless. 90 days have expired and regardless of all the info I provided they sided with Huusk. The complaint was defamation originally which could only be blocked in Lithania, the second was a counterfeit claim which is where I got the strike. This is what Huusk do and UA-cam legal teams don't want the hassle.

Pete what about the excellent value Ikea knives in vg10. I have a complete set and value for money they are great. My edc is ukpk in S110v at the moment, vg10 is no s110v but the Ikea knives have good edge retention and are great value. I have been using victorinox knives for 45years, about ten years of that commercially, and still have a draw full, they are excellent value and very common in commercial kitchens and abattoirs. I also have spyderco kitchen knives but I really like the Ikea briljera knives. Thanks for your review on the briljera knives which led to buy my first one and then the rest of the set. I also really appreciate your honest opinion about crap knives made out of pot steel. We all watch UA-cam for opinions about everything from current affairs to holiday destinations and beyond. If your video highlighting your honest opinion, and other similar videos were not available on UA-cam then it wouldn't be worth watching. Keep up the good work.

I ordered a Huusk knife a couple of weeks ago and made a mistake and click on the additional four knife bundle and when I tried to delete the bundle it sent the order. So I ended up with five knives.I thought I'll just give them away as gifts to family. When they arrived I was shocked to see the fit and finish of the handles are extremely poor. The handles have no protective finish on them and of the 5 knives 3 have handles the are so loose they rattle when you shake the knife. the rivets were not set properly and are misshapen. I could never give this crap away as a gift. The knife itself is not as sharp as advertised and the blade is too thick to easily cut an onion. I have purchased a Misen chef knife and it is far better quality and the sharpest knife I have ever used. Do not made the mistake I have made stay away from this piece of junk. I reached out to Huusk customer service to try and get a refund but have not received any response.

I 100% guarantee that the site was set up specifically into scamming people into bundles to steal as much money - that they'll never return - as possible. The nickel-plated clay they're probably made of, by slave children in Chinese factories with suıcıde netting, just for them to be dropshipped to your door, isn't worth the cost of the return envelope. It certainly isn't worth the cost to hire someone to read & reply to emails that probably go to a dead box, I'm afraid.

My sister got suckered into buying 1 of these and asked if I could sharpen it. The edge was the most horrible thing I’ve ever seen on an edged tool ….. I got out my box of Diamond stones and water stones and just gave up after about a half hour of sharpening the thing. When I sharpen an old rusty hatchet it’s far easier. I just told her it was junk and to throw it away.
