Fuck yeah. Turn it up!!!!!
It’s that time again my friend.
Classic masterpiece at that

That tribute at the beginning speaking for us southern folks is such a true statement that ppl forget about grunge music. I was raised in it im 32, all 90s music was such a gift. Were the last of them buddy
I truly wish I coulda experienced the 80s-90s so bad man.
Nothing to do with the south. Us up north in Indiana grew up on this
Yall are already implied. I was talking about it being nice for someone to recognize how big it was in our area as well
So you were 8 when the 90's ended? You even remember it? It was my favorite era that's for sure. I was out singing in bands and drinking and getting wild in the 90's, but I'm a tad older. Either way it was a great era non the less and I
I'm glad you like it too and got to experience what you did!
It's just a backwoods thing my man. I was raised in the country in the Midwest and we also jam out to everything in between.
I usually hate covers of this song but church did it justice 🥺 💯💯
I love seeing a younger generation into Alice in Chains.... fuck yea, warms this old heart.

F**KING AWESOME...........takes some balls to do a cover of one of the best vocalists of all time and you sir absolutely nailed it!!!!
I never thought someone could do this song justice as a cover. Boy was I wrong! Brought me chills like the original
Yeah he did!
#ohfukyeah!
Fantastic job! Very well done. Layne would be estatic.
I have said that absolutely NO ONE could replace Layne. You have proven me wrong. Alice in Chains should hire you to be their lead singer. Absolutely incredible! Kudos!

When I first heard Ryan sing this song, I was homeless after my children were taken by the state. I didn't have anything left in me to fight but I wasn't ready to give up. Here I am 15 months later, I signed a lease for an apartment for a year with enough room for my children. I still see them three times a week and Im fighting harder than I ever have for them. I managed to keep employment even though I lived in my car for 5 months. Thank you for your help to inspire me through this song and ur music.
Update: My 6 year old with be back in my custody full time on October 20, 2020. I have been fighting so hard but its so worth the fight. He has been with me 4 days a week.I'm still fighting for the others and it shouldnt be long. Thank you for all the positive comments. I really appreciate all the love and support. For you assholes that said negative comments or said I was a junkie, it was actually because of their father. He was an alcoholic, I had no choice but to leave my children with him while I went to work! DCF was notified that my children were in the care of an alcoholic and they were taken the next day. Its been about 2 years and I'm closer than ever to getting my children back ❤
Amazing!!! Good momma .... get your babies and never look back!!! Proud of you. Much love... ♡
Me too, same situation. Lost my kids to the state and I'm fighting to get them back, and I've been listening to this song over and over. It has helped so much. So I know whatcha mean
I am going through the same thing. I know exactly how all of you feel. Absolutely loves Upchurch's version of this song ❤
Darcy Rose Wilson keep fighting, never give up.

Used to listen to this song years back when I had nothing, fishing to catch food, struggling all around and now I sit here with a job finally, bills are paid and no more drugs listening to this song with a smile because I pulled through
Hell yeah, keep walking that line

Same here, it's a great cover of a song very difficult to match vocally. But also the guitar solo is really good too.

Damn dude you definitely hit the nail on the head with this one, thanks man it really means so much to hear a southern bro singing this from his own
Awesome job church. Almost 2024 & still jamming to this❤
Layne Staley was the definition of a one and only. This song cuts to the bone, and got me through some real dark days in my life. I appreciate your cover, for it is incredible.
Yes
Yes sir Layne's my idol.
love seeing replies like this :) I'm sure Layne would appreciate
This song got me through 2 years of covid-19 isolation God bless
Big shoes to fill taking on this song. Honestly have a pretty closed mind when it comes to people covering this song but damn Ryan did a good job here
Me too Andrew. I am amazed at how good he did this. I loved Layne, so I don't usually like covers but he nailed it.
Aaron Lewis did a pretty good cover of it too, look it up
Dallas Green does my favorite cover of this song. Layne is my favorite vocalist of all time
Exactly my feelings
Ues he did
In memory of Layne Staley! We live on through that beautiful voice! Good stuff Ryan!
Me !!! ♥️💚
Upchurch is one of the most talented artists today. Great cover.
I had no idea Upchurch was on this level vocally. Beautiful performance
Same. Came correct af
Have a like
Damn, I don't get into rap really or hip hop but I can respect this guy. And you got a voice!! Nailed it.
If Layne was a southern boy, this is EXACTLY how this song would have originally sounded....
Check out rooster
As a person who loves Layne and Alice In Chains, I also was heavily addicted to heroin and crack cocaine for over 12 years. Today I am 31 years young and am five and half years clean and sober and this young pulls on my heart so much. Upchurch you’re the man brother for recreating this master piece of a song!!!
Stay clean my friend!
Stay strong. Jesus saves
Congratulations uk u give this struggling drug addict hope that you can beat it if you want it bad enough but uk I've spent all my adult life a drug addict and I don't know if I'm meant to do anything else I know that's a bad thing to say
@@michaelhowell9990 6 years ago I thought the same thing brother… I know that feeling. But again it has to start with the desire to change champ. It’s cliche but it’s true my man. Sometimes turning to others and asking for help may be the only option left. Prayers sent brother and if no one told you they love you today I will 💪🏻🙏🏻
God bless. I started out on tabs, moved to herion, then moved to subcu in my legs. Got on methadone worst place to go. Got on suboxone for like 8yrs and detox myself off. Horrible.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a fan of most of your music Ryan, but I’ve never heard somebody come this close to emulating Layne Staley. This is impeccable.

It's so hard to cover Alice, but this nails it. The emotion is there in full. A brilliant tribute.
Well I guess
yeah with all producers work and auto tune. this is a disappointment to them
@@BJAntonio46 I don't hate people using pitch correction. I hate that there are so many people that somehow can't hear it even when it's aggressive as hell.
I agree he killed it!!!!!❤
One of my fav covers
Greatest song ever made. I’m 23 grew up all my life with it. And this songs some up how I’ve felt all my life. And I still have no one to cry too and no place to call home…
Upchurch…I don’t know if you read these but you singing this song save my life. I posted a few years ago and the love and support is overwhelming! From a disabled veteran….thank you!
My dad was my best friend. He passed away on May 8, 2010 to an overdose. I was 17. Today, July 16, 2018 would be his 53rd birthday.
He loved Layne Staley, and I grew up around this music playing constantly: we lived outdoors for the most part; camping, hiking, fishing, etc. His last few years, he lived in a trailer park in Snohomish, WA, and I was away from him mostly because of my mom.
But when I was with him, we spent so much time around the fire at the river, with our fishing poles in the water, our Mexican buddies lighting up joints, all of us just having a blast. Every time I hear this song I'm instantly brought back to the river, to the bonfires, to a comforting memory of my father holding me closely as a teenager, a kid.
I really love this.
Update: 2020 this song still brings me to tears every time ❤️ amazing I've found the community of love in a UA-cam comment section is all the comfort you need sometimes when life gets hard
Damn that is badass I live in Idaho and I have been through that area

My absolute favorite version of this song. @ryanupchurch did it best. I love you Bro. ❤️
Begone thot. Sell your OF elsewhere.
Fkn ehhh
I normally hate songs covered by another artist but he absolutely killed this!
Layne has a crazy vocal range and Church nailed it.
Same
😂 it's fucking autotuned.
@@whatabouttheearth Instagram filters to make you look like you're hot, pitch correction to make it sound like you can sing...what a time to be alive.
@@Jackzay90
Some people don't play that shit, you should check out Corey Taylors interview absolutely blasting artists who use Pro Tools with auto tune on stage
I know. I don't even hate people using pitch correction. It's used subtly to correct minor intonation issues on virtually every studio recording for decades now. What I hate is there are so many people who somehow don't hear it even when it's aggressive as hell like this. It can be used artistically, but this is an example of it being used to try to make someone who can't sing sound like they can.@@whatabouttheearth
My wife left and i don't know how to win her back or even where to start. Just ran across this and it hits hard bro. Thanks for covering one of my favorites so many years ago, still my favorite cover.
Love you man....I feel what you're going through....even if she don't return the love brother, it will come back to you. Promise
He spoke to your soul, not gonna lie when I seen you did a remake I was like no he don't have the voice for that. Then I listened and said holy shit he nailed it.
You nailed this, and that's saying a lot. Because Layne Staley could really sing. I never thought anyone could cover this song, but you really did it justice. It was beautiful.
I agree with you Kris Ager
Maynard does it better.
This had me bawling. I love AIC so much, especially this song. I have to say, I think Layne would love this tribute. You nailed it Ryan, well fucking done.
10-4
I agree with mother of hounds and the others I lilked there response
i couldnt agree more, well said
Upchurch called addicts like layne the lowest of the low. Layne wouldn’t want some half assed cover by someone who thinks like that.
@@Ep0nz You know what? Addicts are the lowest of the low sometimes. The thing is, they are still people and they can change and they can atone for the things they did wrong. It's really difficult to be the loved one of an addict. Think about Layne's Mom, she found him 2 weeks after he died. Layne systematically set up his life so he could feed his addiction and die on his own terms. That's really selfish too.Layne was a very sick man but I love him to this day and always will. Ryan understands all of this. Seems to me the only person who doesn't understand this, is you.
I am an addict in long term recovery, I just celebrated 9 years on May 12th. I am still, all these years later, gaining back trust and respect of the people I hurt the most. Nobody thinks as a kid "When I grow up, I want to be a heroin addict". You have no clue what Layne would want. None whatsoever.
The amount of times I cried to you singing this song can’t be counted. It’s my favorite, you, AIC, it’s so deep and my favorite tattoo.
And yet I fight this battle all alone,
No one to cry to,
No place to call home
Still playing this masterpiece of a cover. Keep killing it Churchman.
Holy Shit Ryan, This is hands-down the absolute best cover I’ve ever heard of this song and the best cover of Layne Staley’s voice I’ve ever heard bro. I really hope that Jerry Cantrell has seen this
I agree!!!
I like it better than the original hands down best cover iv heard
@@jessenash33 alright slow down my dude, better than the original, not close.
Layne Staley is n was one of true most talented vocalist to walk our planet and while this is great. Auto tune n effects r all over it, Layne sang JoF in like 1 take per song.

Layne would probably come up and shake your hand and say thank you. Thank you for keeping real music ALIVE! I'm coming up on my 1 year celebration of recovery from IV Heroin and Fentanyl and this song is what got me through the worst of my detox and mental battle for months after getting clean. I quit cold turkey and vanished from the earth to try and give myself one last chance at freedom and this song kept me pushing.
Thank you Upchurch. Your cover gives me chills like I just heard it for the first time every single time I listen to it. It's a multiple times a day thing for me now! 🙏😇💯❤️💪

This song hits me so hard for Layne now that he is gone. I’m amazed that anyone could do such a good job covering it. Thanks
wow. This cover hits hard. As a disabled veteran who suffers from PTSD, Anxiety and sever depression these words hold so true. I was never and I mean never an Alice in Chains fan although I knew of their music. This is by far the best cover I have ever heard. I listen to it every day and it just keeps getting better and better. Thank Ryan for keeping it real! As long as you lay down the tracks folks like me will keep on listening.

I lost my parents a month apart from each other in 2021 and this song really somehow hit different. Felt like I shared that pain with someone 💔. Thanks upchurch! Keep on keepin on
Rest In Peace. My sincerest condolences, friend. They're forever right there with you, I hope you're able to find some peace in this life. It never gets easier, the grief of such a loss. We simply grow strong enough to continue moving while carrying that burden. Much Love
🙏🏻
Sorry for your loss 😔

This song will always remind me of my dad, gosh I miss him so much but he hurt us too much he wouldn’t listen when we’d beg and cry... will continue to pray for him and have a relationship with him through God. He’s facing almost 35 years , trial is coming up. This is so hard man.
I'm so glad I grew up in this era. We had some really great artist that left us way to early back then. Great Job Upchurch on the cover.
I remember listening to Alice almost 30 years ago OG. You, young sir, have nailed this song. I just started listening to your tunes Ryan and I'm impressed bro...

I agree! He’s got skills!
Same instant fan. And I'm not a fan of many things. This is saying something.
