came across some zippos my father had before he passed, this was a really good refresher since it's been many years since I used one. very straightforward and good video 👍
Just got my 2 old zippos out and got them working again. I watched your video and I did everything you did except the trick 😊one is 53 years old and the other one is 16.
Great video. ✌🔥 Yeah, I'm one of those weird guys who runs the wick up the middle in an "S" shape sandwiched between the cotton. Two pieces on each side.
@@JRO_Lights Dear JRO_Lights Great video. Do you know if I can tighten the joint so that my Zippo doesn't just open on its own? Like if I happen to turn it upside down, it'll just open w/o me flipping it open. I don't expect you to know but thought I'd ask. Thank you JRO_Lights.
Zippo recommends this method when rewicking yet they come from the factory just jammed to one side lol. I always pull the cotton out and redo it right when I get a new one
I just came back from Switzerland and Italy and I bought 2 zippo lighters! I was wondering why it wasnt working but now I know. Thx for the help. Hopefully I don’t mess up lol!
Jumped into mine for the hell of it. Wrapped it up the middle best I could, pulled that wick out a bit n snipped it. Huge flame and now I know something that could come in handy. Thanks for the video
@JRO_Lights I didn't know that, me being paranoid, I'd probably throw in 2 more flints inside the zippo just on case I'm stuck somewhere for an extended period of time
Just got a new Zippo and was pretty excited until i thought it sorta sucked when I just filled it up and tried to use it. Watched your video because I figured someone out there knew how to do it right and turns out I was correct. Got my new Zippo running like a clock. Even set the wick so I can do the flame trick you show at the end, nice bonus. good video thanks
My tip for those whose lighters seem to evaporate fuel quickly: I don't carry mine in my pocket so I keep it in a small Ziploc plastic bag when I'm not going to use it for a while and especially overnight.
I just got my first Zippo lighter. Thank you for this video and the flame trick at the end was cool. I can't wait to get some lighter fluid and try that trick. 👍🏻 Thanks again!!! I just read through the comments and I never knew people collected Zippos. I have a rechargeable insert and a regular one. I actually got both from collecting points from packs of Marlboro.
Congratulations! You’re goin love it, if you have any questions feel free to reach out. Zippo collecting is a fun hobby, so tread carefully. Next thing you have 2…..3…..4…..5…. 100…. 200… 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for the comment!
what do you mean by messed it up take the wick out as in the start of this video, grabbing it and pulling it out from the bottom, then just let it dry if it ever happens again
🙂 Nice! Just a couple of questions: If I need to add more cotton into an older Zippo, can I just use some cotton balls from the supermarket? And with the wick, how would it go if I wound it around the flint tube instead of the S pattern you showed? Thanks! 😊
If you need to replace your fuel tank rayon fillings inside a Zippo, you can use tampon fillings as substitutes. As in, cannibalize a lady hygiene device and use the liquid absorbing materials from a tampon inside your Zippo. This material retains fluid very well and is well suited for the job. Don't over-stuff the fuel tank with cotton. If you pack it in too densely, the fluid will have nowhere to go, and this reduces the lighter's service time per top up. You'll want the cotton to have a little bit of room to expand. It's not a good idea to wrap the wick around the flint tube. This is a very tight and cramped space, it makes removing the wick later harder and more difficult, and this is not the best position for the wick to absorb fluid from the fuel tank. So ideally, zig-zagged or not, you'll want the wick to be in the middle of the fuel tank.
Thanks for watching. You don’t necessarily need to do all of this for it to “work.” You can take a brand new Zippo and throw fuel in it and it will “work.” However, if you want to maximize its performance and work how it is meant to, yes this is the best way to do it.
Different Lighter fluid shouldn’t be a problem. I would personally stick with using zippo wicks. I have heard some people use hemp wick beeswax twine, but have not seen how it holds up
@@JRO_Lights sorry for the sudden reply again, but, I have a little problem with the insert. For some context, I was out of town for a few days and left my zippo at home. BUT, I must've forgotten to put the insert back onto the case since when I went back the insert was just lying in the floor, and with closer inspection, the little hinge was broken. I'm not sure what it's called exactly but after I found out that the little hinge on the insert was broken I just didn't use it for the time being since I thought it would be kinda dangerous with the case not staying closed
@@crustytomatosoup737 Oh no! If you live in the states you can send your Zippo in and they will provide you with a new insert. It would still be safe to use. The true purpose of the case is to extinguish the flame. It’s inability to maintain fully close wouldn’t affect anything. The only thing the damaged insert effects would be the click or how the case closes. Best solution, send it in to Zippo or put in a different insert. 😁
@@JRO_Lights unfortunately I don't live in the states anymore since my family moved a long time ago. I would order a new insert but it's quite expensive from where I live. Is there a way that I can attach the hinge on the insert without restricting it's movement? Depends on how much you use it. Depends on brand of fuel, amount of wick length, and if you “weaved” the wick throughout the lighter. From those who do on the regular May refill every 2-3 days. Without using mine regularly it lasts up to a week or maybe 2 weeks. (That’s pushing it but it has happened)

Eliminate the felt, add more cotton in its place, slip a piece of the bottom of a sandwich bag over the end to seal and slide insert back into case. Your lighter will last 2x longer. You’re welcome. 😎

You don't need a tool for screw. Just use the zippo case. Pro tip.
@@Chinook__ Pro Tip: You’ll bend the case (especially if it’s in there tight or hasn’t been unscrewed before)
@JRO_Lights been doing it for 20 years
A piece of nilon wraps the two sides of the zippo tube around the bottom to help the zippo avoid scratching the tube and hold gasoline longer
Teflon tape thread sealant.
Instead of the penny I've been using the lid of the case woops....
Yea, I used to do that, but you gotta be careful. To much torque could damage the case. That spring can be in there tight.
