Last year was my freshman year of high school and i started vaulting in outdoor. My pr for the season was 11'. When i first started i couldn't clear 5'. This video helped me work on my form, and helped me improve.
Excellent video. I find it especially touching that you made sure to get shots of the athletes before they start their run. If you've ever vaulted, you know that looking down that runway at that pit can be a daunting experience... you need as much composure there as you do when you plant and go up. Again, nice vid
pole vaulting is so kick ass. this video is pretty freakin sweet. just checkin out some different styles before my meet tomorrow. i have a hell of a time starting my turn. i always start it way too late.
yeah baby! this is my favourite video in youtube. I saw it a thousand times, again and again! It never gets boring! Thanks for the video, it's the best video ever!!!!!
1:53 is a vault at Seward, NE. They hold a massive celebration for the 4th of July and they have a street vault every year, one of the longest running in the nation. I go to college there :)
I'm going into Hgihschool next year.. and I want to take this sport on. Cause I know when you clear the Height of the pole, it's the best feeling in the world..
Im in 10th grade and this is my first year in pole vaulting. my PR is 10 ft. Just a week ago, i started to keep my left arm straight and now i am progressing very fast.
one of the hardest things about polevault is switching to a longer pole, cause the take-off step is farther back and feels awkward, but other than tht it's easy and fun
Oh god I love pole vaulting. When I was doing it I had a broken wrist and messed up knees and I kept doing it. Bad idea I still did it. I need to get back into it. Im by far not the best but for being in 9th grade I didn't do to bad. Im sure I could do better now. I could do some cool shit when the coach wasn't around though.
Not bad. not bad. vaulting is one of those things that really just takes time. its not that hard just repetition. as you progress things just start becoming natural
The jump at the end of the run is 1 of the most important parts. u can do it with out much of a jump but it doesnt work as well u might get yanked back or have a harder time getting in, the higher u jump the better the pole roles over. at 2:27 the vaulter has a nice jump great bend at it rolled over nice. u can vault with a little jump but its better and u will go higher with a biger jump. my opinion the jump and plant r the most important things if u dont get them right its hard to do the rest
best feeling in the world when you complete your height. im so sad this is my last year in the pole vault. darn, this track season will have to be my best, lets see if i can beat my dad, he did 16'6" im at 15' lol
Ha, I slipped down the pole during a plant once, like the guy at 0:16. It was raining, and my pole got wet, but I tried anyways, resulting in an upside-down sprint-jump into the pit. I was lucky I didn't hit the back of my head on the vault box. I think my coach said polevaulting had the highest mortality rate of any sport, even football.
HOLD ON TO THE POLE NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. it will save your life, or at least from broken bones many times. also, focus on doing drills more than actually jumping. look up drills online that you can do with a stubbie (short pole about 2-3 feet long). (even a broom stick will work.)
thats harsh man but still funny. but actually i learned how to pole vault with a broom stick like the last 3 steps when u have it by ur side and quickly go to a pressing position. it works
its because of the material the pole is made out of fiber glass and carbon fiber have properties that allow them to bend and go back to the orginal shape
@hievdrumlinein09 vault spikes provide more support in the heel for your take off. where as a sprint spike has more of a rounded heel which could lead to a twisted ankle. the ONLY pole vault spikes are the PV lites by nike, but long jump spikes are designed very similar if you wanted to give those a try.
well, i'm 16 and i've been vaulting for a year and a month and have got 14', but i'm only just in the top 10 for my age in the UK. it's not good, but give it time and not only will it be good, it'll be god :D
ahh my coach won't let me do pole vaulting because i recently injured my back(muscle strain) doing some pole vault workouts and sprints. I am really sad, i have to stick with distance for the season... I want to fly with colors :( My back is feeling all right now. Maybe next season i'll try pole vaulting again
well You actually want to pull the bottom in when you get to the top and keep the top hand as outstretched as possible as you bring your hips above your shoulders... Do drills where you "swing" normally into the pit with a decent grip and hold on to the pole - the way to land (with top hand near knees and bottom hand near head) is the way you want to look as you get to the top and turn over.
I was a distance running in track, but I always spent my down time watching my vaulter friends. Such an amazing sport.
best compilation ever!!!!! i have been watching this for 5 years now...it gets me in the zone!

pole vaulting is one of the all time greatest sports. There's always more to learn and it's shit load of fun!
First year pole vaulting, I LOVE THIS just wish I had started when I was a freshman instead of a junior
Among all the sports athletics is the best!
And among the athletic events pole vault is the best!!
That's so simple.
just started pole vaulting n watching this makes me so pumped and at the same time so nervous
Excellent video. I find it especially touching that you made sure to get shots of the athletes before they start their run. If you've ever vaulted, you know that looking down that runway at that pit can be a daunting experience... you need as much composure there as you do when you plant and go up.
Again, nice vid

These guys are amazing. And I love the background music
it looks so cool when they're up in the air... great sport
Their form is... so beautiful...
pole vault is like the entire decathlon in one event.
Minus the 1500m ofc, but who cares about long distance anyways....
POLE VAULT IS EPIC
Ahhh, half that footage is what scares me about pole vaulting.
But it's still really fun. I can't wait for track season!
im going 13' 6'' and i love to listen to this song to get me ready to vault!
this is getting me pumped for track to start again, last year i got 10 ft, and it was my first year
