the song during the competition was "nougayork" from Claude Nougarou, a french artist. There were also other songs during the competition, but I don't managed to recognised it. The song of the video is one from the music from the motion picture of Matrix.
Exactly 17 times outdoor and 18 times indoor record holder and 6 times world champion. The 6 m. 15 cm. in this video is not logged as world record as it was achieved indoors. Officially the men's pole vault record is Bubka's 6 m. 14 cm. achieved at Sestriere, Italy in 1994.
Yes that is very cool, anyone looking at this now should check on Mondo DuPlantis vaulting 20'5" ... he has a long time to celebrate on the way down and he takes full advantage 😃
I witnessed the iron curtain myself as a young American in the early 80's. I wish I could have travelled to Donetsk to witness a record that has not been broken for over 20 years and probably won't be broken for a long time
Great video !!! Someone know what was the pole vaulter list of the competition? From the flags, I quickly saw 4 pole vaulters from Ukraine, one from Italia, two from France, two from USA, and others... Of course, I recognized S. Bubka and also S. Huffmann... but who were the others (espacially the french pole vaulters)? Thanks
I met him near this time at the american consulate in Rio de Janeiro. I still have his autograph on his business card. He was wearing either a t shirt or polo and shorts. I first thought to myself "look at the fucking muscles on this dude"! Then I learned it was Bubka. His muscles were unusual. Absolutely ripped! Not like a body builder ripped. He was truly ripped!
=D Yea buena onda el video, quisera saber si ay una pagina para descargarlo en alta calidad o si es tu creacion me lo podrias pasar, espero una respuesta, gracias Atte, México
i love pole vaulting. ive been studying bubka alot and wanna vault jsut like him but so does every other polevaulter. ive been pole vaulting 2 days is clearing 8 feet good?
@874Luke make sure you are really swinging your leg high and getting vertical. put the bar up high at practice and try to get your feet above your head to kick down the bar
That first guy at 4:39 is scott huffman isn't it? You never really see any videos of him vaulting without 'the roller'. I know he could efficiently vault both ways.
Maybe one other US pole vaulter was Tarpenning, and one from URSS (or Russia, or Unified Team... it's difficult to know because it was the period of troubles) Krasnov. These ideas are based from the pole vaulters list at Barcelona in 1992 and other results I found on the web during the period 1991 to 94. If someone could confirm or complete?
@EnJoker1 The audience in the beginning was really small, I didn't notice that it was packed in the end there, I was probably distracted by bubka haha. But needless to say... it is depressing that football, basketball, etc... teams pack stadiums 10 times bigger than that every weekend. There are a lot of sports like track and field that don't get as much publicity and don't grow as much because they are overshadowed by "spectator" sports. nothing against any form of athletics, im just sayin
Mesnil??? Impossible, in 1993 he was 16 years old, and vaulted only 4.30m at this time. I have also doubt about Gibilisco... he was 14 years old in 1993 !!! But it could be Gianni Iapichino ??? At the beginning of the 90's the best french pole vaulters were Collet, D'Encausse, Baudouin, Galfione (but yes, he was not at Donetsk in 93)... Maybe Baudouin and D'Encausse were at Donetsk... some pole vaulters in the video seemed similar
@dlucas90 i've never heard of that. why wouldn't he just break the record by 1 cm and clear it, rather than attempt at 2cm and bring the bar down? That's a loss of $50,000.
this guy was beast, he knew his sponsors would pay big $ everytime he broke the record so he'd go like 2 foot over the world record in practice and like 1inch in competition so he made bank every couple months. Single smartest athlete in the world. EVER
Thank you so much!!! I was so curious, because I know G. Baudouin... and I didn't that he participated to the competition where the WR was done. Thanks for posting this great video and also to the person who gave you the original. PVjules Check my vids ;)

Just amazing how long his indoor and outdoor records stood before being broken!
I really like how even the referee jumps out of the chairs at 8:08 :)
Fantastic video! Thanks so much for posting :)

Clubbed to Death puts a nice initial touch to the rainy scene.
@Yodaismycopilot ya its was 6,14m outdoors 6,15m indoors
Pretty fucking great athlete.
i love it when they know they've made it, and start celebrating in mid air
Yes that is very cool, anyone looking at this now should check on Mondo DuPlantis vaulting 20'5" ... he has a long time to celebrate on the way down and he takes full advantage 😃

little did you know it got broken the year u made thay comment lol
Legendarische beelden!!
Mooi gemaakt Cees!
Génial!!! avec Claude Nougaro en fond :-)
incroyable
wow
It's cool to see bubka's jump sequence, he really had a lot of energy stored in that pole ha
ya thanks for posting the vid!! superb!
such a small stadium for such a huge historical event (in my opinion)!!!
the beautiful elegant sport..
he was holding a 14" hand grip, Its just amazing how he can straight pole with that high of a grip.
Great video !!!

Goat muscles
Fantastic man,fantastic country! Slava Ukraina!
Я там был!
thanx for naming the song. Found the MP3 on the internet !
bubka's record i am afrade will never be broken its just one of those things
Nice video.
At his 3rd attempt at 5m90, Sergey is using his hand to control the bar.
At that time it was authorised.
That is true and also the testing is much more sophisticated, so Bubda's record may never be broken.
@swingfire no, but in the warm up in the inversion drill he was holding at 4, thats what they meant
7:58 amazing pop of the pole with a full invert for maximum propulsion
Are you kidding me. This record has stood for 20 yrs now. You witnessed history
2013 and this record is still not broken
Amazing ! Renaud Lavillenie just made an incredible 6m16 sault ! France is so proud of its new legend !
ONE OF MY IDOLS
=D Yea buena onda el video, quisera saber si ay una pagina para descargarlo en alta calidad o si es tu creacion me lo podrias pasar, espero una respuesta, gracias
Atte, México
yes the 6.15m(world record) jump was in this video.
6:46 that must be the highest hip height in history!! The bars at 5.90. Looks higher than his 601 in 1997! :D
@PohTayToez thank you so much
There is more acceleration of the pole in the last few strides - downwards ie it stays high longer in the run up
20 years later...still unbeated...then...now...
i love pole vaulting. ive been studying bubka alot and wanna vault jsut like him but so does every other polevaulter. ive been pole vaulting 2 days is clearing 8 feet good?

Pole Vault is the best sport ever!:)
30 years later a lot of towns in the former Soviet block still look depressing - talking about the first shots in this video
one of my idols
I can't watch tis anymore dang
That first guy at 4:39 is scott huffman isn't it? You never really see any videos of him vaulting without 'the roller'. I know he could efficiently vault both ways.
this video is very motivational.
This seems really hard. How long does it take someone to be able to even just do the basic motion of placiung the pole down and flinging yourself up
@Yodaismycopilot Yes it was. 6.15 indoors, 6.14 outdoors
Спасибо за ностальгию !!!
@DanielGardnerPV it's in the related vids "inrol uit zespas..."
This looks like an indoor meet. Was Bubka's best performance indoors?
They make it look so easy
senior in highschool and i have won state 2 and my pr is 17'6 on my way :D
Maybe one other US pole vaulter was Tarpenning, and one from URSS (or Russia, or Unified Team... it's difficult to know because it was the period of troubles) Krasnov.

Brilliant!!
He was using a 17'4ft 235lb pole when he cleared that!!
I am only 4'8 and pole vaulting. I am in 8th grade and want to excel this year. What is a good height for me and how do I get to it?
@MrDeltaMaster
What's a black pole vaulter?
I was told he could push a 14' grip to verticle from 2 lefts so probably about that with a swing from 3.
KOZAKIEWICZ WŁADYSŁAW TO CZŁOWIEK LEGENDA
I vaulted 16'9" in 9th grade. 5'9" 165bls... It is still the state record to this day in Texas.
wow. so fast and strong. efficient take off, plant, swing and invert, amazing push off. please share your genes with me!
Anybody know how high bubka is gripping for the 3 step approach? Im guessing 13' 6''?
What song is he jumping too, his last one?
The greatest!!!
How did he set a world record at 6.15 in 1993 when the iaaf lists the world record as 6.14, set in 1994?
6:48 how did that even happen??
About how long are the poles they use?
Top of the world baby
@EnJoker1 The audience in the beginning was really small, I didn't notice that it was packed in the end there, I was probably distracted by bubka haha. what song is this
what song is this?
what is the name of this song?
whats the song???
discgolfer550 is probably right 14 feet sounds a lot too high to me for straight poling
love ole vault, started a month or so ago and im already jumping 180-190.
You can tell the heat was off during practice rounds in this arena. Everyone is in coats
What's this song?
We had to wait 21 years fir a new world record 6.16m I knew Renaud could do it!!!
AWESOME. He was "The Bube" before there was a Michael Buble.
Mesnil??? Impossible, in 1993 he was 16 years old, and vaulted only 4.30m at this time. I have also doubt about Gibilisco... he was 14 years old in 1993 !!! But it could be Gianni Iapichino ???

Most forgiving bar ever.
@dlucas90 i've never heard of that. why wouldn't he just break the record by 1 cm and clear it, rather than attempt at 2cm and bring the bar down? That's a loss of $50,000.
Today no more that records now is 6.17 m
@Yodaismycopilot yes the absolute world record is indoors and it was set by bubka
Ein Rekord für die Ewigkeit.Glaub nicht das da jemals wer den schlagen wird können.Das ist so unfassbar gut.
no the people that excel are the people that can control there step and pick there feet up
this guy was beast, he knew his sponsors would pay big $ everytime he broke the record so he'd go like 2 foot over the world record in practice and like 1inch in competition so he made bank every couple months. Single smartest athlete in the world. EVER
the first vault was scott huffman without the roll
damn I just wanted a clip of the vault not 9 minute film
8:10 even the ref celebrated lol
Is this good waiting for my slow internet connection?
Is this still the world record?
@handymannyyy my friend is about 5' 7" and he has cleared 14' 1" good luck
Thank you so much!!!
I was so curious, because I know G. Baudouin... and I didn't that he participated to the competition where the WR was done.
