Would these miniature radials sound more realistic if they were turning slower via the use of a higher-pitched prop? It seems that when they are idling at low RPM they have more of that "belching sound" that a real Pratt&Whitney's has.
I know a lot of folks love the sound evident in the in the RC version above , but correct me if I'm mistaken - it seems the engine is revving way past what a scale sound would call for, and you can hear the prop tips just starting approach cavitation/blade-tip-speed supersonic(?). It sounds more like a Triumph 2-cylinder motorcycle at high RPM on a highway (which sounds great by the way, but doesn't sound like a radial engine).
Lower RPM - higher/coarse pitch prop might reduce take-off or climb performance, but hey, these things are wildly overpowered compared to full-scale anyway. Perhaps a slower take-off acceleration and climb might be more scale-like anyways. Once the plane is in "cruise" and lack of performance would be negligible. Perhaps the reduction in "performance" might be worth the attainment of a more realistic radial rumble/growl in the air(?)
