Without a doubt my favorite installment of your series. Thank you for taking the time to fully break down lighting and design! I appreciate the work you put into your videos.
As a new realtor looking to get into Luxury homes. This video was awesome on explaining the different light sources. Definitely have my pen down writing notes
This concise and useful walk through lighting design techniques inspire me to create new lighting effects and custom fixtures in my home. I’m grateful for you sharing this.
I know it's not your intended audience, but this is actually remarkably helpful for minecraft with the "new path traced global illumation" shaders, that emulate natural light. Liked and subscribed, good stuff.
Where can someone hire a lighting designer? Do they even exist for small projects? Trying to replace my current recessed lighting in my dining room, kitchen, and hallways. I’ve tried doing my research on what high end builds use, and ended up on Lucent Lighting.
Excellent work. One issue: black trim increases contrast between light source. White trim helps diffuse light and decrease contrast. Black is more striking, more exciting, more dramatic and yields more glare.
The photographs in this presentation effectively reflect the content. Thank you for a great overview. I will be adding to my reference library for future use.
Very good. Would you make another video - the sequel :-) - focusing on LED lights and the employment of glass, acrylic and other materials in synch with the light fixtures??
Really can't get over how helpful your videos are. Will you be doing another live stream where you critique people's portfolios? would like to get involved with that
This is a fabulous slideshow and explanation of lighting concepts! Really, among the best I would say, and I have reviewed lots of lighting design videos and slideshows. The only thing is that I wish you referred to the brightness of space in terms of lumens. In only 5 years since this video was made, incandescent lamps have almost become historical artifacts so we really should not think in terms of watts per sq. ft. but rather lumens per s.f.
This video is packed with so much helpful information! So valuable, thank you!! I would buy a book of you analyzing/critiquing room's lighting no question. Thank you!
new subscriber here! been wanting to know if there's a light bulb or led light that gives off a natural sunlight feel? my room is situated in the center of my family house. while i do have windows on 2 walls, natural sunlight seeping in my room (coming from the other rooms) is very limited. as much as i want to have a skylight or have another part of my wall have a window, i couldn't coz my folks dont want it. hope u could help me. thank you!
Hi. I live in Mexico City. My house had lots of natural light which also made it warm. The house behind mine has been remodeled and is now so high that very little sun light comes into mine. I am sooo sad, I don´t know what to do (In Mexico every one can do almost anything....I have complained to the architect who has done this, to no effect). I am sure something can be done, can you help? thanks.
I heard recently LED lights were bad for your eyes, have you heard anything regarding this? Given we were moving towards using super low wattage LED lights in homes for the energy efficiency this would be a significant downside and obvious reason not to go down this path.
I think there's some misinformation about LEDs online, I haven't read a lot of studies that prove they're harmful to our eyes. That being said, I still use incandescents for most of my luminaires as I strongly dislike the light quality of LED bulbs even high CRI ones. I do use dimmers on everything and even though there's some efficiency loss dimming incandescents, it extends bulb service light whilst saving energy. It's optimal to tune lighting levels on a per client/space basis choosing bulb wattage based on use and client preference. This is because dimming a 75W bulb to 40W consistently uses more energy than just using a 40W bulb on full power. Hope that helps...
Light is light, there is no good or bad light, well.... don't watch someone welding metal, or stare at the sun! For LEDs make sure you get the right color temperature. For living spaces you might want to tend toward warmer color, incandescent is warm color temperature and people are used to that. Cool white might be useful in accents or specifically to induce a psychological effect or to match colors in the architecture.
The only problem i have heard of regarding led is the importance of correct sizing of the drivers which can flicker especially on large circuits with many lights. Leds can be very sharp and directional , but using enclosures ( coves, bounce shelves, etc.) can mitigate these short comings . I love Leds especially 2700 K in an edison style lamp.
yeah, I don't light my room by thinking about how much electricity to use. Converting LED wattage to incandescent wattage seems kind of pointless when we want to know how bright something should be.
Without a doubt my favorite installment of your series. Thank you for taking the time to fully break down lighting and design! I appreciate the work you put into your videos.
Cheers, you're quite welcome...! Thanks for watching...
Simply stated, you are a lighting genius. I really appreciate the time you put into your videos.

You have put lots of work in your videos. Thank you Sir, subscribed
Many thanks...cheers...
Yes, its much appreciated. :-)
I just found out that the channel's owner likes ending his comment with triple dots... :)))
Really can't get over how helpful your videos are. Will you be doing another live stream where you critique people's portfolios? would like to get involved with that
that would be fun...
The project presented at 2:35 is gorgeous.

Do you have a formula that could be used similar to the one he references?
6:50 Just go by lumens, watts juggling is kinda silly
Do you have a similar formula then? Lumens does seem like it would be easier... plus math is... well... terrible.
Thank you for the information
This video is packed with so much helpful information! So valuable, thank you!! I would buy a book of you analyzing/critiquing room's lighting no question. Thank you!
This is beautiful!
Thanks for the tip of using halogen in lieu of LED for an extra sparkle. It’s not a common tip you’ll find with a simple search.
Now I am getting addicted to your videos :D
thank you for shearing your knowledge with us
Thank You! Excellent intro to lighting ideas...
simple, but insightfull

+SHEF LV closest you can get with a bulb is a high CRI full spectrum bulb...hope that helps!
30X40 Design Workshop thank you so much! will buy one asap! :D
That’s a wonderful video. It would be even nicer if you could share the text of it. I’d like to read through and highlight the important parts :)
Wonderful !!! Thank you

I am a big fan of him. The most organised, full of care in presenting content and beautifully filmed architectural channel ever.
thank you for doing what you do
Great content !

Very professional opinion
Would've liked to know multiplier for lumen and not for wattage. It would give much more information, but great video :)

very good
It's rare that I hit Like on a video before watching it.
Me me same here :))
Do Nice ! !

5 THUMBS UP! THANKS
Dimmers DO NOT compensate for overdrawing a fixture..
Please expand your thoughts.
Oh where was this when I was renovating my house?!?!?!?!?! Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!

Cheers however, my architecture class watches
your videos and I can say it's some of the most interesting content we have "seen" in a long time.
What university/school do you attend...?
Actually I attend a high school in Texas and architecture is just a course available here.
