Once, in the 1980's, when I was a Block Operator (Tower Operator) for Metro North in Connecticut, on the New Haven Line, the Dispatcher could not cover the third trick at Tarrytown Tower, they asked me to go there ASAP, and they would cover my job at Central Tower in Bridgeport....I flew down the Interstate to the Tappan Zee Bridge, got off where they told me to, and met the Signal Maintainer who led me to the Tower.....The Operator, whom I relieved, gave me a quick course in the operation of t he interlocking and left me to figure out the rest, the Dispatcher helped me out, so it was not that big a deal...I got two days pay and expenses for it....
All the route along the Hudson prospect is striking and interesting...each port of call has something special to offer....all the way to Poughkeepsie....Up State New York...in the fall...can offer just the same extravaganza of colours as any in New England
Great to see some work being done to upgrade the tracks to modern high speed all welded rail on concrete ties. Best video I have seen! THANKS from Sydney, Down under.
Brings back memories. This was my train for 14 years (Dobbs Ferry). Service wasn't always perfect but it was heaven compared to Boston's MBTA commuter trains. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks , recently saw "The Girl on The Train" and became interested in this line. Seems like great suburbs to live and be able to get to NYC in half hour or so. That is Westchester County? Expensive?
Most of the time when I try to catch a front window storm door view on a MNRR M-3A or LIRR M-3, the Railroad Engineer sometimes leaves their cabin door open. I've ridden these cars before, but never had the chance to view the roadbed from the window. Good Catch, though!!!!! (Y)
North of The New " Mario Bridge " built by Nanny State Governor Andy, we'd have passed by the old Vanderbilt Mansion and the Franklin D. Roosevelt home Hyde Park, N Y. I once walked down to the tracks at that point and saw the trains passing by and the river views that are overgrown now from when the Vanderbilt's ran and owned the Railroad
I live in Rhode Island but have been listening to WCBS News Radio since I was 8 back in the 60's. Earlier this week I heard this week ( week beginning Monday, August 28,2017 ) The Tappen Zee Bridge was closing and a new bridge was to begin being used. I stopped this video at 14:43 and it is there that you can see the bridge supports in place for the new bridge as this train approaches the underpass. Cool! Nice video.
Is this the same tracks from the movie North by Northwest ? Of course it was the NYC railroad. The poles to the left holding the wires up seem familiar.
Oh BTW, will the Conductor or Assistant Conductor(s) won't have a problem with anybody recording out the window? Sometimes, they walk car through car to make sure everything is abreast.
Steam in the 60's up to Hawthorne then you had to transfer to the more Modern Electric Train before they made the Electric all the way a permanent thing.
I remember the Hudson Line when the NYCRR owned and operated it. I rode it many times on trips between Albany, NY and GCT/NYP. There were signal bridges all along the line. All of them appear to be gone. I think there are some dwarf signals at switches. I wonder if "block signaling" is now by induction either through the track or the 3rd rail.
MNRR is one of my all time favorite Commuter RRs. You can get almost anywhere on the railroad.
Damn!!! What a ride. Made periodic trips from Albany to NY. Great memories. Thanks a bunch.!!

Love that up front viewpoint. Noisy up there. Like all the springtime green. Thanks

Thanks for the ride ☺️
Awesome railfan view along the Hudson.
Railfan89 Thank you sir! Now to see if I can pile up some others on the RR if possible.
I lived in Hastings until 2003. A great town.

I LOVE front view videos! Haven't seen these in person since I was a kid in the 70's on the subways!

@@alexm5209 no it has high crime because it’s cheap, not the other way around (crime is due to a factor of things, not directly that)
13:50 - Nice video of the old Tappan Zee Bridge.
love the ride. thx. j.
You're welcome:)
Very enjoyable and informative video!

Wow. Didn't know you can actually do that (allowed) on the commuter trains. Outstanding recording!
thanks, rode this thousands of times as a commuter.. never got to sit up front ;)

Metro North was once called Penn Central Trains! They also went from Steam to Electric in 1989.

Did this train pass Washington Irving's house sunny side?
Thanks. Very nice video. I love this section of New York, along the Hudson River, going to and coming from New York City. Mmmmmmmm
Seemed to be really hauling after hastings ....how fast?
When I go to Tarrytown, Ny I go to the park, in Sleepyhollow, NY, and record from the old bridge
Nice video!
flying Irvington to Tarry town too speed??
Was it on the M7A
Oh BTW, will the Conductor or Assistant Conductor(s) won't have a problem with anybody recording out the window? Sometimes, they walk car through car to make sure everything is abreast.
what is the focal length of the camera you used
It goes all the Way to Grand Central Station and Albany the other way.
Nice video, cool ride!
This video shows the now gone Tappan Zee Bridge across the Hudson River that was replaced by Mario Bridge.
It will always be Tappan Zee Bridge to me.
Stop it on 1:34.
There's a poster.
There are not enough of these. This is excellent.
13:35 Amtrak?
hostile177 Amtrak Empire Service, yep and Thanks!
Cool ride! Why do they switch the East and Westbound tracks?
This used to be known as the Penn Central Line in the 60's.
any video onthe wassic line?
Yes. I have a few train action videos on the Harlem / Upper Harlem Wassaic Line, visit my UA-cam channel page and search and sub for more!
The Express!
Are you the Operator?
I see a lot of abandoned right-of-way to the left of you.
Do you mean the water.......?????
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Superb
Steam in the 60's up to Hawthorne then you had to transfer to the more Modern Electric Train before they made the Electric all the way a permanent thing.
Nice! Question; are there no signals or am I just missing them?
Theres signals. But they are on the ground, mainly near a junction. Probably missed them because of the train speed.
Thanks

I feel like I'm watching a British Train video.
Nicholette Casey that’s what i was about to comment 😭
What type of train was that?
The one I'm filming in is a Budd M-3A
I hope there will be a railfans window all the way to Pughipsee and perhaps to Albaney the Is one but the quality is rather poor thi8s was very nice

It's called a "Cab View" not a "Front Train Window View".
