Shhhh! Don't tell everyone! Jkjk. Olympus Monitors are a great secret if you are looking for a PVM. I have had a 142, and now own a 203 and love it. Thanks for another great video!
i know i have asked you before but i really hope eventually at some point you start doing this to consumer Trinitrons. I love my 27" trinitron and i really want to learn how to work on it
Hi I live in Australia and the bloke who I bought my BVM from used an all purpose concentrate cleaner to clean the PCB I think he mentioned the brand 'Simple Green' which is apparently made in the USA Anyway he used the multi purpose concentrate undiluted on the board, then scrub and then rinse under the tap but I guess care must be taken Otherwise you can try circuit board cleaner
One question, I got myself a Panasonic TC-1470Y. It has some problems : 1. When chassis touched it has 90% chances of the screen going black and restoring after around 10 secs. Screen recovers if I change from PAL to NTSC and then back to PAL to have color. (Bad solder joints??) 2. When there is a dark image, skin tones are green, and the overall image does have a greenish tint, and the Low Light Blue and L.L.Red pots don't work at all (Changing pots??) 3. The image randomly goes black with only some parts of some text on the screen but in a very dim red or blue (if it was white) and fading away. Resolved if tapping the case (Oxidized heater pins??) Can you pls give me some advice before changing the parts I think are bad according to the service manual values? (Should I change anything else or is my diagnose incorrect?) I have to mention that I calibrated the picture via blue only and smpte pattern and it is eye-meltingly guys up close, so tube isn't worn out (I think) Thanks in advance! :)
Do you do any final convergence tweaking after a recap like this. The final test screen looks like the colors are slightly separated in the upper right hand corner. I have the same monitor and notice similar convergence bleeding in the corners as well. Not sure if it is worth trying to tweak or leaving well enough alone.
How do I store my CRT properly? Do I have to consider certain things when I want to store my CRT, that I currently don't use (also over long periods)? Should I store it in the attic or rather in the basement and which effect has the temperature and huminity on a CRT?
Is the M20M2MDU identical to the 20L2M2MDU outside of the expansion slot for add-in cards? Got one on eBay recently that was mislabeled as the M2 and I've been loving it.
Surprisingly, I've been able to stock up on isopropyl alcohol recently. But I had to be vigilant at any and every store I when to. I assume Everclear works too.
Hello, I own a Sony PVM 20M2MDU- you said this monitor is identical to what I have. I got my monitor from my cousin who is a surgeon. It looks great, but the convergence on the bottom is bowing a bit. It needs a bit of adjusting- do you recommend a beginner try out what you showed in this video? Looks like a ton of work!
Hey Retro Tech, Your BVM/PVM Repair are really intresting. I started working on CRT TVs again but it was a long Time ago when i worked on them. Somy of my Sony Trinitron CRT TVs and Monitors have that issue that the Conversions and Geometry are off but the more anoying problem is that they all have Blooming (Screen size change when the Screen gets Darker or Brighter and a square looks like waves). It would be nice if you could give me a hint what the issue could be. I suspect that the Electrolytic Capacitors in the Hot Areas are causing that kinda issue but i'm not 100% sure. I would love to get them working like new again because the CRTs themself are still in very Good Condition and Strong. Thanks
Where did you find the cap kit? I've got one of these and the picture is great, but after about 20 mins the CRT starts squealing so I figure it's due for some work
Do you think, this monitor is the perfect for my first monitor ? or do you recommend other monitors, for example Sony Pvm 1944Q or Sony Pvm 14n5u ? Thank You great content!
Good afternoon, Steve! Please tell me, maybe I'm wrong, but if in the test "Grid", you remove the red border outside the display, then in some games part of the picture will also go away. An example of such a game is "Streets of rage" It's right? Maybe I'm too nitpicking, you need to relate to this easier. :) Have you noticed such a problem?
Grabbed one for $199.99 back in February Thanks to you and your videos! Excellent shape cosmetically and a great picture.

It's pretty obvious though.. they look identical to a sony PVM just with white sides lol.
I have this exact monitor. It’s amazing. Nice vid
same, I didn't even know it was such a sought out model

I concur...
Thanks for the video. I just picked one up.
I'd be interested in seeing your calibration steps on this monitor if you have video. (I have this same model) Thanks for the content.

Not only that, but his circles appear as ovals. He did not get perfect linearity, OR convergence.
Do you recommend the Olympus OEV 201 PVM model?
where did you get your list of the caps to replace? I have the exact same model.

I've gone over that before. Here is a link:

Is the Olympus OEV 191 a Sony CRT too? Do not see Trinitron on the bezel.

Hello,
Looking at a Sony BVM-1910 for around $300 local pickup. Monitor powers on. What do you think about this series of monitors?
I've never used that one, but it's a good price if it works well
Where did you find the cap kit? I've got one of these and the picture is great, but after about 20 mins the CRT starts squealing so I figure it's due for some work
Think he develops his own
@@Hambs Either that or an eBay seller called Savon Pat. He was an old Sony tech.
@@dominicrinaldi4738 He makes his own, i bought one from him. In the process of doing it now so i came back to check this video for some extra info.
Are you selling this one?

This is a perfect 1st monitor and better than the other 2 you mentioned. Get it if you still can! Thanks
@@RetroTechUSA Thank you for your recommended , I'll get it, greetings from Mexico!!!
Is this one for sale?
I don't trust myself with this kind of work. Im in Atlanta, how could I find someone that could recap a pvm?

yes streets or rage 2 has some rather "bad" placement of HUD elements, you can easily cut off your own life bar and character picture
I have one of these, I always refer to it as a 20m2 in forums because it's easier lol
is $400 for this monitor a good deal??
*Is there another massive scratch on this too?..* 😅
예전 기기들 다시 출시해주면 안되나..
throw that beast on Ebay PLEASE
I started doing the discharge the sony professional way. It is waaaay easier.
I just got one for 270€ pu, like new.
