I just purchased a downrod to add to my ceiling fan... watching your video really helped me. I was totally able to add the downrod.. Great job, Thanks...
Great job so far! You probably tied all the wires together in the ceiling box. Simply wire nut the constant hot wire (from the panel) to the hot wire going down to the switch, and when the switch is on it will send the hot back up to the light. Hope this helps.
thank you for the video it helped me learn a few more things about being an electrician. I'm going in to 9th grade and have been thinking about an electrician job for about a year now and i pretty confident that that's what i would like to do in the near future.
@iluveyeshadows It depends upon your comfort level. I would suggest turning off the breaker to the specific in the room wherein you are working. If that is unsafe, then turn off the main breaker panel.
Greetings Thailand! Thank you for your question. The "hook" should be installed in a junction box (in the ceiling), which is fixed to a stable support such as wood. The hook should not be the only support for the fan. The hook should not be fixed to a support such as wood by itself or without a junction box enclosing it. The absence of a junction box seems to be allowing the fan to function properly yet is still "shaky". The canopy should be snug up to the ceiling, and screwed to force is not typically needed to install a canopy. The canopy should help balance the hook if mounted properly to a junction box. (A junction box houses all wiring and has screw mounts which the ceiling fan canopy assembly will screw up into.) The fan seems to be shaking because it does not have a junction box in the ceiling for proper mounting of the hook-and-canopy assembly and distribution of motion. Please reply if I missed something or was perhaps unclear. Thanks
If your box protrudes below the ceiling, the home stores carry bracket boxes that are easy to install, which offer proper support and the height is adjustable.
The blue, black, and red wires have a certain function, typically fan and light. If you happen to interchange the wiring it should not produce any damage but it may change up the order of function at the light switches near the door. We typically like to have the light light-switch closest to the door as you walk into the room.
Dreahh, Typically fans come with one small rod, about 6 inches. If you prefer the ceiling fan to extend further from the ceiling, you may purchase a new hang-rod at your local supplier. Hope that helps
I live in Asia where the major fitting is not a 'ball' which drops into a holder. We still have a large strong steel hook (like an upside down ? mark) fitted to a wooden / steel / cement beam up in the ceiling cavity. Then the pole going up from the fan housing / motor is hooked onto the upside down steel question mark. Can you advise on this set-up, please. Two main questions 1). what to do if fan is balanced but shaky? 2). Does the 'canopy' have to pushed hard up onto the ceiling before its' tightened or is it better to leave just a small gap between the canopy and the actual ceiling? Thank you from Thailand.
...So are you saying the wall switch was wired incorrectly?....or that I need to connect the red wire in the ceiling box to the white (or black) wires in the ceiling lamp. Sorry, but I am really quite the beginner at this electrical stuff. Thanks for the reply.
Quick question, Our electrical box in the ceiling sticks out of the ceiling a little like yours did and I watched how it still looked lose. But we are doing a flush to ceiling. Will it fall?
I am installing a ceiling light and watched your UA-cam video....I tried this but I had four wires coming out of the ceiling electrical box. I ignored the red one and followed your instructions, connecting the whites together, and the blacks together, and the bare wires to the green ground screw. When done, I flipped the circuit breaker to "ON" and the light turned "on" ....but the wall switch did not turn it off.... What did I do wrong?
Whoever installed the original one wired it "incorrectly" per se. They "should've" wired the blue light wire to the red hot wire, and wired the black motor wire to the Black hot wire. It doesn't do anything different other than change which switch controls the light and fan, but it's just not the noted way to do it.
Always install the fan blade assembly AFTER the fan is hung! There is a good chance that hoisting it up with the blades and/or blade arms attached you will bend the arms. That will cause a wobbly fan that perhaps cannot be balanced. There is a good chance that they cannot be replaced and then you just trashed your fan! Trust me. I work at a fan store and we hear it all day!
If I have a black, white, ground and red in the ceiling. We could not figure out what the red one was for? My fan instructions of course said to put the ground/bare and green together , both whites together and the blue and black both into the black. Said nothing about the red so we just capped it. Can anyone tell me what its for and if we did it right. The fan/lights are working and fully functional to the switch in the room. There is another switch we have no idea what it controls. Wondering if we connected the red if the other switch would do something? This is a newer home that can prewired with no light fixtures.
+Amy Kariger The red would be for if you had two switches to the light. The black wires would connect to control the lights and the red would go to the switch that powers the fan.
I've been installing fans into a concrete ceiling, I have to make holes in the concrete than put dowels/ or like butterfly inseems, any info on that??m
Someone tell me where I'm going wrong. Ceiling has black, white, blue, and copper. Fan has blue, black white and green. I connected from fan to ceiling blue to blue/ white to white/ black to black/ and both green to copper and I've only got a slow spin and no lights. Can someone help me?
You should remove all posts you have ever made on the internet that you do no actively respond to. That seems logical. It should be expected after 7 years, that a link will not be actively monitored by the OP.
Adriana Noelle, haha it’s mucho better than assembling while your on a ladder juggling screws that invariably drop into the ceiling fan motor. Good luck :)
So sorry, my account has been jacked up lately, I apologize.•Black from ceiling box goes to Black in fan •Red from ceiling box goes to Blue in fan •White from ceiling box goes to White on fan •Green and copper together from ceiling to fan
I loved how your video not super long like others and was quick to the point while still explaining each step. Awesome job. Thank you.

I am NOT handy. but this is the best video I have seen on how to do a simple install awesome job thanks

That old fan looked beautiful
Gamer Alien They don’t make’em like they used to, that’s for sure

Good vid. The old fan looked nicer than the new one though.
Awesome.Short and covered all important points.
Thank you for your kind remarks.

Very good vid. Thank you. Good camera work, too.
You make it look so easy!

By "main system" do you mean the light switch?
i waould of loved fr you to show us how the wireing was done to a switch box...with light n fan operating separately.
maybe we can do a video of that in the future
I like ur way of assemblying of fan very nice

Answered my blue/red question! No other video did. Thanks!!
He answered mine to thank you so much
You explain things well. I think even I can do this now.. Thanks!
Your video saved my marriage haha thank you!!
Quick question, Our electrical box in the ceiling sticks out of the ceiling a little like yours did and I watched how it still looked lose. But we are doing a flush to ceiling. Will it fall?
The First and the most important rule: SHUT THE POWER OFF!!!!
So happy to help.

Ceiling fan now a floor fan
FuZzZy comment unclear
Does it matter if you mix up the blue and black wires with the red and black?
That's a nice new ceiling fan
That's easy
Your welcome, glad it was helpful
you never install the blades before you hang the fan it causes the fan to become unballanced
What if you do not have a light (kit)?
Cap the red wire with a wire nut and tuck the wire into the junction box.
Great! Glad we could help
The ceiling fan replaced to the old one is a Hampton Bay Springview.
Thanks for the help!!

What kind of fan is that?
Is That Fan Still There Today
Worked for me..thanks
Difficult to say w/o looking at it. Possibly use a hammer drill, masonry drill bit, masonry screws to mount box in concrete.

Glad we could help thanks
What if there is no light. What do I connect the red wire to then?
Hello this vid is really helpful and fast but I dont have all the wires are showing I have my black white and copper cable.
There wasn't a fan before.
.
Thanks for the tip.
It's safer to turn off the breaker when doing it. Someone could turn on the switch. Also, the hot wires are red and white. The neutral is black.
You can always put a piece of tape on, or over the switch to prevent electrocution.
Nice video
Help my ceiling fan makes a humming noise and blows out the light baulbs??
Glad to help
how do you install the main system
If I have a black, white, ground and red in the ceiling. We could not figure out what the red one was for? The red goes to the blue
+Amy Kariger The red would be for if you had two switches to the light. The black wires would connect to control the lights and the red would go to the switch that powers the fan.

Please install the cover to the celling fan
very well done:)
If you don't turn off the breaker, installing the fan could become a relatively unimportant problem.
Thank you

nice ceiling fan.
What if their are only 1 green
yeah I'm on my way to the hospital right now because I didn't shut the power off just hope my hair will go back to normal
I liked the old fan better
I know because of the arrow point shaped pull chain
IMPORTANT...You forgot to mention 'turn off the main power first '..
+legoplank gaming .. lol if it was live he would have shocked ..
Debate 2Blades and yfa
Only way he would of been shocked was if wires crossed. Just don't let opposite wires touch
He clearly said make sure the switch or the breaker is off.

I'd like to hear the answer to this as well. Our house is kinda old, and I'm afraid of this very thing - that the wire colors won't match up.
its so nice no one BOTHERS to help huh? they go to all the trouble of making a How To video, then leave ya hanging!
I mean, this was put up over 7 years ago... so can't really expect that much.
Then take it DOWN if its so OLD! Obviously people STILL WATCH IT..so you should still reply to peoples questions...
