A good gamble. I am a retired RVIA Master certified Mechanic, but would not have the courage to tackle such a challenge. I did 12 years as a full time RV Adventurer and worked for 14 different dealers all over the USA.I never did Chassis work, but was good with inside electrical and audio problems. It took a while to get comfortable with the large 40 foot coaches, When I did they were a dream to drive. My favorite dealers to work for were in PA! While working in Willow street, PA Dealership, I did so many plumbing repairs that they called me Crapper, John!

Hey Danny! I'm guessing that you just must have only looked at a few pictures of this and then commented.
First, they did show how much they paid for it. They paid $15.5k for it as is!
Second, that is an EXCELLENT price for this RV!!
Considering they could probably sell it for over $100K after they clean it up and fix anything that needs to be fixed, they got a great deal!!!
Edit: The only troubles they had getting it home was a serpentine belt and a new alternator. Even if they sold it at a ridiculously low price of only $50K, they would still be getting a good profit and the lucky buyer would be getting a steal of a deal!! This is just a win win situation for everybody involved!!!

That was a great deal for that Motorhome. The wiring problem is easy to fix by replacing the burnt-out Harness. The Harness is not too expensive but not cheap also.

Those Diesel pushers are a reliable drivetrain and RVs are a pleasure to drive long distances. The challenge is that fumes are toxic so you will have to pull everything apart and clean the backs of smoke affected panels. Running an ionizer will pull out some of the odor but ionizers will dull your soft finishes - seat covers, etc - so use sparingly. Cleaning and replacing is best. I used to run our motorhome at 70-75 mph easily - and insurance is very low because they are very safe. The slide-outs are amazing - those things are mobile homes with no compromises , that could have been a $1 million truck new. Usually you want to put down levelers before sliding out. Very good project ...

I had this exact RV and I lived in it full-time for five years. Some more information: List price was $170,000 you could get it as low as $135,000 new. The engine is a cat C7 330 hp. They also came with the Cummings diesel. I was told by a very senior mechanic at a Freightliner Service center that the cat was a better choice. You should’ve showed more pictures with the slides out. With the slides out in the front it was almost big enough to swing a cat. You got a steal.

It is a Freightliner chassis with a CAT 7.2 probably tuned at 350hp and around 860ftlbs. Allison 3000 series six speed transmission. Fleetwood made the coach and an expedition is one of the higher end models.
The "generator" batteries are actually called coach batteries as they power the coach. Nice score!! I would recommend keeping that one, it isn't often you get a coach that nice for that price on auction normally they go for more than that (even in auctions).

We just bought a used 2002 Daybreak motor home. Great low price on it. Not as fancy as your motor home, but the two words . . . . motor home makes it all good. I'm very happy with ours. Just learning to drive it will be a challenge to me. I'm not use to such a big vehicle. I'll always be the designated driver b/c my husband's shoulders give him way too much trouble and pain.

  • @AbominableJoshie
    @AbominableJoshie 4 роки тому +43

Great find! Definitely get engine oil from both the generator and drive engine send them out for analysis. That can tell you a LOT about the health of the engine. Major service costs vary wildly depending on the engine you have in the RV. Welcome to medium duty truck prices! The generator you got is excellent. Depending on the engine power output you guys may want to use this as a tow rig for getting project vehicles from far away. Everything that holds fluid should get checked at least and you can get the systems running as intended for almost nothing besides elbow grease. You should either collaborate with another UA-camr to show you the basics of RV system use or get a tutorial from a dealership. You can get it all on camera.
**edit** I see that it's a Cat C7. Those engines have some known issues that can be sorted out and you can get remanufactured engines pretty easily should you need to. Just be thankful you didn't get a Mercedes engine.

Hey guys, looks like you bought the RV right. With a little time and luck you will have all fixed and will enjoy it. The part where you were working on the burnt wiring under the dash was a familiar sight. We purchased a 2005 Fleetwood Providence in 2008. A real cream puff with only 9000 miles on it. The salesman went on and on about the wonderful dash air made by Denso. (bet you have one too!) Our first outing was to Branson, which is about 90 miles each way. It was almost 100 degrees and very humid. When I pulled into the storage to put it away, I had an electrical fire similar to the one in yours. Many of the electrical components were attached to the floor, and shorted out from the water. It cost about $4,000 to fix everything. The cause was condensation from the uninsulated heat/AC ducts. Do not exactly know what caused your fire, but I heartily recommend that you look for insulated ductwork, and mount as little on the floor as you can.

The fridge runs off AC(Generator or Shore Power) or 12V(Batteries) with propane.
You have two electrical systems, 12V DC and 120V AC.
12V comes from the batteries or the converter(120V to 12V).
120V AC comes from Shore Power (50A) or the generator. You can hook up to 120V 30A or 15A if you use an adapter(dog bone). If you are going to install a 50A plug at your shop or home, look at the correct wiring. It is two 50A legs.
12V runs the control board for Fridge, lights, water pump, and fans.
120V runs the microwave, AC, 120V plugs, washer, water heater, and the fridge when not on propane.
Propane runs your stove, oven, furnace, and water heater,
Generators like to be run. Change the oil and start it up. If it starts up, after 2 to 4 min. put a good size load on it. Use the AC or if it cool, plug in a space heater or two. Running under load helps burn off any corrosion on the coils.
Turn off you propane when you are driving down the road. Run the fridge off your generator. If your propane is not off while driving and you have either a leak or are in an accident, it will ruin your day.
If it does not have a built in surge suppressor, get one before you hook up to shore power.
If you hook up to city water, you want to connect through a pressure regulator.
Since you seem to know nothing about RV's it may be a good idea to hire an RV inspector to tell you everything that is wrong with the RV. There will be things wrong with it. Water leaks are especially bad.
    You have 3 water tanks.
    1) Fresh water tank. Sanitize it before you first use it.
    2) Black water tank for the toilet. Never let go dry. Always keep at least 5 gallons of water in it. Only dump it when it is 3/4 full or more. Use the tank flush. Use RV Toilet paper or toilet paper that breaks down fast. Not Charmin. We use Angle Soft.
    3) Grey water tank is for the sinks, shower, and washer.
Learn what a navy shower is. Showers fill up the grey tank fast.
Some UA-cam channels you may want to look at.
    Love your RV
    RV Geeks
    RV with Tito.
Always have a braking system when pulling a Toad (Tow Car). Brakes are your friend.

@@NikoBrothers I noticed the house batteries (the 4 in front) that should have been being charged by the alternator were still disconnected. That is why you had no power in the body. Those are what provides power most of the time when you aren't connected to shore power or running the genset. They may be switched off on the DC power side too.
That is why there are 4 of them. Modern rigs also add Solar and/or replace with Lithium batteries, but nothing wrong with good old fashioned wet cells.

My grandparents own a 2008 Freightliner Fleetwood Bounder RV, probably with the same engine as yours, they were ripped off by a mechanic shop for the fan belt replacement. Took them 2 weeks and much money
P.S. The extra batteries are house batteries, you can do things like run a propane furnace or the water pump off of it without running the generator, engine or using electrical hookups. They can also act as auxiliary engine batteries if you flip the battery switch on the dash to AUX.

With the resources that you have available, as a "keeper" I think you got a great deal. Salvage title can cause some grief on the resale end but you've covered the lack of severity from the fire up front, and I'd say anyone not needing a personal loan to buy it may pony up the cash, upwards of 20k, possibly mid 20s, imho.
I've been a bargain hunter for years and have owned RV's and TT's.
I'd have bought this for 13k for the drivetrain and parts alone, but my HOA would have my figs in a vice within 3 days! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have an 06 Fleetwood Expedition ... you got tremendously lucky with your find. I have had random electrical issues without fire damage! You guys have a ton of work ahead of you to really get into that dash and replace anything that has been damaged.
These things have THREE separate electrical systems, The Truck Chassis, the RV 12V house system and the 120V AC house system. Multiple fuse panels and literally miles of wiring.

Hah hah 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 (Interesting video, though...I would never be able to take on a project like this. I'm the opposite of being a "Mr. Fixit". I'm more like, try to fix it, bang my hand and knuckles up all bleeding and bruised, get ticked off, through a tool on the ground, and say enough! I'm going to pay for a mechanic to do it!. You got lucky with that Copart facility. I bought 2 RV's from Copart in Michigan at Ionia facility and management there will not even let me use a jump box to start them to drive off the lot much less install a driveshaft. I had to pay a tow company to come pull them off the lot and then I worked on them and drove them home. And I've been buying there for over 25 years.

Fleetwood are scabbed together from the factory. There is no excuse for that rubbed through wire in the dash other than they hire the cheapest labor to build them.I know as I have worked on hundreds of them when they are new! Expedition is one of their highest quality and still they have inexcusable errors in manufacturing. The alternator is normal lack of maintenance. I would sell it quickly.
