🇳🇴Chasing Lights in Tromsø, Norway

- Thomas Hunger is an average German fellow but with a touch of quirkiness-his obsession with the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). He beams with childish enthusiasm and his eyes light up with wonder every time he talks about this natural phenomenon.
But Thomas is not a visitor seeing it for the first time nor is he just a regular tour guide-Thomas “chases” Aurora like a stormchaser would chase tornados. He is in the business of selling the experience of seeing the Northern Lights even though he can never guarantee his guests that he and his team will succeed in "catching" one. Still, his trips are filled with excitement and frenzy as he constantly consults weather apps to find it, communicates with his team on possible sightings, and crosses open borders into Sweden and Finland with his head fixed skywards, waiting for Aurora to poke out from behind the clouds at night.
When the van they travel in stops his enthusiastic guests get off and plant a thicket of tripods in the snow-cameras pointed up and ISOs boosted high to vividly capture the magical and undulating green waves in the sky.
Thomas runs one of the most successful companies in Tromsø, Norway incidentally called, Chasing Lights. Guests from as far as Malaysia, China, and India make the journey just to be mesmerized by this wash of green that fills the skies of Arctic nights. It’s an experience to cross off the bucket list, his guests often say.

I absolutly have to see it at least once in my life 🥺 i think i would melt in tears of joy under such a beautiful sky
The sad part is that there always advertised as just crazy long but in reality in most parts it last a few seconds and it's over
@@serenitygrant8127 even those few seconds are goin to be worth for me🥺
ME TOO!! I feel exactly the way you do!! It's THE MOST BEAUTIFUL thing I have ever seen......on UA-cam!! I haven't been anywhere to actually see it.
@@serenitygrant8127 ive had them last for over 2 hours. I had them just today they lasted at least over 5mins but there gon now

It's my bucket list goal as well, I'm hoping to go to Tromso in January or February 2020.

Facts
3 years back on exactly this day we were in Tromsø. We travelled from Mumbai, India to Tromsø for our honeymoon and words can't even begin to describe how beautiful it is. The first time we went "chasing" the norther lights we got to see just a faint green light in the sky and honestly, I was a bit discouraged. But we decided to go again and I'm glad we did because what we saw that day was nothing short of magical. It was pitch dark where we went, couldn't even see the snow below our feet. We sat inside a lavvu which kept us warm and periodically checked outside but it was still dark. After a couple of minutes we went out once again and we started seeing a faint light in the sky, everyone rushed out and then in a matter of seconds the sky lit up. We could see the snow below us, the river (or some water body) next to us and everything was just amazing. Just when you think it couldn't get any better, the lights started "dancing". The colours changed and it covered pretty much the entire sky :'). I sincerely hope everyone manages to go and experience it because it was an absolute privilege to just stand there and look up! :)
I would love to go to Tromsø for my honeymoon but my future husband seems set on Hawaii or somewhere tropical. Hopefully I can talk him into at least taking a ski trip close by so we can go chase the lights! I’ve always wanted to see the lights and I want to share my dream with him. I feel like him being with me for the moment I’ve been waiting for all these years will make it even better! Also I’m glad you got to see the lights and God bless you :)!!
@@ashlyndallas2024Yeah, it's better to witness it with the one you love :) I really hope you get to see it with him! :D btw, the second tour that I had gone on was with Tromso friluftsenter. The reason I'm mentioning it cause they were really really sweet and accomodating and Knut (our tour guide) was an absolute delight. They obviously don't remember me but I thought of sharing it with you since you're keen on going there and I know that when I go back there I'll be going with them only again :)
How long did the northern Lights lasted in sky?
@@vanshshah6503 It can be minutes or it can be hours.
Awesome testimony- thank you and greetings from NYC! 🤗🌷😄
My hometown! Even my parents are still amazed watching The northern lights every single winter every year. Imagine this in Christmas time! Its amazing.
Can you speak Norwegian
I’m just wondering because you said it was your home town and i’m from Tromsø too
@@sainttr00msoo Selvfølgelig, fra Tromsdalen. Enn du da?

Dude let me come visit yall! I want to see this so bad
@@elpapuu07 See you in Tromsø!.
I remember when I was little my grandfather took me skiing on a lake in the mountains in the evening. After a little while we arrived at one of the little islands in the middle of the lake. We sat there ,drinking hot chocolate and then suddenly ,I looked up and the sky was illuminated by the northern lights .
I felt chills down my spine and I don't think I will ever feel these kind of chills ever again (unless I get to see them again). I will always remember this experience and I hope one day to see them again
Oh lucky !
You got chills because you were so startled by such a massive event in the sky. I felt that when I saw a full blood red moon once. It scared me so much because I wasn't expecting to see that as I rounded a corner on my midnight walk, lol. I got major chills XD I thought I was witnessing an explosion way in the distance. So glad I got my bearings and realized it was the moon!

Im 16 at the moment, and starting today I will start saving money so when Im old enough I can emigrate to Norway.
As soon as the ban against Americans going to Europe is lifted after Corona, I'm off. It doesn't take that much to make it there. The tough part would be making a life once you got there.
I had a dream about it and since then I've been trying as hard as possible. Good luck, my dream is coming true no matter what
Go for it.
Me too
These northern lights also appears in Canada.
i´m from Germany and i did my military time in 1996 and at that time we had the battle griffin NATO maneuver in Norway and we where stationed near Bodø and went later to a trip to Tromsø and the northern lights i witnessed there was the most beautiful thing i ever witnessed...when you lay down in the night in the trench while on guard duty and watch this phenomena happen its so amazing i will never forget that :-)

Loool is that "Come to Daddy" profile pic 🤣
5:03 This section was my favorite, filming the reactions of people all over the world to this wonder of nature. I heard several different languages being spoken as well.

That music is doing justice as well

Norway a country of peace & beauty ...love from India...one day intent to travel to Norway and see Northern Lights directly...
I bet I would cry if I see those lights in person... they look stunning and breathtaking, like they make you think this world is enormous and we worry about stupid things when there’s such things like this
I've never been fortunate enough to see these lights in person from southern USA. Only in videos. I had no idea how beautiful this was and it moves!! It's like being on some other planet! So beautiful!!!
Travel to the Northern US states and spend some time there if you would like to see aurora borealis; like Michigan, Minnesota etc. Of course the farther North you go the more likely you will see them, so Canada or Alaska is good also! The main thing is, find a way you can spend some time, because there is no guarantee what day or night they will show up. For example, if someone can work from home and wishes to see northern lights, they might wish to live in one of the northernmost US states or Canadian provinces. Or perhaps you might wish to attend university in one of these places, or try finding a job in the north for a few years. You should be able to see the northern lights very many times if you are able to spend awhile living there.
This earth is truly amazing. The vast differences in nature and ways of life is pretty cool. If only I had the ability to live a little bit of all of it. Norway is on my list for sure!
One of the most beautiful view combined with such a peaceful music. ❤
Watching northern lights is in my bucket list.
From India ❤
Truly wonderful! Thank you for sharing this video to those who won't have the privilege to experience this.
I have been in Hansnes, which is more or less close to Tromsø! I finally saw the northetn lights and that was by far the best experience of my life! There are no words to describe all that! When you hear the sound of the nature and see those lights! No words! I'll be back, thats for sure! Norway, you are amazing❤️🇳🇴
That sight made me cry like a child.. it's overwhelming.. it's overwhelming to realize how small we are in this universe, how tender is our arrogance in front of the the light it holds... And how dare are we to act like the masters, to exploit the nature, the sea, the sky , the soil... Ahh God this made a so humbled..😭😭🌌🌌❤️
Lots of love to Norway.... 🇧🇩 from Bangladesh
After such a mesmerizing sight with soothing hues how one can remain conscious...."Do I awake or asleep"....one must not articulate any words...words are too little to paint such celestial gift....!!!
The comments here made me feel extremely thankful of living in this city. I have lived here all my life and can recognize almost all of the places in this video, i even biked over the bridge at 0:48 today.
Hii
You're so lucky
For someone who lives in this city, and has been to many of the places that were shown, and driven on all of these roads shown in the video i find it so interesting that so many people are fascinated by my country/city when i take it all for granted. I need to start appreciating Tromso/Norway more.
Wow 🔥 I have this one on the top of my wish list ...
It's beautiful and really magical ..❤️
I am in love with natural beauty😍🥰...
# craziness towards nature ❤️

Herzlichen Dank für das tolle Video ... Wundrschöön ! Alles Gute zu euch !
I almost feel bad for telling you that when i lived on Senja, this was my "going home light" for a year. Its not always green. It is quite often pink/purple as well. But one thing i can tell you. It is ALWAYS beautiful.

Your crying because God is so amazing that he left a little bit of Eden (paradise) on earth even though we were too foolish to realize that our faith is sufficient enough for all things through Christ. YESHUA HAMASCHIACH
I lived in Tromso for 7 years and I really miss the place💔
Very Beautiful!!
Thank YOU MUCH for a Wonderful video. From Cape Town.
Runs through end of september till april, northern europe specially in lapland , north sweden and finland you get to see this beauty, there is some kind of saudade , pensive nostalgic melancholy ,which is happiness and sadness at the same time, there is something to it that cant be explained, its enjoying nature while listening to pink floyd classics , northern europe is beautiful specially when you get to see this extravagant showcase mothernature has to offer.. it is something beautiful cannot express it in words.
Thanks a lot for sharing this video. Hope to see those lights once in my life.

It's truly magical to see the northern lights in real life. I was in Tromso 2 weeks ago and even took a trip with the Chasing Lights company. It was amazing, they're really professional. I will never forget it, sitting around the campfire with the aurora dancing above us.
