    Man I wish they would completely overhaul the building system in this game to something more modern. If this game had the same or similar building design as Valhiem, I could only imagine the types of builds you could create. We should have already had the ability to build at 15, 30 and 45 degree angles and better usage of half pieces across the board.

    • @wancha5050
      @wancha5050 4 місяці тому +1

      man i agree with you. half pieces and only 45 degree ramps sux big time, also missing the option to paint walls or decorate them with nice pieces (talking mostly about concrete build)

    Cool, thanks! Another trick for perfectly parallel alignment, if your mouse has a DPI toggle button, switch to the lowest setting, and align the bottom of your screen to any straight line in your build (wooden floor seams work best for me). Use a torch to see the seams better. Once aligned, use WASD to navigate, don't touch the mouse.

I've never actually pre-designed any of my builds in any game. I just add till I'm happy. For this one I knew I wanted the look of a traditional Alpine cabin but that was it. I was struggling to figure out how to merge building pieces to get more complex shapes and kept running into the snapping issues, but I never tried messing around with the frame and beam pieces to create the overlaps that I could build off of. 100% agree, the concrete frame and interior wood beam are the best for lining up and making micro adjustments. @mithryanna Рік тому

      Hmmm I know your comment is from a year ago now, and the game is constantly changing. I'm pretty sure all of the tips in the video still work now. If anything, it's easier. I'm not sure if they added the HOME key for unsnapping or if it's always been there, hidden. It's definitely easier than the END unsnapping he does in this video, because with END it seems to be a temporary unsnap, until you get close to another building piece, then it snaps again. They call it reset focus or something like that and the key is displayed in the UI as you're building. I don't really understand what it does exactly, just that I was using END like crazy after this video for unsnapping from grid, until I came across someone use HOME and realized that is the real "unsnap" functionality I was looking for. If you look in the game's keybinds, it's there, even though it doesn't show up in the UI alongside END while building. I use HOME to do all the same things he does in this video, I just have to worry a lot less about things snapping if I get too close to another building piece. And if it ever does snap, I just hit HOME and wait for it to reappear; after that I can resume adjusting and it generally doesn't resnap again.

    I do have a question though - How do you apply the perfect beam alignment trick to the same construction build at square angles to it? Because where you are applying the depth to the window frames, you are stepping out from the reference post. As you meet a square angle part of the build, because you are out from it, it won't match the square angle part of the build.

    I know this is most ideally for outposts and long explorations, but I've got a practical question. Does the double layered roof catch fire from lightning strikes or does the concrete/stone first layer tank it all? I'd love to try to implement this and get speedy at making use of the interior wood stuff for this kind of thing, but if it's simply aesthetic, I'll still do it, just not for the shorter missions. If the top layer does tank wind and lightning, then I'll be practicing to get that down to a science.

      Beams (and railings, doors, etc) seem to be "special" and don't take weather damage, at least in my experience. So you can use whatever beams you like the look of on your exterior. I use things like interior wood beams and aluminum beams outside all the time. They can still take damage from beasts and other things, so keep that in mind.
      Material does make a difference for support, so be careful if you are using them to reinforce something that would otherwise crumble.

    • @GhostBuilds
      @GhostBuilds  2 роки тому +1

      Hard to explain in words but, You can't do it if you're snapping off a structure. The best way I can explain it is, the walls are considered a seperate structure that the roof. I build a seperate frame that isn't snapped to the foundation to support the roof. That way you don't get collision. Any pieces that are snapped together are considered one piece and will cause collision but if you start them off say a pillar that isn't snapped to the house it will mesh through anything.

      You have a tiny white dot in the middle of your screen. Move that to what you want to remove and hit Y. You will destroy anything you want doing that and plus you get most if not all mats back doing that.

    OK this all looks fascinating and I love it just curious if I am playing in open world can you use those wooden beams and stuff outside..? the aluminum or will they take damage and have to be repaired often?

    • @mithryanna
      @mithryanna Рік тому +1
