I like Bore Tech products. I just ordered their chamber cleaning kit. You can tell them thank you, your video helped me make my decision on what to use. Thanks John.
Thanks John... proof that older videos keep on helping. The Bore Tech kit is now $79 (incl shipping). I ordered the Dewey rod ($17) and BT wiper ($24 incl ship) and saved almost half the cost. The longer BT rod was not worth +$38 bucks. I have a hobby lathe so I'm going to make a "lug end" like in the Pro Shot kit and try some of those patch-rolls too. Thanks again... always useful stuff for folks starting out.
I've got all Dewey stuff, and got it before Boretech was a thing. Bought my dad all Boretech, and the rubber wiper is a good design. I still like my Dewey set as well. I may purchase a Boretech wiper for my Dewey set.
I just received that bore tech kit yesterday so this was very timely. Bore Tech also just created a kit for rimfire. And you can get different wiper tips for a 3 lug and a universal that you could even cut down if you wanted. They also create the rod collars specific for different actions so they emailed me to see what rifle I had when I ordered a different wiper for my Tikka. Customer service was great!
I use something like the pro shot and use dental packing to clean my lug area, and some industrial swabs for the chamber, and a brush with 2 inch patch for chamber cleaning, Great Vid John
I've been using the Dewey kit for a few years and really like it. If you put the felt piece in the end and tighten down the set screw, you will never need to remove it. It is stiff enough that you can scrub the action rails, breech face, and action lugs pretty easy. Then just spray it with some carb cleaner to clean it off. I also like the fact that you can remove that piece and add on a chamber mop or brush to scrub out the chamber easily.
I have the Dewey Chamber rod and like the quality, but wish is was longer, like your Bore Tech. Thanks for sharing this John. Well if nothing else, I think your lug area is well lubricated.
I'm sure you meant 8x32 vs 8/32(=1/4) . I know it's just a way to pronounce it but 8x32 is really how it should be said. But, this is a great demo of how things work at price point. Excellent descriptions of how things work.
Aluminum pistol rod. Attach chamber brush, etc. I like a large patch loop for large patches(pieces of old t-shirt) to swab action and chamber. Mops are nice but are too expensive.
You should look into the Tipton action/chamber gun cleaning tool kit. They sale them on Amazon. It’s like the pro shot but the rods are plastic and they work great. The swabs they use are super cheap. But you could roll up patches and use them also.
Dewey must have changed the ends on the rods. The Dewey kit I got about 15 years ago has a cross drilled aluminum end that looks like the Bore Tech. It even came with a bunch of the cotton cylinders like the Bore Tech. Change doesn’t always mean better for the end user. Thanks for the review.
Hi John, can you fit the plastic "chamber guide" onto the flexible proshot, that will keep the angle problem a fair bit at bay, BTW, another good clip 👍
Yeah that's not a bad idea but you'd either have to buy one or make one and I was trying my best to compare based on what they actually came with. But I'm totally going to try it tomorrow. 🤗
I have been using Tipton carbon Fibre rods.....and I'm kinda disappointed as it developed a bend and I can feel the rod touch my barrel....I know it's supposed to be ok but I still don't like it touching lol
@@davidandre886 Nope. I clean my carbon ring by soaking a patch with carbon remover for a little bit, then scrub with the brush and then remove with the patch on a brush.
Perfect thanks. Would be cool if someone made something designed for it.. I have see. Some for cleaning gas gun chambers specifically but I wouldn’t want to put it in my bolt gun 😬
I like them. I don't really care about getting my hands dirty but I'm often doing several things at once so I'll take the gloves off, go do the other thing then put them back on. Stuff like cleaning a gun and sizing brass. I don't want cleaning solution on my brass. Stuff like that.
You kinda missed one. I have a proshot like the first one but its not flexible, it is stainless. I was really disappointed with the only dewey rod i have bought. I stick with ProShot

That’s great to hear and I’m glad it helped.

The only part that sucks about buying the wiper is they charge a silly amount of shipping for it.

That's great to hear. I knew about the wipers but not the rimfire kit or other collars.

Thank you.
Real Avid rod does seem short, but the first 1 1/2" of the handle appears to insert into the back of an AR receiver to center the tool?
Yes exactly.
It says Ar15 on the package, lol. It’s designed specifically for ar15 star chamber

Excellent. Thanx. Having a carbon donut problem and this helped.
I just recently got the Bore Tech after seeing it in one of your other videos. Haven’t used it yet but I can’t wait to try it.
I hope you love it like I love mine.

Thank you and yeah, I need to clean that out a bit now 😂
Thanks for the video. They are good tools for cleaning. Various guns.
Thank you
Very informative. Thanks for making this!

I have the pro shop with the red aluminum handle and it’s rigid. I didn’t know they had a flexible one.
Excellent video. Thanks

Hello, thanks for the video, what size patch do you use for the Bore Tech tip ?
I use these amzn.to/3VhvzYI
Where did you get the vinyl? stock protector you use over the comb.?
really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Job..Thank you.
You have to use the right tools John, horses for courses
The tee handle will work, but you need to chop down the wings

It’s funny you say that. I already ordered that one plus another pro shot one to test. Thank you.
Thanks that makes sense

That's interesting. I haven't seen the old style but it sounds like it might be easier to use (or at least tool free) compared to the current one.
you can get the packing swabs on ebay for 15.00 for 10.000 I have 20.000 but that was like 9 yrs ago 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That's great to know. I'll look into it.
Great video John thanks I would like to try the flex rod with the dewy lug insert at the range because most of my rifles have adjustable cheek pieces.
Yeah the flexible would be great for that kind of situation.

Oh Man John!
You almost drop your nice stock in the “vise” video, then your rifle almost drops out of the vise in this video.
All for us
Thanks
Yeah it happens. At least nothing got broke. 🤪
What size of rod do I need for my 6.5x55?
i just use my tipton 22+ caliber rod for cleaning my swedish mauser techincally 6.5 shoots .264 bullets and lands are like .256
I have been using Tipton carbon Fibre rods.....and I'm kinda disappointed as it developed a bend and I can feel the rod touch my barrel....I know it's supposed to be ok but I still don't like it touching lol
Is the bore tech your favorite for cleaning the carbon ring?
I like it, or the Pro Shot. If I'm at the home the Boretech will be the go-to.
Thanks for quick reply. Other than a patch wrapped around a brush is there another tool you like to use?

Just wondering, why do you have gloves on most of the time? Thanks

Good video. The trijicon looking good. Are you still happy with it?
So far, yeah.
I like your observation, basically., Having to break out a tool kit , to use your tool kit. not a good idea.
You kinda missed one. I have a proshot like the first one but its not flexible, it is stainless. I was really disappointed with the only dewey rod i have bought. I stick with ProShot
Flexible rod looks perfect for cleaning a semi auto chamber with no rear access….
That’s a great point.
👍👍
2000 dental swabs cost me 8$ from my dentist. Get ahold of me and I will send u a few hundred to play with
Could you please be a little bit more Biased. I like the $12. and $16. kits the best.
